Updates on the Traditions Kakishibu T7 and T8

by Sonia G.

The Traditions Kakishibu brushes are restocking very soon, and there will be a small change to two of the brushes, the T7 and the T8. Today, I wanted to share all the details about these two brushes, so you know exactly what to expect before they return.

These are the Traditions brushes that will be restocking, and they will be available for pre-order on the 16th of June at 10am PT:

From top to bottom: TF4 – T1 – T6 – T7 – T8 – T9

The Traditions T7 and the T8 are coming back with a small change, if you were interested in these two brushes, please keep in mind that they won’t be exaclty the same brushes as before. I will explain what changes and why and if you have any other questions about them, please do not hesitate to reach out to me in the comment section below!

The new T8 and T7

THE TRADITIONS T7

The previous T7

The Traditions T7 was first released in August 2025, it’s a multipurpose brush with a pinched ferrule and we can use it for several tasks, for example for laydown, target blending or crease work. It is a fantastic brush, however, as time passed and batches of bristles changed, it had an impact on the brush shape for this restock.

The previous T7

Sometimes we can adapt and change the tools or technique to maintain the same functionality, but sometimes it can be more tricky. The structure of the bristles made it difficult to have it resemble the very first prototype that we had made and as a result, it was getting too close to the T2.

It didn’t make sense to end up with two brushes that are so similar in function, so we decided to redesign, or slightly change, both the T2 and the T7. The T2 will come back at a later date.

We had to do something about this T7 already for this restock, and we thought that it would be amazing to take this opportunity and convert this brush into a brush shape that you often requested: the Summer Koi Smooth Blender.

The Summer Koi Smooth Blender becomes the new T7
The Smooth Blender (Summer Koi) – Compact Crease (Mini Essentials) – T7 (Traditions)

We had so many requests to add the previous Summer Koi Smooth Blender brush in the permanent Traditions collection. And, in parallel, there was also a huge interest for the Mini Essentials Compact Crease to also be available with a standard length handle (the Mini Essentials come with a short handle).
Since these two brushes have a very similar brush shape, adapting the T7 to match this shape was the best option we had: it would give us the functionality of the Summer Koi and the Compact Crease brushes, and since it’s for the Traditions series, it would come with the standard handle length.

The Summer Koi and the Compact Crease are amongst the most challenging brush shapes to create. I won’t go into the technical details as we feel it’s important to protect and preserve the artisans’ know-how. Unfortunately, copies are a real problem we face nowadays, so I’d like to gently remind you that our brushes are available exclusively through Beautylish.

The previous T7 versus the new T7
The previous T7 – The new T7 (front)
The previous T7 – The new T7 (side)

The bristles of the previous and the new T7 are the same length, the ferrule is the same diameter, but now the ferrule is round. The new T7 brush is dense, but the bristles aren’t too tightly packed together so it’s easy to work with darker shades without having the shadow too heavily stamped versus a denser/firmer brush. It is such a beautiful brush for precision blending or for boosting the intensity in the crease area, or for blending the transition area.

It’s like a mini buffer, we can polish or blend within a very small area. If you just need to fix the edges of a placement, or smooth a perimeter, this brush is so amazing because it has sufficient strength, but it won’t obliterate the colour.

The T7 versus the T3
T7 – T3

The T7 will remind you of the T3, they look a little similar but they are different brushes.

The T7 is going to be stronger right at the surface, which means you have more control on the area you want to target and you can more efficiently work within a smaller perimeter.

The T3 has longer bristles, more movement, the working area is all around the brush, while on the T7 it is concentrated right at the surface.

The T7 is more like a crease brush, while the T7 is more like a smoother, a blender. That said, I often use the T7 as a crease brush because the formulas that I love to use are quite difficult to work with, and this brush makes the application much faster.

THE TRADITIONS T8

The previous T8 – The new T8

There isn’t a big change in this brush, the bristles are the same length and the ferrule is the same. However, the new T8 tappers more, it’s firmer and more directional, it offers a little more control and precision with the placement and with the blending.

The T8 versus the Soft Blender (Mini Essentials)

The T8 – The Soft Blender (Mini Essentials)

These are natural bristles and with natural bristles comes the challenge of ensuring that every batch is effective and is as consistent as possible.
For this brush, we wanted to get as close as possible to the Soft Blender of the Mini Essentials, so if you have the Soft Blender already, these two will offer the same functionality.

The Mini Essentials Soft Blender comes with the mini handle, there is a dedicated post on these mini handles available here should you be interested in reading more about them!

What I absolutely adore about these two brushes is the super soft point surrounded by the many layers of bristles, they give this brush volume and blending power. Whether you use it in the crease or on a flatter area, the bristles flex and adapt with similar strength across the surface.

The T8 versus the T3
The T8 – The T3

I wanted to show you the T3 again, this time against the T8.
The T8 is a bigger brush, the bigger layers will cover more surface when working.

Thank you for the update, Sonia! I have and love the Compact Crease. It makes it so easy to apply transition shades while travelling, and in fact, I use it at home as well because I like it so much. To have something similar in a longer handle is very tempting! But then, I still want to make sure my Compact Crease gets to work… !

I am so tempted by TF4. Do you think it’s a good choice for more pigmented blushes, or would it better to wait for another brush? I’m using my Set and Sculpt like crazy, btw. It’s quickly become my favourite for a targeted application of pigmented blushes where I really need to control the intensity.

Hi Diana,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the Compact Crease. It’s always with me wherever I go, it’s amazing that you also love it so much when travelling and just like you, I also use it at home constantly. I really don’t mind the shorter handle as it helps me when getting closer to the mirror.

Thank you also for your interest in the TF4, this brush is really special but it packs a punch! It’s very dense and it allows a lot of control with the placement, it’s also very small but you can use it for blush (if you love the Set & Sculpt, then you will love the size of the TF4), it splays out beautifully so you would use the top surface rather than the sides. The TF4 is the “more muscles” sister of the Set & Sculpt. I was saying that the TF4 is special so I will briefly tell you why: because of its smaller size but determination with the placement, it makes the experience feel very artistic, I feel like a painter who places accents on a canvas. It allows you to also work by layers (maybe you want to start with a more neutral blush underneath and below, and a brighter blush on the higher part of the blush placement, or play with the finishes and add a pop of shine on the top layer), I hope you see what I mean.
The TF4 is my very top favorite brush for that particular reason, it’s really such a lovely tool to have and to use regularly for someone who loves to play with make-up. I don’t know if this helps but if you have a particular question, please let me know, I love to talk about the TF4 since I love it so so much! <3

Dear Sonia, it helps very much! Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and helpful comment.

I absolutely see what you mean. The way you have described it is my favourite way to apply blush. I love it when makeup application feels elevated into something artistic, and I also love to layer blushes and play with colour and finish. I also love emphasising the cheekbones with blush and TF4 looks like the perfect shape for that.

If TF4 is your favourite brush then that is a high recommendation! I think I will order it in the restock. That way, I can have Set and Sculpt for my highly pigmented blushes, and TF4 for the ones with more intermediate or light pigmentation.

Thank you again for your comment! Oh, and I also have ALP3 coming my way. I’m sad that I missed ALP4, but I think between TF4, ALP3, and Mini Set and Sculpt that I will have a great little set of my own to play with <3

Hi Sonia,

I’m interested in buying the new T7 that is the same shape as the summer koi; however, the product photos on Beautylish do not reflect the change you’re described here. Did Beautylish not update the product photos with new ones? Or is it the old product that is availble…

Thank you!

Hmm I think my comment never posted so I will re-post my question.

I’m very excited about the update to the shape of the T8 and would like to purchase it on Beautylish but i wanted to confirm that it is what is being shown on your blog here. The photos that are currently live on the beautylish website do NOT look like the new shapre you’re showing here… have they just not updated the photos?

I want to make sure I’m buying the one I want.

Thank you!

Hi Sonia, I want to ask if the T2 brush is redesign too or only brushes T7 and T8 were redesign? T2 is the same like the previous year? Thank you

Hi Timea,
thank you for your questions! The current T2 brush in stock is the previous brush, so if you wanted the one with the previous design and it’s still showing as available, you can still grab it. The next version will only come at the end of 2026. Thank you so so much!!
