We began this Sonia G journey in 2017, and what an incredible experience it has been. Over the years, we’ve continued to evolve alongside talented artisans, incorporating new materials and techniques. Behind the scenes, there’s a great deal of research dedicated to creating tools that are truly special. And yet, there is still so much more we want to accomplish! Our passion and excitement for what we do are endless, and we wish you could feel it as strongly as we do.
This year has been especially fruitful in terms of research, and that progress excites us tremendously. We can’t wait to continue this adventure with you!
As we move forward together, I feel deeply grateful for the closeness we share. Your trust and connection are what drive me and everyone else behind the scenes. It is also the most rewarding part of this journey.
When you reach out—whether on the blog, Instagram, DM, or email—I always take notes. It’s never a bot or someone else replying to you, it’s always me. This means that if you have requests, wishes, or even regrets, I know about them. I do my best to respond to every message, though sometimes replies are delayed (waiting for information, needing more time, etc.), or occasionally a message gets lost. If that happens, please don’t hesitate to resend it—I will always do my best to get back to you. Talking to you truly gives me purpose. Unfortunately, the days are short, and there’s only so much I can accomplish on my own.
The wonderful thing about your messages is that they tell me what you love and what you miss. I’ve been looking for ways to honour that—to fulfil as many of your requests as possible in a way that’s both technically and financially feasible for everyone.
With exactly that in mind, we’ve created a new series:
THE SUPERSTARS.
This series features very special brushes: Brushes you’ve requested, discontinued designs or prototypes I’ve worked on before, but couldn’t bring into production.

Working on a prototype can take months, sometimes even years. By the time we’re ready to produce it, we often find that the materials or artisans we need are no longer available, and the prototype gets left behind.
We wanted to find a way to manufacture a specific brush whenever it becomes possible—even in small batches—without having to tie it to a particular set or collection. That’s what the Superstars are all about: this series is giving us the flexibility to release a brush you’ve been wishing for, or finally bring a long-awaited prototype to life.
We thought that this could be fun, it’s a process that works for all parties and we definitely wanted to give it a go! We hope that it sounds exciting! So, here’s how it will be happen:
FREQUENCY AND TIMELINE – We aim to release these Superstars brushes individually, one at a time. Our goal is to launch six or seven brushes each year, on regular intervals – though this is not a strict rule, it’s just to give you a rough estimate. The schedule may vary based on production and logistics and these are difficult to predict accurately.
There’s also no fixed launch timeline – this series depends on the availability of the components and the artisans. My close relationship with the artisans allows me to know when a design can move forward and when production is possible.
BRUSH DESIGNS – We maintain a waiting list where the most requested designs are nominated, along with a list of prototypes left on standby. When a design becomes technically feasible, it moves into production. These brushes are limited edition as we don’t now if it will be possible to manufacture them again.
FIRST RELEASES – The first Superstars that are launching in November/December 2025 are brushes that were initially planned for 2026. Since the release of our planned Holiday Collection had to be postponed to end January 2026, we decided to release some Superstars in the meantime. Doing this switch in the timeline allows us to still have something truly special for this holiday season.
Today we would like to introduce the first 3 Superstars: the DETAIL 1, the CREASE 1 and the CREASE 2.
They will launch on separate dates, but since these brushes have some similarities, we thought that showing them together will be really nice and useful. All the details about these 3 brushes will be shared further down in this post.

THE SUPERSTARS HANDLES
We have prepared a special handle for this series. The handles have the same shape as the original Fundamentals, they are thick and substantial, but the coating is different.
Instead of the black to red gradient, we have a black to blue gradient, that turns slightly black again just before it reaches the ferrule.
The blue is not the same as the SKY series, but the same blue as the Summer Koi handles, it’s a more intense vibrant blue.
The Sonia G logo on these handles is the same as the PRO or SKY series. Just like the Original Fundamentals, the logo symbol is also applied at the bottom of the handles.

These handles are a step up from the Fundamentals in terms of craftsmanship and cost. Our aim was to create something truly special to complement these unique brushes, handles that feel luxurious and refined, yet remain accessible without driving the price exponentially higher.
THE SUPERSTARS BRUSHES
The Superstars can be brushes you’ve specifically requested or prototypes I’ve worked on before, but never released. They can be brushes from the past, or a special iteration, or also an entirely new design. What they all have in common is that they can only be made in small batches at a given time. Our goal with these Superstars is to have the flexibility to create a special brush when it’s technically feasible, without requiring it to be part of a predefined set or series.
Today I will show you the first Superstars of this series: the DETAIL 2, the CREASE 1, and the CREASE 2.
The DETAIL 2 is a brush from the past. A highly requested brush and you wished for this one to be available individually.
The CREASE 1 is an entirely new design that I am thrilled to finally release.
The CREASE 2 is a special iteration of the previous Crease Two from the discontinued Fundamentals.

The DETAIL 2 will be available on Beautylish this Thursday, November 27th at 12 PM PT, at the same time as their Black Friday promotions start.
The CREASE 1 and CREASE 2 are scheduled to launch for the Holiday season in December 2025, with the exact date depending on when they arrive. We wanted to share all the details here, alongside the DETAIL 2 so you can see what’s coming soon—and, should you be interested in any of these brushes, make your choices with confidence.

– THE DETAIL 2 –

The ferrule of the DETAIL 2 is 10mm diameter at the base and the bristles are 25mm long. It has fullness and a domed surface.
It is a very small face brush for detail work on the face, for under the eyes, to use with highlighter, with setting or finishing powders.
This is not a blush brush, although we can use it with blush toppers for example to target their placement more accurately.
COMPARISONS
This brush is similar to the Setting Brush in the Maki-e Collector’s Edition set. That Setting brush was a very special brush, so incredibly soft and luxurious!
I received countless requests to release it individually—on any handle possible—and while it took some time, we’ve finally made it.

This DETAIL 2 is as close as can be to the Setting brush featured in the Maki-e Collector’s Set.

The DETAIL 2 has a wider ferrule in comparison to the Detail Pro and to the Worker L, and also a larger surface at the top.
If you own the Worker L or the Detail Pro, it’s a similar shape but it’s bigger, softer, with more flexibility in the bristles.
The Worker L and Detail Pro are going to be more directional with increased strength right in the centre of the brush, while the DETAIL 2 has its strength distributed across its surface and it targets a wider area.
SPECS AND PRICING
| Total length (mm) | Bristles length (mm) | Handle length (mm) | Material | Price USD | |
| DETAIL 2 | 170 | 25 | 105 | Grey squirrel bristles | 90 |
– THE CREASE 1 –

The bristles of the CREASE 1 are 20mm long. It’s a large eye brush, the ferrule has a wide diameter (approx 8.9-9mm), it has thickness and density. The bristles adapt and glide smoothly on the skin, their strength is evenly distributed across its entire working surface.
The CREASE 1 is an ideal brush for base shadow application or for a soft blend on the entire lid. On my eyes, its working surface covers the entire area from the crease up to the brow bone. If you love eye brushes on the bigger side, you will enjoy the size of this one.
It’s also an ideal size and shape to set the undereye area and to use with highlight or with brightening powders when we need precision. It has a nice stable working surface that offers good product pickup, it does not feel floppy or weak.
COMPARISONS
The CREASE 1 is a new design, there is nothing exactly like this design in my collection. The closest in shape and size are the Soft Blender from the Mini Essentials and the T8 from the Traditions Kakishibu. The CREASE 1 has a less tapered shape and longer bristles.
SPECS AND PRICING
| Total length (mm) | Bristles length (mm) | Handle length (mm) | Material | Price USD | |
| CREASE 1 | 160 | 20 | 105 | Blue Squirrel Bristles | 65 |
– THE CREASE 2 –

The bristles of the CREASE 2 are 18mm long. This is an extremely soft brush, the bristles open after wash but it retains a feeling of discipline that is not always present in a brush with 100% blue squirrel brushes. The bristles move with ease but it’s not a floppy crease brush, we can feel where the tip of the brush is working and this gives us control with the placement.
Its working surface is not too tapered, not too rounded, it’s just the right shape to fit comfortably in the crease while maintaining enough fullness along the sides, this helps to diffuse the product evenly.
This brush is inspired by the discontinued Fundamental Crease Two. Just like the Crease Two, it features a curved ferrule at the top and the bristles have a similar length (18mm). Many requested for the Fundamental Crease Two to come back, while we couldn’t bring it back yet -we don’t know today if this will be possible-, we were able to bring this very special iteration of the Crease Two and we really hope you will love it!

COMPARISONS
The bristles are the same length, the ferrule is curved at the top on these two brushes. The shape is also similar, however, the bristles on the previous Fundamental Crease Two are saikoho goat, while the bristles on this Crease 2 Superstars are blue squirrel.
The Fundamental Crease Two feels firmer and has more strength right at the surface.
This will give you an idea of the size and shape of the Crease 2 in comparison to other crease brushes. You can click on all these photos to see a close up. These are all clean brushes, but brushes that I use so it will be normal to see some scratches and wear on them!

The CREASE 1 and CREASE 2 are both crease brushes, but they are quite different in size, shape and functionality.
The CREASE 2 has some structure and firmness towards the centre of the brush, this allows us to target the crease and work with more precision.
The CREASE 1 covers a larger area, it doesn’t have this structure and firmness towards the tip; instead, the bristles flex evenly, delivering consistent strength across the whole surface.
SPECS AND PRICING
| Total length (mm) | Bristles length (mm) | Handle length (mm) | Material | Price USD | |
| CREASE 2 | 158 | 18 | 105 | Blue Squirrel Bristles | 55 |
AVAILABILITY
These Superstars will be available on Beautylish on different dates but we thought it would be nice to show these to you in the same post so you can see how they compare, and which one is the most likely to tempt you.
The DETAIL 2 will be available on Beautylish this Thursday, November 27th at 12 PM PT, at the same time as their Black Friday promotions start.
The CREASE 1 and CREASE 2 are scheduled to launch for the Holiday season in December, with the exact date depending on when they arrive. You can subscribe to my blog’s Newsletter (on the homepage) or you can follow me on Instagram, and I will share more details once we know the exact dates.

Sonia, these are so-so-so beautiful ❤️ a quick question, do you think there could be a use for crease brushes if I have smaller and very hooded eyes? (Other than blending a base colour all over the lid?)
Hi Gaukhar, thank you so much! The Crease 1 would be a nice brush for work around the eye area -near the nose to brighten that dark area, or to set the base. I also use it with highlighter.
I also have hooded eyes and the Crease 2 works, it still has some strength to target the placement but if you want to work in a very small area, then the Mini Booster might be the strongest of the two for this. Do you have this one?
Thank you so much for your reply, Sonia! Yes, I do have mini booster and I also have a complete Makie set, and the blending brushes from Summer Koi and Japanese Gardens are my favourites! ❤️
Very cool! How does the Detail 2 compare to the designer pro?
Hi Kimberly, thank you for your interest in these two brushes! they are very different brushes. Different material, strength and shape.
The Designer Pro is a brush you can also use for blush, the Detail 2 is much smaller, it’s for more detailed work like highlighter, setting.
The Detail 2 is round at its working surface so the more appropriate technique is circular movements, with the Designer Pro the work is more to be done with its sides.
It depends also what aesthetics you prefer, they are very different brushes also when it comes to handles.
I hope this helps!! but please let me know what kind of brush you are looking for if this was not helpful! <3 <3 <3
Always enjoy seeing your creativity come to life! Maybe show us even more of your design process. What inspires you? Do you draw by hand. Do you find yourself writing down a description of how you want the brush to perform?
Dear Denise,
This would require a book! 😀 what I did is that for the upcoming post about the holiday brush holder, I have included the inspiration and the process. I hope you will enjoy it and I will think about your question for an upcoming brush release, it will be fun to share! thank you so much for always being here! sending you lots of love and hugs!
Hi Sonia. How are you? I love the new brushes and where you are going with them. They have that gorgeous shade of blue like the koi set which is my favorite of that series. I’m excited for the the new brushes next drop. I love collecting your brushes as your artistic methods really speak to me and your relationship with the artisans is so beautiful to me. I’m wondering if you will be re-releasing detail 2 some time? I put it in my cart and it was gone before I got checked out. They went super fast! I’m determined to collect as many as I can. So far I’ve only missed a few. I hope you do but I also realize that holiday releases are usually limited edition and are gone when gone. Hoping for some good news! Most of all, thank you for all you do! The work that goes into it is so much more than just a brush maker selling brushes through a middleman in the US. It’s a tapestry of love. It’s all of you working together to form something that does not exist yet from thoughts and conversations and trust and more love. Thanks to you and the artisans for creating this light into many of our lives! #iykyk
Hi Michelle! I am well thank you so much, I hope you are doing amazing! Your message goes straight to my heart, thank you! The remaining of the order for the Detail 2 is still in production, they could not deliver all the production together so it will probably ship sometime between mid to end January.
The whole journey is much more than just brushes for us all, the artisans are extremely grateful to read your messages and it gives them so much hope, your messages are more powerful than you think. Thank you for being here and giving us so much love <3
Dear Sonia, I just received my detail 2 brush and it’s stunning. It’s so beautiful, even nicer than the pictures and description. I love the handle color and it is so soft. It’s a pleasure to use on sensitive skin, a new favorite. Thank you for making so many nice brushes.
Hi Anna, I am delighted that you are happy! thank you so much for sharing this amazing feedback and for your trust! sending you much much love!
Dear Sonia, I have ordered your detail 2 and can’t wait for it to arrive!❤️ I am very excited about the Crease 1 and Crease two. Since I have the Hakuhodo S142 with the vermilion handle, I wanted to ask you if the Crease 2 is not identical, so to know if there is a sense for me to have both. If they are not similar, how do they differ? The only drawback with S142 to me is that it is too pointy and does not fluff enough for my preferences. I usually keep all my brushes in brush guards. Thank you!
Hi Krasimira,
Thank you so much! The Detail 2 is such a unique and special brush!
I have uploaded here a photo of the S142 vs the Crease 2.
I depends on the batch of the bristles you have on the S142 but I will explain the difference that I notice with mine since I have the S142.
The Crease 2 has a larger diameter ferrule, there are more bristles and it has a curved ferrule, this tightens the shape of the brush, it makes the brush more directional with the placement.
The S142 will deliver a placement that is softer and more diffused, while the Crease 2 will offer a bit more control with the intensity towards the center of the placement, it has more snap and firmness and a more directional movement (the bristles won’t open as much when blending, so they’ll work within a smaller perimeter). Is this enough of a difference to justify having both? I am not sure. It depends how much this difference is important to you. The Crease 2 is even pointier because it was designed that way, so for you, the Crease 1 is more what you are looking for.
The Crease 1 is the one in the center of that photo and I am sorry the photo quality is pretty bad. I hope this helps you and thank you so much for considering my brushes! <3<3<3
Dear Sonia,
Thank you so much for your reply and for the foto. You are always so sweet and helpful! The Crease 1 brush is absolutely awesome and I want it for sure. It looks very much like my Bisyodo Grand series G-B-01 blender brush in squirrel hair, that I love and use constantly. I am taking this one for sure❤️
As for the Crease 2, your foto and comments eere precious and made me think. My S142 looks pretty much identical to your on the foto but actually mine does not splay much. And I think I was not lucky with the batch, since there is at least one hair that I feel scratchy on my super sensitive eyes and I actually almost never use it. Since I have almost all your brushes, also your first squirrel hair ones, and I have never had issues with their softness, I may decide to take also the Crease 2 hoping in a softer feeling with respect to my S142 one, and for a rounder shape, like the lowest brush in your foto. It will be perfection Thanks again for your kind help in choosing the right brush and for your wonderful creations! I follow you and buy your amazing brushes since 2017 and they are always among my favourite fude! I use your first crease 2 in goat hair almost every single day, even if I have so many brushes of this size and hair. It’s my all time favourite crease brush! You are simply the best! Much love!❤️
In the crease 1 introduction part, in the image, I saw detail 2? Is it an error?
hi Panpan, you are absolutely right! It was my mistake, I have now changed the name, thank you so much for pointing this out! <3 <3 <3
Hi Sonia! I am sorry very excited for these!!! Blue is a favorite colour of mine too! Wonderfully written, I think you answered most questions I had! I have made my purchase!
I’m so sad I missed these I’m hoping the crease 1 and 2 can make a some back
Sonia – I truly appreciate your absolutely stunning creations! I’m a huge fan. I initially missed out on crease 1 & 2 will these ever be back in stock?
Hi Nelly,
Thank you so so much!! this is so nice to hear, some Superstars can be brought back but unfortunately not all. Today we don’t know which ones but hopefully we will know soon… just waiting for the final confirmation. There will be an update in the News page (linked on the homepage) as soon as the brushes start production 🙂 Thank you again for your amazing patience, I sincerely appreciate it! <3
