Traditions Keyaki Kakishibu – Restock and New Brushes

by Sonia G.

We are so happy to announce the restock of the Traditions Keyaki Kakishibu brushes with the addition of 4 new beautiful and effective brush designs!

For the details of the previously released brushes, please have a look at these two in-depth posts linked below where you can read about the functionality of each brush, the details of the handles, the ferrules and the kakishibu dyed bristles.

Eye brushes: T1 – T2 – T3 – T4 – T5 – T6
Face brushes: TF1 – TF2 – TF3

TF4 – T7 – T8 – T9

Precision, power, ease and fun

I truly love using these kakishibu-dyed brushes. Every detail, from the handle to the bristles, reflects incredible craftsmanship, and beyond their beauty, they perform as reliable, hardworking tools.

For this new release, my goal was to develop new designs that not only respond to different needs—such as achieving a higher level of precision or making specific products and techniques more intuitive—but also spark a sense of play and joy in make-up, weather we are rushing out the door or taking time to indulge.

There is one new face brush (TF4) and 3 new eye brushes (T7, T8, T9).
With nine brushes already defining this series, these new 4 additions were designed to refine and expand its possibilities. For example bring in more precision with the T9, a more targeted blending power with the T7, more ease with all-over lid application with the T8 and, last but not least, the TF4 adds a truly unique, playful and super loaded twist to this collection.

If you’ve used brushes from this series, then you know the kind of performance these bristles deliver. Today, I’m excited to walk you through the latest additions and talk about how they stack up against the originals.

The new Keyaki Kakishibu Eye (Vol.2)
T7 – T8 – T9

TRADITIONS T7

The T7 is a laydown/crease/outer v/target blender type of brush. It’s what I usually call a “worker” brush because of its versatility, but it’s intentionally denser and more compact than the Worker S (more details in the comparison below).

The bristles are 12mm long, the ferrule is pinched and the brush has a flat-ish surface, it’s dense and compact, but it has movement.

I was aiming for a brush for the outer v and for more sculptural placement and blending, with a surface at the top that could blend in a linear manner rather than in a circular motion – this is so that we can lift and structure the application as we go.

I love to draw the placement along the crease, with my hooded lids it’s becoming tricky to navigate in there, but the surface of this brush allows me to target the intensity just where I need it and then blend it precisely.

Many hybrid formulas create a beautiful finish on the skin and tend to be more forgiving on textured lids, I love these formulas a lot! However, to unlock their full potential -as some can be quite stubborn-, we need powerful tools that allow seamless transitions between different textures. This need inspired the design of this brush.
With the ideal balance of density and strength, it works effortlessly across multiple formulas, and then, the thick and flat-ish surface allows for a wide range of tasks. This is why it can be a laydown brush, a crease brush, an outer v brush, a smudger, a blending or even a one-and-done brush if this is a size that works for you.

T7 – Summer Koi Small Builder – T2 (sideways)

In this side-by-side pic, you can clearly see the difference in thickness between these three brushes. The T7 has a thicker flat-ish surface in comparison.
I mentioned the Worker S brush before, but the T7 is intentionally denser and firmer compared to the Worker S, this is for its surface to have this additional grip on the products and a better control to carve or sculpt the placement.

T7 – Worker S

TRADITIONS T8

The T8 is a base, all-over and blending type of brush, it can also be a crease brush depending on the lid space available.
The bristles are 18mm long with a 9mm diameter ferrule.

The T8 has a generous body but the bristles have a smooth and easy flow, they splay out and feel airy, yet taper slightly at the tip to hug the crease area. What is truly special with this material and this shape is how predictably the bristles move, even if the brush is quite big and airy, it remains controllable.

For the base application, or the final blend, or just a one-shadow type of look, it’s phenomenal. I have hooded eyes and little space available, and I still use this brush daily. For those who have a more generous eye lid surface, this one is truly wonderful, the working surface around the tip is bundled just at the right angle for the application along the crease to be nicely and evenly diffused.

The T8 can also be used for setting purposes or with concealer. The kakishibu dyed bristles can be used with any formula, powders or creams. As long as there is enough strength in the bristles to blend the product without putting too much stress on the bristles, it can definitely fit the purpose. Some prefer to use fluffy brushes like this one for the application of concealer so if this is your case, you may love this brush also for concealer.

COMPARISONS

T8 vs T3 vs T4

T8 – T3 – T4

The T8 looks like the T3 from afar, but the T8 is a bigger, fluffier brush.
The T3 feels firmer and doesn’t splay out like the T8, the T3 is for more targeted placement and blending.
The T4 is smaller and flat at the top in comparison to the T8.

TRADITIONS T9

T9

The T9 is a pencil brush, the ferrule is slightly pinched to allow for more precision and control with the tip. It is quite thick at the base and this allows for the tip to be nicely stable when gliding.

The bristles are 7mm long, the tip of this little brush is firm but not stiff. The movement in the bristles allows to precisely follow the lash line with determination but without skipping.

It’s powerful, yet supple and soft on the skin. It’s also sharp with the placement, but not too much that it requires attention or effort, this makes it easy to achieve a quick and even application.

It can be used with powders and creams. The application can be between 1 and 2.5 mm depending on the pressure we use.
Definition continues to be the step that I cannot skip and I also absolutely love sparkles close to lashline, however, I have extremely sensitive eyes. The only way I can safely play with sparkles along the lash line is if they stay put, for example using waterproof or long-lasting sparkly eye pencils. I use them almost every single day but with the help of this T9 to transfer the pencil onto the lasline, this is my preferred way to ensure the application is even and not too thick.

Another reason why I love this brush so much, is to strategically apply a black or a very dark powder shadow and wing it out softly, this is more forgiving than liquid eyeliner on my eyes and definitely so much easier!

The T9 can also be used in the inner corner of the eye, to outline the lips, to spot conceal or on the brows. We can define with the thinner side and turn the brush to use the wider side to blend – should we wish to.

COMPARISONS

T9 vs Summer Koi set Flat Pencil vs T1
T9 – Summer Koi Flat Pencil – T1
T9 – Summer Koi Flat Pencil – T1 (sideways)

The T9 is a smaller version of the Summer Koi Flat Pencil, with a similar flow in the bristles but it’s more precise in comparison.

The T1 has a wider and flatter surface, more appropriate for smudging, while the T9 is really going to work with more precise definition.

The new Keyaki Kakishibu face brush
TF4

TRADITIONS TF4

TF4

The TF4 is a detail face brush, the bristles are 25mm long, they splay out so nicely, but they are not floppy at all, you will have a feel of density and strength.

The ferrule is pinched, providing two degrees of precision: if you use the surface and turn the brush sideways you will achieve a more targeted placement, but you can also use it at an angle.

For those who prefer a targeted powder application, the TF4 will take this step to a whole new level, placing and buffing the results to a flawless finish. It’s a masterpiece for highlight and contour, just the ideal size for the temples, forehead, cheek hollows and jawline. What I love the most about this brush, is that I can pick-place-diffuse-blend-buff-polish the product with the same little brush!

The need for this brush was triggered by my love for palettes like the IPSA, blushes like the SUQQU Blurring, or powders that have one pan but with different formulas or finishes. With this TF4, we can be playful and enjoy every inch of those pans!
I have also often been asked for a brush that would allow us to play with blush using precision in a more artistic manner, to intentionally and precisely place it, drape it, layer it. This was the reasoning behind its shape, it’s a fun brush to be creative but also so relevant for day-to-day application.

COMPARISONS

TF4 vs T6 vs TF3

Just like the T6, the TF4 has an arched ferrule that allows it to splay and give the brush the most ideal shape and movement for the purpose, but this new brush is quite bigger.

TF4 – T6
TF4 – T6 (sideways)

The TF4 was designed to perfectly bridge the gap in size and function between the T6 and the TF3 and this unique design unlocks so many possibilities!

TF3 – TF4 – T6
TF4 – Worker L

The TF4 is a bigger brush in comparison to the Worker L, I wanted to add a side-by-side pic to show you that it’s going to offer a wider surface to work with.

TRADITIONS KEYAKI KAKISHIBU EYE BRUSHES RECAP

The brushes T1 to T6 were released in January 2024, we have been restocking them since then. The T7, T8 and T9 are now joining the eye collection. It’s a long process to make the handles, to dye the bristles and get the ferrules, but we aim to continue to restock them whenever we can.

AVAILABILITY

The restock, as well as these new Traditions Keyaki Kakishibu brushes will be available starting this Friday, August 29th, 2025 at 9 AM PT on the Beautylish website.

Please kindly keep in mind that these are handmade brushes, the bristles are dyed by hand by only one Master Artisan, the handles are handmade one by one in Japan, these are probably the most complex handles we are currently manufacturing. Also, the ferrules are made in Japan using bespoke tools, these are not mass-produced pieces and every single one is special in its own way.

This restock and release is so exciting!!! I’ve not stopped using T1-T6 since I’ve had them. Can’t wait to get my hands on the new ones along with a duplicate of T6! Keep bringing us these lovely creations.

You have the most thoughtfully detailed brush comparisons that we need to make an informed purchasing decision. Thank you so much for this! I will be supporting this launch very soon. I know you value our feedback and are so gracious about it. I wanted to share that I would love if the TF4 bristles could have the dye further down the length of the hair. The dye adds even more resilience while still staying so soft, and I, like others enjoy using the sides of the brush head to apply makeup in a sweeping motion. Having the dye further down the hairs instead of being concentrated at the top/tips, would enhance that experience. I also love the rich color it brings!

Hi Leila!
Sorry for the late reply, I am trying to catch up on all the comments, thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind comment!!
I love kakishibu dye so much, it truly gives that power to the bristles that is so special.
I can share a little bit more about the dye process and why it has that gradient effect, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
The structure of the bristle is thicker at the bottom, and thinner at the top, so when dying the bristles, the dye is going to automatically look somehow gradient because it will absorb more easily at the tips. If we aim for an even darker color at the base, then it means the dying needs to take longer and therefore weakening the tips, or even breaking them. It’s not something that the artisan recommends, while doing the process, he judges when “it’s ready” in order to obtain the best balance between softness/efficiency/durability. He dyes each batch by hand so each time the result will be different, and also, with time, the bristles darken naturally and get even richer!
I hope this helps, but please do let me know, I’ll be happy to share more.
Thank you again!!

Dear Sonia,

Well done! Just when I think you must surely have run out of brush shapes by now, you come out with three innovative new designs. I especially love TF4 and T8. They’re unusual and look like fun to use, yet also very practical.

One question… do you really truly promise that T4 is big enough for a standalone blush brush? I’m a blush draping fiend with a small face so I love the idea… it’s just so tiny that I have to ask! And what is it like in terms of density and intensity of application?

I’m currently travelling for medical reasons and it is so comforting having my mini keyaki brushes with me. Classic Face is just so soft and Mini Booster is so versatile. I’m so happy with them I’m online placing an order for Soft Face and Jumbo Worker! Now I will have a complete set of vol 1 and vol 2.

Also, T4 is a true holy grail for me! It is the best brush I have ever found for using matte shadows above the crease. The size is perfect for my smaller features and the flat top lays down pigment with perfect evenness. It even seems to blend while it applies! Thank you for making such wonderful brushes.

Hello Diana!
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
There will be fun and functional shapes in the future, I have been working on interesting things but the challenge with handmade brushes in Japan is that these are truly artisanal, crafted using traditional methods and tools, so we have many limitations and we need to ramp up on quite a few aspects (in parallel). It’s not that easy and it can take years to obtain a result that is something we can move into production. It’s more challenging than we think but it is so amazing to see that the artisans are so excited and happy to come to work, and to see how our customers appreciate our work is so encouraging for everyone! Your comment means a lot so thank you again for taking the time to leave it!

The TF4 … well, I don’t have a small face but I can use it for blush, it’s not a blush brush but it allows me to do blush placements that other brushes can’t do, also sculpting like no other, it’s just perfect for any sculpting work.
It’s a very small brush, here is the pic vs the Classic Face for reference: front and side with the Classic face. This will give you a better idea. It won’t replace the Classic Face during your travels, it will complement it when you need more buffing power or more precision placement. I use it for blush because I have many many face palettes with small pans where I cannot even fit a normal size face brush and an eyeshadow brush won’t do because it won’t splay out like the TF4 does. So it won’t be your one and only blush brush, but it will be one of a kind.
So happy you are getting the mini keyaki brushes! Keyaki is getting so high in costs, it’s a good idea to get them if you had them in your mind. (thank you!!!)
T4 is a great and understated crease brush, that flatish surface is ideal for even placement as you say, it’s just the best crease brush shape to create with these special kakishibu bristles, I am delighted that you love it as much as I do!
It’s my absolute pleasure to still be here today and stay relevant to the very fast evolving world… thank you again for your kind support and love!

Dear Sonia, congratulations on another wonderful series, which is amazing and I love it. Others have covered me fully here, so I will just go ahead and ask when the TF4 brush is going to restock please? Because it is the only one I am missing from completing my beautiful collection of these. Thank you in advance!

Hi Sonia, I purchased the TF4 and love it! When I use powder blush I apply a light wash on my eyelids as well as I have a lot of space above my eyes. This brush fits perfectly in that space so I don’t have to change brushes. It is very similar to the Sky mini cheek but feels softer and seems to flow nicer. What a lovely experience! Would love to see this in a mini one day!

Hello Miss Sonia, have you considered adding a brush similar to the lotus detail brush to the Traditions series? I missed out on that lotus brush but love the Traditions series. Also, do you have an estimation on when the TF4 will be restocked?

Hi! The TF4 is now being produced ! so a few months still to go but it will be back! There is nothing like that little Lotus planned but there is something with a more innovative shape coming that is designed to do a similar function, I hope you will love it (should be launching end March…)
Thank you again!!
