The Pencil One, Smudger One and Crease One were launched at the very beginning of my journey, in 2017.
These 3 brushes were initially bundled with blue squirrel bristles, but we had to discontinue them due to the availability of the materials. We switched to saikoho goat bristles and we were able to keep them for a while, they were amazing, but so many of you wished for a restock of the very first edition of these brushes, the ones from 2017.
So today, we are finally bringing back a Limited Edition restock of this very first 2017 edition, not only bundled with blue squirrel bristles, but also paired with the very first handles, and manufactured by the same artisans.

Maybe you already own these brushes, or maybe you heard about them. If this is the very first time that you see them, I will share the details below – should you wish to consider adding them to your collection!
THE HANDLES
The handles are the same length as the PRO and FUSION series, but with a heavier, thicker design.
They also showcase the same coating as the PRO or FUSION handles, with the similar gradation technique and ratio.
We can see the sparkles reflecting the light from the underneath layers. The gradient stands out so beautifully on these thicker handles.

Just like in 2017, the brush names as well as “Japan” are applied at the back.
We wanted to also do the logos like we did on the first edition.

The little symbol is separated from the logo and instead, it is applied at the bottom of the handles.
THE BRUSHES

When I designed these brushes back in 2015/2016, I was aiming for extremely soft detail brushes that would allow so much control and precision with the placement. This can be quite difficult to achieve when working with extremely soft bristles.
If the flow and the strength of the bristles are not perfectly balanced, the bristles may skip on the skin, deliver an uneven application or they can become frustrating to use because of their lack of efficiency.
It’s a matter of finding that perfect shape that will allow the brush to continuously deliver quick flawless results and feel effortless at the same time, this is exactly what will make us reach for that particular brush over and over again. If you still want a lot of control, but still the softest tool for the purpose, this is where these brushes are so relevant.
PENCIL ONE

It’s a medium size pencil brush, it’s not floppy, it has some firmness but with movement. It can do work along the lash line but also in the outer v, inner corner, great for detail work or precise placement (crease or along the brow).

Just in between the Pencil Pro and the Pencil S. With the Pencil One, you will be able to work with more precision in comparison to the Pencil Pro, but it will not be as sharp as the Pencil S.
The Pencil S is what I use daily, it’s a tiny pencil brush that can work with the ability of an eye pencil. But eye pencils can be too harsh at times, so the Pencil S will allow us to work with more finesse, gradually and precisely build the placement.
The Pencil Pro is bigger, more dramatic and intense than the Pencil One, it will be fun for bold definition or for smudging.
SMUDGER ONE

The Smudger One was designed to offer sharp defining precision. Many soft brushes that have a thin or narrow tip will have too much flexibility and may lack strength at the tip, or feel like knives on the skin, this is not the case with this little brush.
The ferrule is pinched and also slightly curved at the base of the bristles (1). Sideways, the bristles taper to a narrow tip (2). The brush has firmness but the slightly curved shape (3) allows the tip to have just enough movement when placing the product.

CREASE ONE

This brush was designed for those of us who want an extremely pointy crease or laydown type of tool, but with enough strength and volume to pick up a good amount of product, place and diffuse it evenly.
This brush is so fun when we want to work with precision and don’t have that much space to play with. Like a painter, we can structure the placement, the point is not going to be too floppy or move randomly, we have full control.

This side by side pic will give you an idea of its size in comparison to the Pencil One.

Oooo!! These are stunning !! I love the handles !! I prefer them over the tapered ones ! Love the little detail at the bottom of the handle ! I can’t wait to get my hands on these as I missed them ! I started fude just a few years ago
Thank you for your feedback Ana!!
I enjoyed reading about these! Hopefully they’ll stick around. All your creations I’ve tried have been nothing short of amazing . My makeup has never looked better! I’m on the edge of my seat awaiting the reveal and release of the Holiday Brush Holder.
Thank you so so much Sunsarae! this is so encouraging and heart-warming, I appreciate it so much!
I love all of my Sonia G! I am waiting on the restock of the Keyaki mini buffer. I don’t have social media anymore so is there a good place to go to for a heads up? . Thank you!
Hi Felicia! Thank you so much!!
We are working on a new website and other ways of communicating with you on the updates, in the meantime, I will post here on this blog as well and will send a newsletter, do you receive our newsletters?
I don’t receive the newsletters but would love too!!!
The new website sounds great! Thank you!
Sonia,
I was lucky enough to grab these three eye brushes and they arrived today. They are truly exceptional, that is exactly what I want for my eye brushes. I tried to order another set of these three, unfortunately they have been sold out on Beautylish. My question is that are they going to be restocked again soon? I so desperately want another set of these brushes and they must me my most favorite eye brushes now.
These look stunning! I am absolutely new to Fude brushes world. Out of fude brushes I only own Suqqu blush brush and an L eyeshadow brush in blue squirrel, a Mini Booster and a Chikuhodo pencil brush. I have just purchased your complete eye maki-e set (hoping that it would close all my wishes for eye brushes ), and now eyeing this set as well.
I was wondering, if your Smudger One resembles (visually and functionally) any of brushes from complete maki-e collection? I think that it doesn’t but I’m not sure.
Many thanks for your work, Sonia!
Hi Gaukhar,
So sorry for my late reply!
You own amazing Fude, the Suqqus are amazing, and thank you so much for purchasing the entire maki-e set, I hope you are having fun with it!!
The closest is the pencil in the Summer Koi set, so I took some photos (sorry they are a bit blurry) for you to see both side by side.
Click here to see the swatches, they are both precision pencils but the swatch with the Smudger one (bottom swatch), is bolder and sharper, you can obtain a very neat placement.
here and here pictures of both brushes.
For me definition around my eyes is extremely important, it’s what truly makes me look more awake and rested so I rely a lot on these two, either one or the other, or even both. I first go with the Smudger One, then a slightly thicker pencil if necessary, for me they are totally different brushes but they are both brushes for definition so depending on what you are looking for, you may not need both.
If you had to get one from these Originals trio, I would definitely go for the Smudger One as there is nothing like it and it’s a brush that not all artisans are able to produce, so quite unique.
Sending you love and a huge thank you!!
Sonia, thank you so much for your detailed answer! I appreciate the swatches. Now that I’ve played with the maki-e complete eye set I must say how much I love every single brush! Just looking at them is my meditation!
I am now revisiting all my eye makeup now that I have so many brushes with different bristle types. I fell in love with the smooth blender from the Summer Koi set – it is such a unique shape!
I am now looking forward to this set as well, if I’m lucky. I also managed to grab Sunset Cranes pencil and Mini Keyaki Niji and Mini Keyaki Buffer!
Oh Sonia, thank you so much for bringing these back and just like the OG’s from 2017. I was finally able to grab them and now I cannot wait to have them in my hands. I just received your brush book and the mini sheer buffer. I have never been able to apply blush and bronzer the way that I do with this brush. I feel it looks professional and I am always floored when I am asked who did my makeup. Like what, who did it! I did. Or should I say the mini sheer buffer. I love it. I love all your brushes. Thanks so much Sonia.
