I don’t have much time at this moment to browse neither the online nor the counter collections but I still managed to splurge on a few items… Some are still on their way to me and others were bought at the counters here, I’ll share mine and if you found any great items or holy grails for the Holiday collections, please share with us!
I had been looking at this Chanel Charming palette for a little while, wasn’t really tempted because it reminded me a bit too much of the Edward Bess quads. I hesitated and when I finally decided to get it it wasn’t available anymore.Β I was able to find it because the shopping center where I usually buy the By Terry products had thought of re-ordering as soon as it was sold-out, lucky me.
Is this really too similar to the Edward Bess quads ? No. Although it looks like. The pattern and some of the textures are similar but if you take a closer look, the shades aren’t.
I tried to take some swatches of the most similar shadows from the EB quads hoping to show you some difference.
- The number 1 from the left is completely different from the 3 lighter shades of all the EB palettes which are totally matte, almost too matte for my liking.
- The number 2 is a matte but has a satiny finish, my favorite type of finish and the color is just enough visible to create a subtle shadow to the crease, that shade is divine. It is not powdery at all.
- The number 3 in the center looks so close to the EB Sun and Stars from the distance but in the swatches the Chanel is a darker bronze with more brown in it.
- The number 4 is a gorgeous warm brown with again a matte-satiny finish. When I read Temptalia’s review, I feel like I did not get the same palette, her swatches look more powdery and now I wonder if there is any difference between the USA and the Europe palettes.
- The number 5 is a matte very dark grey purple that doesn’t feel powdery to me at all.
All the shades apply nicely, evenly and the wearable combination makes it one of the most attractive palettes since I am really into easy to wear daily palettes. The 3rd shade is too shimmery for me and that is my only regret. I mix it with the brown and blend both together, it adds more wearability and the result is more sultry and less coppery.
I saw the Chanel blush in Accent and once more I thought I had a similar blush already (but I still took it…because you all tempted me with your comments in the forum…). The Lancome Miel GlacΓ© is my go-to for a no-makeup makeup look, it’s what I call a perfecting type of blush, gives some shine and a fair unifying neutral color. Accent is more sparkly and Miel GlacΓ© is more satin-metallic but both in a good way, not at all a blocking point.
Both are easy to wear, I’d say that the Lancome is a beige-pink and the Chanel a pink-beige π Ignore the black liner, it’s just there for camera-focus purposes…
When I spotted the Chanel Radieuse I thought I was looking at Mac Lazy Day ! I had to take it with me because Lazy Day is my go-to summer sexy lips, blue-pink lipsticks are not easy to wear for me, I have to apply a light coat and leave it subtle but I adore the final look paired with a very black smokey eye.
I really hope you can see the difference in the swatches, Radieuse, Mac Lazy Day and Mac Angel are very similar, Mac Hue and Creme Cup are warmer.
I was wearing Radieuse this week but I used the Tom Ford 04 Pink Guilt gloss lightly on top of it and it was totally ok for the office since it was twisting down the blue of the lipstick. Just for info, TF Pink Guilt is my favorite lipgloss EVER, I will feature it in my upcoming holy grail post, I never really saw an interest in having my lips look glossy-in-your-face until I saw this look in aΒ Charlotte Tilbury video, I was in Scotland at that time and I literally had to run to Harveys to get it, if that gloss could give the same effect as it does in the video it had to be mine asap. And it does deliver, not for shy people but there is a way to have it look normal though, don’t be scared by the video.
It’s a huge love affair, ladies and gentlemen, you have just been introduced to the gloss of my life. Either just lightly in the center of the lips or dramatically all over, this TF gloss is to die for. Β Even though I hate the fact that TF customer services never replied to any of my emails (I think I just sent 2 so far), I have to award TF the MUM (makeup man) of the year 2013.
I also got the Chanel Rose PoudrΓ©, it’s the best lip liner for me, nude enough but brightening, adds some color to the lips but for me it acts just as a base underneath a lipstick or the TF gloss. It’s in between my other two fabs, RBR Marco and By Terry Rosy Nude, this Chanel is spot on and she told me it would remain in their collection, I really hope so!
In the same shop I saw the By Terry holiday collection, I wasn’t tempted by the sparkly liners or the metallic cream shadow sticks this time but I saw the new serum foundation, it’s called Terribly Densiliss, you can read an article here about it. Usually the By Terry foundations I wear are shade 5 but this time it looked really too fair for me, that’s why I ended up with the two samples π
I tried it two days in a row, yes I confirm I saw that the appearance of my skin was improved (although not much more than with Ellis Faas to be honest), I loved the finish and it made me look younger (didn’t make a miracle but at least it’s the impression it gave me…) unfortunately it’s a bit too matte for me, I applied it lightly otherwise it was looking too thick and obvious and is not that easy to work with and make it invisible, I am thinking that for combination or oily skin it would look much better. I really love how it looks on myself, the coverage is light to medium but it just doesn’t work on my very very dry skin, sad… Maybe this could be a nice foundation for summer, since I will not apply it thick and it will tone down the shine that my moisturizer over-delivers, I think it has the potential of a great combination. For now, with the winter weather we have here I will have to stay away.
I was chatting with the lady at the beauty counter about the cold weather and telling her my dry hands were crying for help and she said “try Cicalfate from Avene, it’s amazing, a thick layer at night and you will see in the morning your hands will feel sooo smooth and nourished“. So I looked for it in a pharmacy nearby and bought it, it was approx 12 usd.
I wash my hands all the time and sanitize them often (all the shaking hands at the office makes me nervous, too many microbes going on). I think that at the end of this winter I will be print-free by the look of it, the cold and chemicals are burning my fingertips. I tried the cream, it helps on the back of my hands but the palms are so dry that I am scared to touch anything, feels awful, even the microfibre cloth for cleaning the brushes feels terrible when I touch it.Β After trying this Avene for a few days, I can say it’s a nice cream but does not repair all that I need repairing… the back of my hands feel better, the front it’s not solved yet.
…do you Β have any miracle tip ?? who knows, maybe someone here is reading and can give me (us) a hand π
The same evening I was browsing in the rest of the shops and I was looking for something that could help with the smell at home, the renovation works are causing a really weird glue smell to be too invasive and I wanted to do something -at least locally- about it. I found this Room Fragrance from Mathilde M. interesting. Β A mixture of woody notes, spicy and vanilla. It costed approx 20usd for a 100ml bottle but it solved my problem π I can come back from work now and feel more relaxed. Some small things can do a lot sometimes.
It was during the same scarily shopping evening that I found this…. when I saw that they now carry Ciate and that they had the Christmas calendar I felt like a child. I have last year’s and wanted this one so much but it’s not easy to order nail polish and I couldn’t find a way to get my nails on it π
Last week I was telling my BF how much I wanted this type of holiday calendar but with nail polish just like the one I had in 2012… π (not with chocolates!)
I went totally crazy and grabbed it (was the last one), when it was time I opened the number 1 but felt like something was not right…
They don’t have the bow glued to them! My other calendar is in a box due to the house works but I am pretty sure it had a bow! if you look online you clearly see the tiny little bows… and a Ciate without a bow … hmmmm is not a Ciate π but it’s lovely, I am just thinking that something is missing here and if the next years doesn’t have a bow, I will probably skip it. The devil is in the detail and the detail is missing… Β π
Now onto something different… Some months ago I asked in the forum what shampoo you could recommend me and you mentioned Philip B.
When I went to the shops in UK, I saw it, saw the price and I just could not…. seriously ? Β more than 100 Gbp for a bottle ? NO way.
This week I found this sample in my stash and I tried it. H-o-l-y…. ok ok I get it. Β I tried to find it somewhere at a better price, there is no much luck with that but I still had to order it… I decided to go for Net-a-Porter because we are related professionally and because they were offering express shipping for free and I need that shampoo ASAP. I got the Russian Amber ones by the way.
I feel like I have hair again… I will try the Russian range and let you know if that meets my expectations π it sounds promising specially also because of its scent.
What’s now ??
Still trying to do my Suqqu post but it’s not easy, not enough time for everything π Β I am right now trying products that I received and I hope I will be able to combine a makeup and skincare review.
What’s next ?
There is the big Christmas release… I am totally excited about the new functionality of the blog, if you love brushes I think there is a big chance you’ll love what’s coming up… Β Every minute counts in order for me to open this section on time, but I will ! I am doing everything myself so don’t expect a very professional look but sometimes I like to believe that a more personal and intimate feel is not that bad… We are a small community of brush lovers here and I am blessed with your support!
For the future renovation works at home it will finally concern my “room”. It’s a room where I have my office and my Ikea Besta Burs. What you see here is before the works, I will show you what it will look afterwards once done, they should complete the works by January. They will change one window, add another one, remove the wood on the walls, add isolation and only then I will be able to paint and decorate it.
In the meantime, if you are curious to see what it looks like today, well, just a few minutes ago… here Β it is :
I don’t like the lights so they are not up yet (too bright), I will have to find another solution, I am using an old Β piano chair and I had to add a mirror in the middle because the one at the back is too far away…
The brushes I use on a daily basis are there but they get changed all the time. I don’t have a wall behind me because they are working on the cables and electricity so I just hanged a curtain in the meantime to hide the big cabling mess.
And on the shelf here are my little kabukis :
My temporary office looks like that (now you can imagine me reading your comments sitting here) π
I will need to buy an office chair, but I already bought the desk, not a great idea to get a glass desk because it’s freaking cold here but at least it’s hygienic… (looking at the bright side). I bought it in Ikea for approx 65 usd, not bad! it has the world map drawing underneath the glass, I like it but as I said, it’s really cold -if the room is cold- and when you lay your arms on it, you won’t like it.
All the white Ikea furniture you see is filled with beauty products … handy when I am typing to be able to reach for everything.
I will show you in January or February what they did, I am nervous because this week I left 200 brushes sitting on my desk (with the Kashoen silk cloth to cover them) and when I came home they had put my bf’s tools and other things on top of the silk cloth and the brushes…. nearly had an heart attack. Hopefully 2 more months and the works will end (at least in my room).
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday, I just had breakfast that I cooked myself, this is called a “Tresse” (a braid), it’s like bread but softer and buttery and typically for breakfast π What are you up to??

Hello! What a great post π A little bit of everything!
Although we here in Georgia have a reprieve from the bitter cold (it has been 70 degrees and muggy up till today) I know I will be right behind you with the hand issue. I have yet to find my miracle fixβ¦ hope someone has and will shareβ¦. TF Pink Guilt is one sexy lipgloss for sure! It reminds me a little of a discontinued Chanel (Vollage or something like that) that used to be my HG on top of Bobbi Brown Pale pink. Yes, TF gets the MUM of 2013 from me as well. Loving your IKEA furniture (I can’t look at IKEA without imagining cosmetics in all the closed drawers no matter what someone is really using it for!) The map of the world on your desk is so appropriate!
How in the world you had time to bake is beyond me! xoxo
yes.. hm not very organized π
That’s right, I haven’t thought of it, but the map of the world is indeed quite appropriate π
I bake because I love to eat π always find time for that!! lol
Hope the kind tips left here will help you too, I will try them!!
I really l like the Elizabeth Arden 8h cream for dry hands. The regular one over night with cotton gloves, because it takes forever to absorb, and the 8h hand cream when I’m out and about, because it absorbs very nicely and efficiently. A nice pharmacy alternative for over night use is the Bepanthen ointment :).
Thank you Olga, great idea!
For my winter-plagued hands both Lush hand creams (handguru and helping hands) are working quite well!
Another one to try !! amazing π thanks Ina!
I understand that washing your hands is important but it is really damaging for skin. So…hope you find your dream product soon.
My hands are so sensitive as winter means eczema for them. The less painful solutions to keep them in shape (that’s all I can ask) are,
1. “E45 cream” from UK
2. Earthbound organic face cream from UK
3. Etude House “Any Oil 21” from Korea
It’s kind of weird for me to turn down a hand cream every time my friends offering one but my hands just can’t stand a random one.
I have heard of a repairing balm for problematic skin:
Meadowlake’s farm “Hive Isolates Salve”
I also read that some people go for soaked cereal in lukewarm water as the only bathing liquid for face to let her skin repair. I do that occasionally for my legs.
That’s a ton of ideas.. thank you Gladys! noted! I have the E45 here actually, will give that a try tonight π
Actually I went through the product recommendation by the National Eczema group of US and Paula Choice Review before placing my Walgreens order.
I did have the Physiogel Cream (lipid) or aqueous cream/ vaseline, All clinical recommendation, but they don’t work well for me, my solutions change from time to time.
Please be patient before testing sth. really expensive, it’s true that this whole process is totally money burning, but it’s about finding the right moisture/ oil combination for yourself. Heal first, adding special nutrients next.
Sorry for the careless typo, it is more than embarrassing this time. (@_@) – sb. kill me plx….
it should be oatmeal, I guess you heard of oatmeal content in cream? The famous Aveeno? But you can soak some in warm water and let it swell and use the oatmeal and water (don’t use too much water to clean the oatmeal grains).
Drat you Sonia for showing that Chanel palette! Those colours are right up my alley lol. I cannot wait to see what the end result of your brush sanctuary will look like! Two large screens, you are a techie indeed! I have a large one too that I hook my 12.5in Lenovo X230 to from time to time. π
I work from home sometimes so I need some equipment π
Bea, you must also spend quite a lot of time on the computer so a big screen is really handy π
Oh,so many gorgeous items! If only I could win the lottery I’d buy all the things!
I hope the works finish soon so you can finally feel at ease.As for the “accident” the tools and things sitting on top of the brushes, let me tell you,if it was me I would have already had the heart attack! π
Also,I don’t think I’ve mentioned, but I am from Greece, and we have “Tresse” here too! It’s called “tsoureki” in Greek and it’s a traditional recipe for Christmas and Easter, especially Easter.Although it is exclusively sweet, not sickening sweet, but just a sweet type of bread,if you can call it that. It’s always nice to see things you recognize coming from other people in all kinds of places around the world π
Oh believe me I was near to the final state of shock when I saw my desk… π
I have just googled Tsoureki, waw looks yummy π I think we have a similar kind of Tsoureki in Spain, sweeter than the usual Swiss Tresse and I love that too π I don’t like too much cream in patisseries but sweet bread is delicious (a bit too much π )
Hi Sonia, first of all thank you for a wonderful blog, I read it all the time but never wrote to you. Try bag balm for your hands
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-01-31-bagbalm_N.htm
I know it sounds strange since it was not even designed for humans, but it works magic. If you can’t find it in Europe, I can send you some from the USA,it is sold at drug stores and is not expensive. It’s only available in the USA ? I have to look here..
you are very welcome Karina π
thank you, that’s weird but I take note of that, I am willing to try anything π very interesting!
Hello Sonia,
For my dry hands I use Josie Maran Body Butter in Sweet Citrus. This is the only thing that will absorb into my dry skin. I usually depot a small amount in an empty container and carry it around in my bag. JM also has come out with a hand lotion, but I feel the body butter is my HG “hand” lotion for my dry, alligator hands. I also hate when I pick up a microfiber cloth and it sticks to the dry patches on my hands. Here is the link http://tinyurl.com/p5yxhgw. I hope this or another suggestion helps.
Maria
thank you Maria, I wasn’t expecting so much help from you all, I am really delighted with all your tips ! lot of homework now π
Hi Sonia, thanks for a lovely post! Yes, I am still reading your posts although my brush collecting has come to a halt (I have everything I need) and my makeup collecting has slowed down quite a bit.
I also have very dry hands made worse by frequent hand washing. What works for me when they are in bad shape are lower end thick creams which I apply before bed time and cover with cheap thin cotton gloves which I buy online by the dozen. Two I highly recommend are The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector (only this one, not the other hand creams they have) and Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. They are not sexy, but they do work well. My husband calls me Minnie (as in Minnie Mouse) when I use them.
For day, I like Creme de la Mer The Hand Treatment which seems to coat my hands with a protective film but is not sticky or greasy. It also smells nice unlike the other two.
Hope you, your boyfriend and dog have a wonderful holiday season!
oh Hi Kay !! nice to hear from you!
Minnie can be sexy too π I used that Neutrogena and it’s nice, I think I will get a tiny tube for the handbag, we’ll see if I can find these gloves to copy you π
I hope you will have a wonderful holiday too π
thinking of you!!
You could also try moisturizing gloves. I have tried some and they help but are more expensive and I don’t like using them night after night. Cotton doesn’t keep moisture in as well, but they do feel cleaner/comfortable (I toss them into the washer/dryer and put on a fresh pair at night) and work well enough with a thick cream slathered on — plus they keep the bedding clean. And yes, sexy is in the eyes of the beholder!
i got mines last week but haven’t used it yet,Great comparisons hun!:) and your new room is coming along so nicely, can’t wait to see it all finished! π
On bread, nothing quite like home made bread for breakfast and it looks wonderful, i’m definitely a big fan of this bread … now i’m hungry again
you are not that far away, you could join me for breakfast on Sunday π
I have no recommendations for hand cream but I gasped when you said that tools had been laid on your brushes. That bread looks delicious and your braid is great, mine needs a bit of work.
yes Devin, I gasp everyday … I open the door slow motion to take the shock progressively π
I got better with the braid just recently π
I never knew that such expensive shampoo exists!? D:
Without seeing your hands, I would recommend something like ‘Linola Fett’. You get it in (German) pharamcies. It’s an amazing ointment, a bit expensive, but amazing! I would use it as a treatment over night in your case.
This is the info about it:
Linola Fett is the ideal moisturising cream for treating very dry, cracked or itchy skin, such as dermatitis. As its active ingredient, Linola Fett contains unsaturated fatty acids (including linoleic acid) which are needed for the barrier function in healthy skin.
– Supports the skinβs natural defences against irritants and toxins
– Promotes the skinβs natural regeneration process
– Combats itching and inflammation
– W/O emulsion β lipid content 60%
– No preservatives
I don’t know what kind of soap you use, but I would definitely go for one that has a ph of 5,5.
Thank you Sumin π
the shampoo yes it exists.. I just bought the mini tube because it was either reviving the hair or going to the hairdresser and after my recent visit to the hairdresser in Switzerland believe me, you don’t want that for your hair…
Actually you just gave me a great idea, carry my soap with me to work, maybe it’s the office soap that is really not good …
hmmm linola.. I saw that brand somewhere in Switzerland, have to do some research, thanks a lot for all the previous info π
Sonia, I have very dry hands too. In the winter they crack and bleed. I wash hands frequently too.
The only cream that REALLY helps is one that was recommended to me by a friend who is a nurse. It is a fat cream, and you may want only to sleep with it, as it is very greasy. After a night with a thick layer on, my hands are soft and smooth, but I also use it in the day time. the first half hour my hands are very greasy though. It can be used on the whole body as well: http://www.apoteket-online.dk/ukategoriseret-fra-import/664-ceridal-fedtcreme.html
thank you Jeanette !
I will write down all your suggestions, will go to the pharmacy or drugstore and will show them my list, see what they can find for me π
They probably will think I am nuts … π
What a cool idea! An advent calendar with beauty products in it. Haven’t seen any here in NZ. Seen one by Benefit on Musings of a Muse’s blog. I can imagine how exciting that would be, especially if it includes makeup from various brands:)
Mmm, your Tresse looks yum. I use to make something similar every Christmas. Pulla, from Finland; Kugelhopf, from Austria; and Vanocka from Czechoslovakia. So, is Tresse from Switzerland?
it’s really exciting providing you wait and open the right window each day π I have to control myself…
http://delimoon.com/2008/02/29/tresse-du-dimanche/ yes it is π you can see in that link how beautiful it looks when it’s done ok, actually I just realized I wasn’t doing the right braid! take a pic of yours (sounds creepy), take a pic of the one you make please and send it to us (or post in the forum under recipes!!) I have to start doing that too.. just for fun and to share our kitchen favs π http://forum.sweetmakeuptemptations.com/viewforum.php?f=35
Does your boyfriend have any idea how lucky he is to have you??? A full time high powered job, a hugely time-consuming hobby & you still find the time to bake fresh bread for breakfast?????
Your bread if known as Zopf in Germany. I like the Hefezopf best. It’s a slightly sweet yeast bread made richer with milk and butter. Really yummy!!
My # 1 hand cream at the moment is from First Aid Beauty. I can use the Ultra Repair Cream during the day, but the Ultra Repair Concentrate I use only at night as it takes a while to absorb completely. I use it on my feet at night too.
I loove Hefezopf too, yummie !!
have to try that!!
Thank you Buggsiebee, I think you are exaggerating here!!
I find baking bread is zenifying, I do it for him but also for me π
“Zopf or ZΓΌpfe is a type of Swiss bread made from white flour, milk, eggs, butter and yeast.” zo… zat’s ze one π
what’s the weather in Germany at the moment ?? where I live it’s sunny but once I go down into Geneva it’s a mess, foggy, icy, somebody crashed into me today argggghhhh
Oh your little sweet friends have a nice place to make you happy in all the mess around you with the renovations π and noticed the little cute koyudo ? brushes at the wall.
Wow thats really a workstation at home but since you can also work from home thats normal i have a big 27′ at work otherwise all the program palettes would cover almost the whole screen π and when you get crazy about something during your work you can look at all the little friends on the shelfs or pat a sooft brush.
Hmm what an idea i could bring a brush with me to work but i think with all the men in my room they would think i’m totally crazy…
I’m really excited about your ready room too you def must share some pics.
You are our working, blogging and baking heroine ! Our superwoman ! π
yes my tiny ones are on the wall haha well spoted, the three on the left were a present from Koyudo, the one on the right I bought it at the museum π
Definitely men cannot understand.. unless it’s Wayne of course, if you start to pat your brushes they’ll start imagining things π
Sure I will share pics!
ARGH, I am definitely not a superwoman, I make way too many mistakes π
Oh no, was I the one that recommended the Philip B…? Sorry if I did!!! I love the mint one, feels wonderful on the scalp!
Charming and Accent are on their way to me. Thanks for the reviews on the Chanel lip liner! I was just looking for a new lip liner!
And what a beautiful room! You put so much attention into detail π And those gorgeous kabukis all lines up in the bell glasses…..
(Please send me bread :P)
yes you did evil woman !!!
I am enjoying that lipliner combined with the new YSL vernis a levres 106, you should try that!!! my lips but definitely much better much longer π
I read some article from a dermatologist that said every time you wash your hands you should apply a moisturizer immediately after. Preferably when they are still a little damp.
I suffer from eczema on my fingers and this is the advice my dermatologist gave me regarding the dry, peeling, cracked skin on my fingers.
Avoid getting your hands wet unless absolutely necessary like washing your hands after going to the washroom, shower, etc… If you get them wet then apply moisturizer directly afterwards. If you have to do any other work that gets your hands wet like washing your brushes or dishes, etc.. then wear waterproof gloves like playtex/latex.
Sonia, are you gonna get the chikuhodo p-8 when it comes out? It soo luxurious and extravagant. Such high price though!
When i was a kid, i watched a talkshow where a hand model was sharing her nightly routine to keep her hands perfect : by using extra virgin olive oil on both hands, then put a pair of gloves on, and just let it do the job while you sleep. Had tried it, and it works, just don’t use too much oils on the nails, or you’ll need lime to wash the yellow-ish residue in the morning. Secondly, i don’t know what kind of gloves is suitable, i used wool and it’s ok.
Thank you Merle, I was thinking of doing that … now I will π
just sent you an email about signing up for the forum! thanks and pink guilt is my fave too! i passed on charming but may need another look! thanks!
Pink guilt… I am sooo in love π
welcome to the Forum π
For your hands, try the brand Flexitol. They also make a foot cream. Both are high in urea which is supposed to held aid in hydration. The cream is very thick and can be sticky so I suggest gloves at night. I’ve had good results with both. Also, I don’t know if this pertains to you but I use face products with AHAs and BHAs which will dry out my palms in no time. I try to avoid using my hands when applying these types of products and will use a synthetic brush if cream or cotton pad if liquid. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
What I love about Mathilde M is the room fragrance diffuser in the shape of Marie Antoinette. It’s adorable.
