My current Holy Grail setting powder has quickly become the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder in Ethereal. Now since you do not know me I must say this, I do not really have any Holy Grail products. I have things I love and use, but nothing else that I would just never consider using something else, but with this powder it has become something that I just do not see myself wanting to try anything else. The reason I love it so much is because I use it to basically set my under eye concealer then if I am feeling froggy to dust it over my face. But MAN the way it looks under my eyes is just magical. It blurs and brightens, but does not look powdery or cakey. I love it and try to recommend, at least that shade, to everyone I talk to!

Oh I so want to take part. AND I did like your facebook page (as you know :-)…

Anyway, a limited edition. Well frankly, I find a lot of things have been discontinued that I’d love to see again:
Bobbi Brown – Long Wear Cream Shadow in Bellini (the closest to Ellis Faas pinky peach eyeshadow… and we all know by now how that packaging is making me angry)
I wished Nars would bring back their liquid eye-liners they used to have 10 years ago. I loved the colour Bullitt!! And I still have a pot but scared to use it because it’s really OLD. Now they are all discontinued.

Anyway, change is good too and I keep reading your blog for new inspirations!

Lots of love to you! And FABULOUS give away I must say!

Thanks for this generous giveaway ๐Ÿ™‚

I love bronzers. As of now my HG bronzer is NARS Laguna but with the arrival of fall, i am using the NARS Zen blush as a fall bronzer.I’m quite fair and the bronzers give me a nice glow. I also use the larger than life liners from NARS. They make it easy for me to tightline the top lash line and the upper water line and they don’t budge!

Well, the 23rd is my birthday so that would be appropriate :)!!!! The first thing that comes to mind is both LE and HG – my all time favorite Sheer Summer Glow powder by Burberry. I have yet to find a powder that gives the same glow with out being sparkly. It was nearly impossible to get when it came out, and now whatever is left is being sold on ebay for $200. I despise LE products for just this reason, and now automatically hesitate when I see them instead of feeling the need to immediately buy.

My Holy Grail red lip is good ol’ Ruby Woo from MAC. The color is perfect in tone and intensity and while a lot of people hate its texture, I LOVE how matte it is. I hate having to touch up my lips every other minute so I prefer formulas that stay put.

Ah! My holy grail product- I have to admit a big one is my Quidad Climate Control Gel. It keeps my curls looking excellent. My other HG product NYX HD Eye Primer. I have tried all kinds and this drugstore version does the best job at a low price!

My current love is actually a skin product, but it’s made all the difference in my enjoyment of color cosmetics. It’s the Verso Day Cream with a retinol ingredient that’s gentle even on my skin but has improved my skin tone so much in the past several weeks that I seriously contemplated going to work today without any tinted moisturizer or foundation. Any. Which, if I need to stress it any more, is unheard of for me ๐Ÿ™‚

And the HG product is the limited edition single eyeshadow from Cle de Peau last year–Satin Eye Color in 116. It is the perfect smoky burgundy for an easy and day-appropriate smoky eye.

I know the transition to this new format has taken a while but it’s well worth the effort. I really enjoy the new format and am partial to the white background ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. I also like you on Facebook!

I’m completely in love with my Nars blusher in Sin. In fact I love most of my Nars blushers, but for autum and winter I specially gravitate towards Sin. It’s a perfect purplish tone that you can combine with anything.

Oooo, my HG (right now ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) would have to be my YSL radiant touch highlighter pen. Hate that it’s in the pen, grosses me out, but I use it everyday. Perfect for light coverage for under eye circles and great for making me look “awake”.

Hi,
First of all, congrats on the new look of your site, I find this a very pleasing, comforting lay-out. Less distraction si, for my eyes, even better focus on content and pictures made possible. Chapeau!

My HG’s of the moment are:
– my first ever TF lipstick, although I purchased sort of the wrong colour (online) and that really hurts my wallet I still love love the lipstick, the packaging, the structure.
– as always, Guerlain la Voilette. Never failed me, so far.
– a BB lipstick in the colour Nude, works very well for me as an everyday lipstick, cannot go wrong with this one.
– 2 eye shadow pencils by Charlotte Tilbury, very easy to work with and great colour pay-off.
– of topic: I purchased SUQQU browshader, quite a disappointment alas, i had such high hopes beforehand.

Recently I closed my FB account so I cannot follow you there, will do so on Twitter.

Kind regards from

Marja

Hi Sonia, this is my first time posting in any beauty blog ever. First and foremost, I want to thank you for your post on “Ultimate Flattering Matte And Satin Eyeshadows For Everyone”. I’m 44 this year and has just become interested in makeup. I’m so glad I read your post before I made more mistakes:)

My HG product is the Za Liquid Eyeliner 01 Black which has lasted me months of daily use. It has a fine felt/brush-like tip which delivers a fine line. The cap seem to have another inner spring-loaded cap on the inside for a tight seal. I did have the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner prior to the Za one but it didn’t last very long.

My HG product is actually the Chikuhodo Z4 blush brush, thanks to you. My blush has never looked better, low key and diffused, just the way I like it.

My holy grail…it surprises and annoys me recently that I find so many neutral e/s quads doesn’t go well with my eyes because of my brownish dark circles.

So I would say I love my Channel eyelash curler for my left eye and my Suqqu eyelash curler for my right eye.

I also love Channel ILLUSION d’OMBRE very much, #84 is my dear buddy.

My HG foundation was Chanel Pro Lumiere – was gutted when they discontinued it but the Vitalumiere is a good enough replacement. Would prefer it if it had the coverage of Pro Lumiere but it’s definitely the best foundation on the market for my skin that I know of.

The new design of Sweet Temptations is a real visual delight, and I’m looking forward to all of your upcoming posts.

My HG cleansing tool, has been a rayon/cotton washcloth when coupled with a cream cleanser removes every last bit of makeup. It’s called a Wonder Cloth, the fibers grab and wipe away every trace, beautifully. So a cleaner face has led to a marked improvement in my skin’s clarity and texture. Then, I found a perfect bronzy powder in Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Bronzing Veil, in Tropical Nights. It’s my shader, eye shadow, and highlighter. Where many bronzers are orangey..this one steers clear of that trap, and goes into a softly brown metallic without making your cheekbones look like car fenders. I apply it with the Hakuhodo white goat fan brush for the cheeks, and the Wayne Goss #4 for the eye lids. The result is a soft and dimensional.

Here to show my support ๐Ÿ™‚ Just want to let you know that you’ve done a terrific job with the blog, the outcome has been fantastic and you can be really proud!
As a blogger myself, I can really appreciate the time and effort that goes into these things.
Lately I’ve fallen in love with the Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer; it’s my absolute favourite find of 2013 because it’s legitimately invisible on the skin. Perfect for the no makeup makeup look ๐Ÿ™‚

Not a massive mac fan–although my collection to the lay-makeup-woman would disagree–I would have loved to have picked up the limited edition paint pot in Eclair. Also I would love to resurrect the discontinued range of liquid lipsticks that Dior used to have. I’m rationing my favourite shade and wish I could find a dupe!

Cheers to your blog’s rebirth, Sonia!

Being the weird girl that I am, I have an obbessive love for sunscreens. I’ve already found my HG, which is from an unknown local brand here called Sunskeen, but I still look around for anothe HG! Maybe because my current one is used up so easily. Right now I’m looking for an HG undereye concealer! Mine are genetically dark, so this is sort of a must for me ๐Ÿ™

Thank you for the giveaway! (:

And Sonia, I love the blog’s new look!

That’s a lot, sheesh!! ๐Ÿ™‚

HG and long lost LE was prescriptives false lashes mascara. Never clumped, never flakes, foolproof! Closest match is chantecaille mascara but don’t love nearly so well.

I’m similar to previous poster I hesitate to buy LE rather than rush to buy, been burnt too many times.

My holy grail at the moment would have to be MUFE’s aqua brows. I look and feel absolutely naked and incomplete without my brows filled in. The colour match is perfect for me, a dark brown greyish black with no red at all and while its a gel and I feel like I am literally painting my brows, it looks SO natural and the tiniest bit goes a long way. Not to mention it’s the longest lasting brow product I have tried! It’s not 100% budgeproof, but it will get me through the day, through exercise and sweat, and my brows will still be there at the end of the day! ๐Ÿ™‚

A limited edition product that I want to resuscitate would be the RMK 15th anniversary cheek palette. It is so adorable and pretty! It’s like a collector’s item.

My holy grail product: Dior Creme de Rose HANDS DOWN! It’s literally the only thing that can keep my lips moisturized the whole day! My lips used to be so dry so I really need to use lip balm every day. With any other lip balm I would have to reapply all the time so I looove my Creme de Rose as I only need to use it once in every few hours. Of course I use it more than I actually need, just because it smells so lovely ๐Ÿ˜‰ (And cute packaging, too! Love to carry it around) The only downside is it’s a tin lip balm, so you have to dip your fingers in every time you want to use, might be a bit inconvenient and unhygienic.

My HG (& LE) nail polish is (the original) Chanel Vamp. They released a new version I think in 2012 but it’s not the exact same shade as the original..

My other HG is not a beauty product per se, as I am just starting out the world of makeup- but My favorite fragrance of all time is Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis.

Hi Sonia, being relativily new in the world of make up i still not have found my Hg product. At the moment i can say that i love the research itself of this. The moment in when touching and playing with a new product i discover its strengths and weaknesses. And yes even the right way to use it. Of course i also made purchases incorrect but that’s part of the game. Coming back to the question i have to say that my day are now taken by the adoration for the Hakuhodo j5523 and the last shu uemura collection: 6 hp christmas palette kit black.

God I wish for once in my life I win a giveaway! Hoping for the best! Here goes…

I love makeup and for the longest time I only knew Chanel to be the best but I’ve since checked out new brands so for Powder I love their Poudre Universelle in Natural, cuts off the shine after application.

For eyeshadows I really love Dolce & Gabanna, their duos and quads have the colours I truly adore (greens, blues, purples, pinks…)

For eyeliners I really am in love with YSL’s Babydoll liquid liners! Absolutely beautiful, the colours are magnificent, doesn’t bleed after application, long-lasting, and I have 3 colours which I can wear alone without having to put eyeshadows and still look put together (golden brown, brilliant turquoise, and purple!). For pencil liners I use Chanel’s waterproof liners in Marine, Violine, Cassis…and Beryl, my holy grail eye brightener liner).

For face colours, either I skip blush to use a bronzer (Chanel Sahara) or use Ultra Rose blush (Chanel). If I’m wanting a deeper blush I turn to Tom Ford’s Savage).

For my lips I am faithful to most Chanel Rouge Allure (my faves are Exaltee/fuchsia, and Enjouee/coral) but ever since my lips have had a Tom Ford Experience, I am totally in love with these three colours which I wear all year around regardless of season: Wild Ginger (bright orange red), Violet Fatale (bright purple/fuchsia) & the legendary Black Orchid.

I finish off with highlighter which seriously changes a look (if I only put blush n lipstick on I really need to have a highlighter! Never leave home without!) I love an old one from T.Le Clerc (I pretty sure this has been discontinued the last decade, long story!) it is a Banane which is their sate product, but this one has a shimmer which give a super glow that I seriously love. I use it alternatively with Chanel’s Mouche de Beaute.

Ps: foundation I only have 3 and it’s enough. I use D&G liquid in Caramel if I’m “pale”-ish, Tom Ford liquid in Tawny, and Vichy Dermablend in Bronze.

I can name them all because they are all my holy grail products and what I use everyday in rotation.

Thanks for this chance to win something beautiful!

I don’t have a lot of HG items, which is fine because this way the hunt can continue ;). There’s a lot of things that I really like but they’re not my definition of HG, I mean I love them, but if the opportunity to try something new in the same product category arises, I will, knowing that if I don’t like it I can always go back to X once it’s up.

But, my HG black liquid liner is by Kanebo Sensai, and eyebrow pencil by Shiseido in Ash Blond. My HG nude lippie, if bleeping YSL hadn’t discontinued it, would be Rouge Pur Shine in Natural Honey, and my HG lipsticks at all, bright, scary, glamorous colours, are ALL by Rouge Volupte, and the sadists at YSL are discontinuing the entire line too. I hate YSL. At one point or another I’ve had HG products from them for complexion and colour, but they discontinue EVERYTHING. I love, love, love their products, but I hate the company…

My current Holy Grail beauty products must be Nars Sheer Glow foundation in Stromboli. I’m kind of a collector, which means I just buy things I like and rarely use them, especially make up products, since I’m just a student and don’t have much time to put on make up everyday. But Nars Sheer Glow foudation is just irresistible, it makes my skin look like perfect in a very human way. It covers well without being cakey and the glow is sheer but amazing. However, the shade is just the best of it, fits my “awkward” olive skin color. I can’t find any other shades that work better. I use it everyday to everywhere and get tons of jealous stares. Now I am starting to use up the products that I purchased.

PS: Thank you for the amazing giveaway with gorgeous prizes. If I am chosen, I will be really really happy to add one of them to my little museum (just kidding, I definitely use it, Nars foundation has really changed me)

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I just DIE at the thought of winning my first ever highlighting powder, let alone Guerlain Cruel Gardenia. Swoon!

My holy grail product of the moment is Moogoo’s Vitamin C Serum – my face has been very raw and sensitive in the cold of late, and it makes my face feel so comfortable…

A limited edition product that I would like very much to resuscitate is Mac Heroine, the lipstick. I generally think elegance is understated and Mac Heroine is far from being an understated shade, but I can see it rocking a pale evening gown pretty well.

Out of any product I wish I could bring back it would be Chanel’s Joues Contraste blush in Turbulent! It was THE perfect shade of cool pink for my fair skin. The luminosity and radiance it gave to the skin was other-worldly and never made me look shiny. It was like I was blushing from within. WHY CHANEL? WHY?! Lisa Eldridge purchased a dozen of them when she realized they were being discontinued…obviously that means that it’s a holy grail product! RIP Turbulent….</3

Amazing prizes, thank you!
my current HG has to be the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow duo. The powders basically melt into the skin and look oh so natural. It’s expensive skin in a compact and is the kind of product that gets you a lot of complements on your skin.

My holy grail product would have to be Chanel JC in Rose Ecrin because it just looks best on me ๐Ÿ™‚ It just works…

But in terms of reviving a certain item I would say Tom Ford Narcotic Rouge… too bad I wasn’t an addict then ๐Ÿ˜›

I just found your blog through Karima’s recommendation on Facebook, and oh my god, not.good.for.my.wallet.at.all. I am just waiting for some makeup brushes from Wayne Goss in the mail (I got the Nos. 02, 06 and 08) and I hope I’ll like them. I’ve been also wanting to try the Hakuhodo brushes for quite a while but can’t really get myself to buy them with the high Customs Charges in the EU.
My HG for years now has been NARS Sheer Glow foundation and at the moment I’m loving the Hourglass Brow pencil and my Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows.
I really look forward to reading your future posts and will now start getting through all your previous ones. Klara

My holy grail is definitely mascara: I don’t have a particular favourite, it’s just the kind of product itself. I spent years wearing mascara and maybe a bit of black pencil, that was all. And even now that I’m more into makeup it happens that, when I’m super late, I spend 2 minutes of my time to apply it.
My lashes are quite long but not very thick, so I’m always looking for volumizing mascaras ๐Ÿ™‚

I LOVE your blog, and I’m learning so much about great makeup brushes – getting ready for my first investments in high-quality brushes, so I’m learning a lot from the community here! Let’s see, HG products…that would be Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons for me, as a finishing powder – I’m darker, and the bronzer matches my skin tone perfectly, plus it softens and smooths the surface of my skin, it really looks amazing. Favorite LE product is the Guerlain Crazy Terracotta bronzer that’s out right now! It’s the PERFECT glowy bronzy-pink blush on me!

My current most favorite HG product is the Tatcha skincare line. It is simple and leaves your skin feeling radiant. I have tried many of their products and there is nothing that I do not like. In terms of makeup, my HGs are the Armani waterproof eyeliner and Maestro Foundation.

I enjoy reading your blog and it has inspired me to purchase several Hakuhodo brushes, which I love. Thank you for the contest!

Not holy grail, but the first makeup item that ever really stirred emotion was MAC’s smoked ruby mineralize eyshadow. I had never bought anything but drugstore makeup before, but I was walking by the MAC counter one day and saw the pan. I knew I shouldn’t be spending $20 for one eyeshadow at that time, but I just couldn’t resist the black and burgundy swirls. It still holds a special place on my vanity.

Thanks for the giveaway, and congratulations!

I never knew I loved brushes this much until I found your blog! I’ve subscribed before but I can’t remember if it was on Facebook or via the email field here. All I know is that I have been getting updates of your posts.

I have so many makeup loves but at the moment it is the Becca Cream Blushes in Hyacinth, Amaryllis and Tuberose which I have been stocking up on as Becca is insanely discontinuing them in favour of their Beach Tints.

Love the site but it is so information/ image heavy that it freezes my (old) laptop all the time…but I don’t mind. I even save your posts to my phone so I can read them offline.

My holy grail product is my Inika mineral powder foundation. It is not that luxurious, but I use it every day I wear makeup, and it is a must for me. The finish is beautiful, and it doesn’t break me out ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe a more exiting product I love, is my YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 08 Belle The Rose, which is the perfect dark, red fall colour for me. And also my Diorific nail polishes (Diva and Marilyn), from the 2012 holiday collection – the bottles are so pretty!

I love your blog!

My HG product is Guerlain L’Ors Primer. It fits my dry skin and makes applying any foundation go smoothly.
So far, my HG Foundation is Guerlain Parure Lumiere. Probably because the shade ambre clair (asia exclusive) is the perfect match to my skin. Im also starting to love the Ellis Faas skin veil, though beige undertone (102) is not a perfect (but the closest) match for me, the product seems to melt and starts to match my skin tone.
Thanks for your fab giveaways!

Hi!! Iยดm really new to the makeup world!! Iยดm almost 29 years old, have two babies and no idea how to apply makeup. Since is almost my birthday, my husband decided I made a shopping cart at sephora.com and hakuhodousa.com as my gift! So, I have almost the best of makeup (Most of these products thanks to your reviews) and havenยดt use any of them yet. If I have to choose a holy grail product based on no use (What is totally insane), I will say my brushes from Hakuhodo. When I look at them I only see perfection!!!

Well, I do love that Guerlain Cruel Gardenia, besides, I have never won any giveaway in my whole life. So.. I will give it another try here!! Ha~
My current fav, but not really HG product because I don’t think I really have one, has to be Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation. I haven’t tried it until recently, because ever since it was released, all the bloggers and reviewers have been saying this is for oily and combination skins, dry skin will not love this. But I really wanted to give it a try and guess what!! This has to be my favorite foundation so far!!
And another limited edition product I want to share is the Hourglass ambient lighting powder compact. I have the regular one in diffused light and love it. So I really want to try the good deal compact. But the moment sephora began their 20% off sale this year, that compact was literally gone forever. Permanently out of stock. And I didn’t get one. It’s just a sad story for me. Now I’ll have to try harder to get my hands on it….

What beautiful, wonderful products! I have always wanted to try the Rouge Bunny Rouge line… Seems to be very high quality.. And the Tom Ford lipstick and Guerlain powder are gorgeous!!
I have so many favorite products, gosh.. To choose one, I think I would pick ellis faas skin veil…. The formula is so comfortable on the skin and the results is so seemless… The product does not sit on the skin in an obvious way, and it does not make me look overly shiny or oily like some liquid foundations do. I do like her little click pens! Which I know have mixed reviews, but her foundation in the bottle is a much better deal..
Love your blog! Xo from USA

My HG products are Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm (literally the best lip balm I’ve ever used) and, for making eyeshadows super intense, Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. I’m still looking for HG lipsticks/glosses, foundations, and the like, but so far I do like the Milani Colour Statement lipsticks and Paul & Joe lipglosses (the only glosses that have never caused me an allergic reaction). The L’Oreal ‘dupes’ of the YSL Glossy Stains are very nice, but I do want to try the original versions so I can’t say they’re HG.

Hi Sonia. Thanks for organising this fab competition. I’m not on FB and don’t use Twitter, I’m afraid but I love your work. I have a number of HG products.
Skincare: Tretinoin Cream 0.05%; Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid; Omnilux red and infrared light therapy device
Cosmetics: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone; Eyeshadows by Guerlain and Clarins (I love them all!).
Brushes: Shiseido perfect foundation brush; Hakuhodo G527; Trish McEvoy Sheer blush brush
Discontinued products: Clinique Repairwear Anti-Aging foundation (the old formulation); Lilac lipstick by Givenchy; Initial perfume by Boucheron; Dessin eyeshadow palette by Dior (very old).

I have one product that I still dream of that’s haunted me since I was a teenager. My father wouldn’t let me wear any makeup until I was sixteen but I bought a deep, deep red lipstick by Lancรดme when I was in my early teens (I think it was numbered but I don’t remember). It was the darkest red lipstick available and must have cost me a bomb. It was so satiny and highly pigmented and supremely Sexy. Va va va voom! For three years, I would put it on at home in my bedroom, admire it, think of all the adventures I would have wearing it, and then I would wipe it off. I almost used it up before I turned sixteen. I’d kill to have that lipstick now!
