I hate Mondays… well not sure anymore

by Sonia G.

Do you ? I do. But today was a special Monday. Very awfully busy at work but sometimes somebody just takes you by surprise and makes your heart go sweet and happy. Since my new host is not ready yet to host me… I have to wait for the site migration but in the meantime I wanted to share my Monday with you, and also ask you something at the very end of this post.

So… busy day but funny day. Remember the Furbys in the year 2000 ? I believe it was released around that year. I had one and loved it to pieces, just made me laugh like a little child. But I lost it, let’s say I left my ex and in the rush I forgot it πŸ˜€ Β Today one colleague started playing a demo video of this Furby in the open space. My BF works with me in the same open space and when he saw our colleague’s video, he knows I love this toy so he called me to show me and I went kind of crazy dancing the Furby dance in the crowded open space myself… just can’t help it, it’s a contagious dark force transmitted by the silliest toy. There I was looking like a 3 year’s old. Β Since my BF was still around -looking away like he doesn’t know me but still- I said “I would loooove the little white one” at least 10x – you know, hoping he could hear my voice… and buy me one !! I know him, that won’t happen, he has a thousand qualities but the surprise factor nope. Β But I’ll definitely buy one some day.

Why was behaving like a 3 years old worth mentioning ? Because after work I went to a book shop then I went to a drugstore to buy PH testers for my future post on brush cleaning, I am doing some research for that post. In my way one cannot skip the sales corner right ? I saw the Guerlain palette from the LIU collection, of course I had to get it for me because it was half price and I heard good things about it. Then I also got a Cruel Gardenia but not for me this time, this will be part of a little Giveaway in my future website providing we survive the migration…

mondayhaul

The Cruel Gardenia is a bit damaged on the exterior of the petals but it’s because somebody touched the sides with the packaging, anyway, I still think this could be an interesting piece for a giveaway.

While I was getting ready to pay, the lady at the counter was searching for a lot of samples to give me, I didn’t stop her, always happy to try high end skincare. So once she got all of them on the table she started explaining “hmmm this one is for a +25 years old, so not much for you actually“. Okay…. I thought she was kidding, she thinks I am under 25… . I replied “it should be fine I can handle it, I am 42
I think I heard her jaw hit the counter, she called her colleague and told her I was 42… Β I think I heard another jaw hit the counter. I mean … seriously ??? No it can’t be. Do they really think I could be under 25 ??? If we take the average of my previous 3 years old attitude with my current age of 42, it makes 22.5, so yes, only like that it can be true… Β πŸ˜€ Β This lady chatted with me for a long while, asked me for my secret, she still gave me a lot of samples that could target my very dry skin and also a few other pieces, it was fun, but I don’t think that you can get a better compliment and that was the better part.

It has been a while since I shared some fav make up items with you, which takes me to my Monday make up routine, that apparently can make you look a bit younger πŸ˜€ works for me !

Since I hate Mondays so much, that day my make up routine has to be 100% straightforward, safe and fool-proof. This can be achieved with these products :

mondayroutine

I bought the Addiction Tuxedo moon eye shadow palette in Japan and it has already dips in the lighter pans, it’s fantastic, looks like a too boring palette but I can manage a very sexy look with that and it lasts all day long. I apply the grey in the mobile lid, the pinkish till the browbone, the brown in the crease and the black in the outer V. With someΒ Lancome In Love Chocolate Affair, a black eyeliner (here the Dolly Wink) and my RMK mascara.

For the lips I combine two lipliners, the darker RBR in Marco on the outside (thick blurred line) and the By Terry in Rosy Nude to fill the rest in, then I apply a coral Suqqu lipstick.

For the face I still use Ellis Faas and as blush one the new Edward Bess (Secret Affair or Bed of Roses). My Monday brushes that never disappoint are the new Chikuhodo GSN 5 (foundation) and GSN 4 (blush), I am completely utterly in love with them. You can use this foundation brush with just any foundation at all, and this blush brush has my favorite shape ever for blushes (flat and round) paired with softness and density. Β So there you go, an easy but efficient combination of products that I like to use when I want the insurance for an easy yet sexy youthful routine.

After my little shopping, since I missed the train (twice) and since I am home alone tonight, I went to McDonalds to eat a children’s happy meal, due to my food intolerances a little hamburger is all I can afford but I get a toy for my 3 years old self, well, how funny is the fact they gave me this little guy here !!! The beauty-smurf !!! I couldn’t help laughing at the table, that’s a keeper !

smurf

Ok, that’s it for my Monday, how about yours ???

Actually I have a question for you… you know I am Β preparing the forum, not the usual forum you would see in a beauty hub but I hope you’ll enjoy. I am reading Dante at the moment so forgive me if my categories may have a wicked name… Β Kind of… “Welcome to the Purgatorium… confess your sins and embrace your passion” πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I have already a lot of topics covered but if you have a special request, something you dream to be able to talk about in a forum, let me know and I may be able to include it if not already there.

Guerlain! I love this Liu palette and those lipsticks are just amazing. Even though Tuxedo Moon is a neutral palette, I don’t find it boring πŸ˜‰ I hate mondays as well though xxx

I used it today and got lots of compliments πŸ™‚ really love it, the taupe finish is quite unique.
I would call Tuxedo moon a complex neutral, layering the grey is also an option and it just looks amazing despite my ageing eyelids ! You have the Liu and the Addiction ?

Whaa you had an furby and have “lost” it ? πŸ˜€ I wanted one so badly but my parents said no :'(
Now I have the Ellis Faas foundation too since it is half price at niche. But i have to mix the lightest shade a bit with a white foundation πŸ™
How does the dolly wink work for you ? I like how precise it is and its long lasting πŸ˜‰

I had a very lazy monday today (holiday) πŸ˜€

Well I could have called my ex and ask him for the Furby but I am not sure he would give it back to me alive… I would find the Furby hanging in the middle of the village πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
It’s a really funny toy, it can only make you laugh !
The Dolly is precise, so easy to use, the only thing is that after 10 hours it has lost its sharp line at some places, you can’t really notice unless you look close. I prefer the By Terry for that but the Dolly is so much easier to apply.
argh lucky you !!! enjoy your holiday !!

Sonia, this post made me laugh. You have a great sense of fun. I loathe Mondays too – I go into shock…after being truly myself for two days, to then have to play Corporate Chick takes all my strength of character. And I hate the Monday Inquisition – how was your weekend, what did you get up to? I have to make stuff up as ‘went swatching/shopping for beauty products’ wears thin after a month of questioning, ha ha!
Your reference to Cruel Gardenia reminded me of a question I have for you. Do you have any of the Hourglass Ambient powders. I’m looking for a product to create that inner glow effect. I have Becca’s Moonstone Skin Perfecting fluid which is divine, but I want a powder product. No sparkles or strong shimmer and no obvious colour, just a glorious subtle glow. Something I could use during the day and that is buildable. What would you recommend? I know you have a post on highlighters – could it be one of those products? Thanks for your help, Guru.

PS Cruel Gardenia as a prize sounds brilliant πŸ˜‰
Best, Star X

haha πŸ™‚ I start depressing on Sunday afternoon thinking about Monday πŸ˜€ glad I am not alone !!!
I don’t have these, I wanted to but the Zuneta site didn’t have them so no luck to get them easily so far.
I am thinking of this http://en.rougebunnyrouge.com/make-up/complexion/highlighting-powder.html that’s the one I use for subtle application, yes here you find subtle ones : http://sweetmakeuptemptations.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/face.jpg

I’ve snapped up the RBR Sweet to Touch as it sounds perfect for my needs. Thank you!
PS You do look much younger than your age. I don’t think it’s the Power of Makeup but your inner beauty coming through. Although they do say, you’re as young as the man you feel πŸ˜‰ Note to self: get me a younger man, quick sticks.

OMG you killed me ! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I hope “he” is not reading πŸ˜€
my bf is nearly 8 years younger, but people think he is older than me (it just kills his mood and now he started to use high end skincare!!)
and he is afraid I may even want a younger one – makes me grin πŸ˜€

I have ups and downs just like anyone I guess but I think I forgot to grow adult and my childish attitude does help as well.

Half price for the LIU collection!? I often regret for not buying sth, but shops in my city simply remove those older launches, not to mention I see only anniversary sale at department stores.

Actually I am starting a rather risky cleaning method lately. I add lavendar essential oil (since I always think Tea Tree is too drying) in my baby shampoo liquid.

Another success for the looking so much younger “challenge”! I am interested in your latest skincare routine as well. And your list attracts my interest to Ellis Faas foundation again. About the Addition palette, I would say I have higher hopes for THREE, inspired by Kate’s writing.

I guess many of us may have books of Dante or have super passion for all kinds of tales and myths, in book, manga or movie form. Such naming inspiration works.

I have lots of questions (rather basic ones, I am afraid) to ask you or the other readers in the coming forum, more about makeup technique comparison, e.g. dark circle covering tips across brands. I also have nasty topics like, what is the favourite products/ rubbish products you know for different brands.
See? You have to chain me up to stop me from giving agressive comments.

Not to mention that I have a rather unpleasant discovery about the shop, cosxxxxnd, lately. Dangerous topic indeed.

Reply
Buggsiebee 8 August, 2013 - 6:03 am

What’s up with Cosxxxxnd Gladys?

Reply
Gladys L. 9 August, 2013 - 4:50 pm

I did a rather careless research (just go through 2 pages of google results in Chinese) about Cosxxxxnd. From what I have read from the forum comments, this shop sell genuine product and counterfeit together.

One of the posts shares the details of her experience in reporting to the Japanese police for a counterfeit product and claimed for compensation successfully (I read causally, didn’t check if the post is true or not).

Actually, the problem is well known by Japanese police as more and more people make reports for Rakuten stores. Even if you have checked the nationality of the shop’s legal owner, he or she may be a Japanese employed by Chinese or simply a Chinese using a Japanese name. Horrible.

People claims that Cosxxxxnd do offer genuine goods, but you still have to risk being offered unused samples or with unmistakable stickers or lack of proper packaging. Cosxxxnd are one of those shops that buy a whole lot of less fresh goods from worldwide source and offer them at a lower price, very similar to how shops like SaSa in Hong Kong (a major chain store for parallel goods) once operate.

I cannot say or judge that Cosxxxnd is at fault, as we should all be careful with online writings, and I don’t mean to do any harm or make any person feel bad, this is simply a summary of what I read this week.

p.s. as for the Shu U. natural #12 brush, um… it seems quite aged. But I can’t be sure, the MAs are too fierce for me to bring my own brush to compare with those in-store.

Reply
Buggsiebee 9 August, 2013 - 8:24 pm

Oh dear, that’s sad news πŸ™
I must confess that I notice no difference whatsoever between my Cosmeland Shu # 12 and the two I have from Spacenk.uk. Maybe I got lucky & mine is genuine.

Sweet make up temptations 9 August, 2013 - 9:15 pm

ohh sad πŸ™ there is always a risk, I am often willing to take the risk but we cannot always be sure 100%, sorry you had to experience that!

Gladys L. 10 August, 2013 - 9:00 am

Nevermind, Buggsiebee and Sonia. I feel nothing bad about it, I can still possibly own a genuine one, just kept for a longer time at storage maybe. I just write because I sincerely think these forum sharing are very important, as soon as the police is involved and the whole Rakuten atmosphere is changed.

This is my first Rakuten purchase using the Japanese system, it is funny for me to conquer a new online ordering system (I made screen captures). The brush is absolutely not goat or synthetic. I just feel the hair thickness is a little bit thinner than those in the store, and for the word “aged”, I mean the hair end is obviously darkened, like usual Itachi/ kolinsky brushes, the problem is that I have gone to 4 stores and none of the #12 natural has that Itachi/ kolinsky darker hair end, the color is the same from head to root of hair, tip to belly of the brush.

As for shops like Cosxxxxnd, counterfeit or genuine, it depends on batches. And when people shop at Japanese sites, if it is not specified as damaged or used, sale items doesn’t mean the good is aged or damaged, this is a strict classification system.

Tips for ladies even if you are shopping at the Shu U. counters: please immediately open the plastic bag and check for the wand integrity after you pay, see if the string in the packaging will leave a pressure mark at the lacquer coating.

p.s. as for the counterfeit issues, I will absolutely say NO to TAOBAO purchase of Bobbi brown, Trish McAvoy, MAC brushes, or any “left-over at factory” items.

Sweet Make Up Temptations 6 August, 2013 - 5:30 pm

You add the Lavender oil in your baby shampoo for the brush cleaning ?
My skincare is super simple, I really don’t do much so I don’t have much to say but my skin started looking better with the usage of Laura Mercier Repair creme. To a point where my cousin in Spain accused me from using botox or doing something to my skin. Not that we have anything against it at all πŸ™‚ I don’t have great skin, I have big pores and lots of pigmentation irregularities, as long as I leave a glowy finish on my skin I will look younger, but when I use the wrong skincare or foundation and my skin looses hydration, it gets really ugly. I will address the cleansing routine as well, it is planned but except for the Omororizca cleansing mask and the Bioderma water (plus waterproof make up remover for the eyes) I don’t do a lot.
I am always scared to read Kate, she is really inspiring with her writing and makes me drool on my table.

Oh don’t worry about these questions, I have them covered already, plus one that relates to this in “a second chance for the unloved” to find how we can make these work and reduce the regret factor.
The comments on the posts during the past year have been very useful to direct my categories to the most useful and fun topics we could cover (from the beginner to the collector, a bit more focussed on the anti-ageing, with a strong accent on more unknown brands and out of the box thinking. I told one colleague what I was doing and she loved the concept and theme, she thought it will be unique and really fun (I hope she is right). I am having so much fun preparing it, you don’t even imagine, even the writing of the general rules, simple ones but I can finally say out loud what I want to be able to share with my friends in a beauty forum and that is a truly liberating feeling πŸ™‚

Yes, I do use lavender oil in a cleansing liquid mix for the brush every time, honestly speaking, I wanna use Thyme EO instead (Melissa is even better, but too expensive).

I also test stuipidly with vegetable oils for brushes (started with jojoba, cause my camellia seed oil is too thick).

Have you heard of the news of the coming makeup line by Charlotte Tilbury? I am excited, I hope she would offer a decent e/s palette.

Tuxedo Moon looks lovely, I have a few Japan products I’m looking forward to picking up! I just picked up a copy of Biteki, a Japanese beauty magazine, after reading Kate from Drivelaboutfrivol’s post for it. OMG, salivating over the Fall 2013 collections!! This post made me smile, especially the last photo of the Smurf with the mirror and tweezer! Thanks for brightening up my week too with your writing πŸ™‚ The Dolly Wink liquid eyeliner is a staple in my bag, love how close it can get to the lashline and the precision that it gives. Nice score on the Guerlain there! Honestly, the only time I don’t feel ripped off buying makeup in Switzerland is when they have these 50% sales or when I buy drugstore brands like Essence and Catrice.

By the way, I’m off to London for a week this weekend, so if you need anything from there, please let me know! I’m definitely visiting Selfridges πŸ™‚

Hi Iris, the Smurf is holding a make up brush, an ebony miniature from Hakuhodo, the lights are awful so you can’t see well what it is, the pic was taken in a rush πŸ™‚
Funny because when we buy something here at 50% is often like paying the normal price in the USA, specially Mac, Chanel and Guerlain I find these brands extremely expensive. And I don’t even want to start mentioning the BB or Laura Mercier… the only brand that I believe has similar prices is By Terry in Marionnaud, other than that… it’s a rip off.
I heard they will start to sell TF beauty items in Zurich this fall, the Bon Genie counter told me but they don’t know more, still, going to Zurich is like going to London in terms of price and length !
Oh Iris yes yes yes, I may actually want something if you don’t mind. I will check that tomorrow (just to narrow the list to the strict minimum) !
so sweet, thank you <3

I love that you are dancing like a 3 yrs old in your office – it’s cool! There are enough adult ppl out there – I think we have to take care of our inner child!
I sometimes do childish things at work like unplugging some collegues mouse or changing their ringing tone (when they’re not at their desks), hiding some plastic spiders under the keyboard or inside their bags (for those of them with arachnophobia!).
I’m known for that at my work, so everytime something happens to somebody eyeryone is thinking that was ME – even if I wasn’t!

you are very cheeky :p specially if they always think it comes from you ! we all work in IT so you don’t even imagine the rainbow of IT joke possibilities. I can give you some ideas but they are a bit hardcore. One day we totally moved the desk of a colleague who was returning from holiday, we moved the name on his cubicle, we changed the name of the phone, etc etc, just like he didn’t exist anymore in the company. Just to mention that this same guy did many to us before… so we had to take revenge. It worked and it was so worth it, the look on his face when he came back and we all looked at him “omg, what are you doing here ? do they know you are here ?”
I had quite a few hysterical situations at work but if I don’t take it like that I won’t make it. Too stressful… πŸ™‚

OMG! Furbys were THE toy of sixth grade! I remember wanting, no, NEEDING one for Christmas, but we had so little money my mother kept saying no, and trying to convince me I didn’t actually want it, that it was a phase that would pass (because let’s face it, “it” toys come and go). She would always get presents at the last possible moment, so about two week before Christmas when she could no longer deny that I really did, really, really want one and she decided to succumb, they were all sold out, everywhere, every last one. I. Was. Devastated. And she felt horrible… Like the worst parent ever (which isn’t true, but I know that’s how she truly felt). I did eventually get one, the only one that was available two days after Christmas was the Y2K Furby (which I still have), I didn’t like its design and it was weird, wouldn’t play with other Furbys, but I felt bad saying, no, I don’t like or want that one (I actually wanted a green and beige one with dots), but I know she really tried and I didn’t want to make her feel any worse than she already did.

Ooh! I always feel like my day has been made if ever I buy wine at a grocery store I don’t usually go to and the cashier asks for ID. The thought that I could still pass for 17 is just too good :D.

I agree! 80s-90s… Shoulder pads, high waisted jeans, perms and dark, unkempt eyebrows :D. I’m quite happy with the current “anything goes” fashion. The last horrible trend I followed was the comeback of platform shoes in the late 90s with The Spice Girls :D, then the trends started changing so quickly I couldn’t keep up and stopped caring. The last horrible trend that I’m so happy went away was the comeback of the 80s sharp shoulder in jackets, which brought upon all kinds of weird shoulder designs in sequins and leather (thanks Gaga and Balmain). The two years this was “in” seemed to last forever. Now I’m hoping the nude, patent platform pump and Herve Leger bandage dress will finally fall out of favor, as well as the weird grunge on steroids thing Cara Delevingne is popularizing. But I’m also a tough critic, I generally like demure chic and quiet/casual cool…

Anyway, I do hate Mondays, like Garfield. But I think Wednesdays are worse. Usually by Wednesday I’m out of steam and on Thursday you’re thinking “just one more day, it’s almost over” and Friday you’re basically done, Wednesday is the half point of the week that’s just dreadful to me… Oh, it’s also today – greeeat :(.

As to your request for topics for the forum, I too would like to excange information on skincare in the forum. That’s a topic that I haven’t found covered anywhere. Especially effectiveness of creams. And I’m alarmed by some dermotologist doctors who claim that the creams really don’t do much, as many of the manufacturers mainly try to avoid doing harm. But a few things work, so it would be nice to exchange knowledge and experience in a structured way in a forum.

I was super surprised too when I learned you were over 40! You are very beautiful, especially your skin. ^_^ I have a baby face. I am 25, but people always think I am still a teenager. When my husband and I were in a casino, we were stopped a bunch of times to have our ID’s checked! I don’t mind it though.

What a fantastic compliment! It’s always a good way to turn a nasty Monday around :).
I remember Furbys! That is so cute, i can’t stand it.
And now i want to try the Laura Mercier Repair Cream! I totally would have passed that up had you not said you love it. It’s definitely a good enough recommendation for me!

Furby is a crazy thing to like but we have to have fun right ?! πŸ˜€
Try it before, it can feel very greasy, specially in summer. Today I wanted to buy my replacement since I finished mine but when I got to the only shop in Geneva where it’s sold the price increase was horrendous. I found a place in an online shop where I could order it only much cheaper, pheww ! If that cream is discontinued I am back to hell … I really need to find a similar one just in case.

I have painfully dry skin, which can be relieved only with one cream that I know of that you may want to try: The Biotherm Aquasource Biosensitive Rich: http://www.biotherm.com/catalog/subcategory.aspx?topcode=Category_Women_Face_Care_Moisturizers&rootcategory=WOMEN&menu=soins&catpath=AXIS_WOMEN_FACE_CARE#

I would like to find effective alternatives just in case, so I checked this cream out on your recommendation. The LM cream is not stated as a moisturizer for dry skin, so I wonder if it would work for me. Maybe I can have a sample sent with an order. (It is not sold in Denmark).

I was so excited yesterday when I saw this new site with this new layout! ^_^ Anxiously waiting for the forum but please don’t rush.

A sidetrack (sorry) but serious question for any passerby here:

If you happened to have done some medical checking that have to attach wires to your head, how do you remove those sticky and super devilishly greasy gel that was used to position the wires (don’t come off easily with shampoo)? My mother did have a test for Sleep Apnea 2 days ago, but her hair is still messed up by the formula…

my Monday has been Monday, and it’s totally a “meh” day ,i had a cold last week, and my lips got soooo dried out BUT hahaha …this is so funny and you just made my day πŸ™‚ + the cute blue Smurfs is just adorable

Tom Ford’s makeup counter opened last Feb at Jelmoli in ZΓΌrich and the price here is not as marked up as much as other brands/ some items with the same price as in the UK (For example, Blush Fr.79 ,brush 02 Fr.93 , brush 06 Fr.99 e/s brush Fr.79??, Eye Color Quad Fr.96 ,Trio Fr.79 ,lippies Fr.69 ) i’ll let you know if i’m going there in the near future πŸ™‚

Tom Ford is also available at ZΓΌrich Airport but at the moment, they only have the lippies & fragrances available in store
