It’s coming…

coming

Dear friends,

It’s time for a new beginning…

We have recently been talking about the possibility to have a forum here, also more flexibility with the plugins, or even a blog that would be easier to read or navigate. In order to achieve this I first had to move the blog to another host, find another design and migrate the content, these 3 steps have now been done, if all goes well the last adjustments will be done during the next days so you may experience weird behavior or service interruption.

But the worst thing is that this migration doesn’t come without consequences and that’s why I didn’t want to do it before, I wanted the transfer to be as smooth as possible but I am afraid there will still be some side effects to it.

The painful consequences will be :

  • Part of my subscribers (67 of them) might not transferred to the new website because these are wordpress subscribers and I have no possibility to export them. If you have subscribed to my blog via your wordpress account, I would be delighted if you could subscribe again once we have switched to the new site. For the other subscribers who entered your email address to subscribe, it shouldn’t be a problem hopefully, the subscriptions are moved too.
  • The likes on the posts may be lost too 🙁  if you did “like” my posts in the past, it won’t show again unless you repeat that step once we are in the new website.
  • The most recent comments (after 2nd August) are not migrated since the content is already in the new website, the switch might be done this weekend, I am not sure 100% since I still have a few bugs to correct and some topics that I can address only during the switch process, but it will definitely be up and running in the following days.
  • The links you may have created on your websites that point to my articles, might be broken, if you linked the main url “sweetmakeuptemptations.com” it will be fine but if it was to a specific post, it could be broken. I will try to correct that too but there are so many operations to do that I have to accept the casualties and fine tune as we go along…

The benefits will be :

  • It will be easier to read and navigate, well… I really hope so ! 🙂
  • I will be able to merge it with a forum, not immediately but in the coming weeks, one thing at a time since I would love to correct any bugs or problems with the main site first.
  • I wanted to create some sort of brush inventory or some brush databases but that cannot be done if I don’t move to a more customizable host. I have planned to do that in the following months.

I think that the longer I wait, the more difficult the migration so I thought it was now or never and despite the painful consequences. The final design is in place, I will add some more plugins afterwards and a few bits and pieces but I hope that the transition will be smooth for you and that you stay in the community !

You can comment in this post if you want to, although this post will not be migrated I will be able to reply to you here during the transition, or you can contact me by email if you have specific beauty related questions. The new site will keep the same address www.sweetmakeuptemptations.com

You are the “wordpress blog type” subscriber, part of the ones that are not exportable to a list but I found your public email in your gravatar (the one linked to your wordpress blog) so I can add you manually in the imported subscribers ! 🙂
I’ll do the same for the other subscribers when they have put their public address in their gravatars.

Good luck Sonia. Hope it all goes well. I can’t imagine your blog being even more fabulous than it is!

It’s funny, I’m reminded of you when I wear something I know you love and I had to tell you, eg. today I wore RMK’s Coral Beige blush trio (incredibly delicate but with an amazing finish). Thanks for your recommendation. I have no friends who are really into Objets de Beaute as I call them, so it’s good being able to share with you (and your readers).

Best, Star.

Thank you Star Girl, I hope it will be even more fun 🙂
So sweet 🙂 it’s very rewarding to get feedback from you, whatever the feedback it’s always very helpful. That’s why we are all here !

I often wonder how people who have no IT background actually keep their blogs up & running. Pretty complicated & frustrating stuff!
Your blog has grown immensely in a relatively short time though. I guess not all bloggers are faced with all the technical challenges that you are having to manage? There aren’t many / any blogs out there with such an active comments section. Did you ever dream that your blog would become SUCH a huge success?
It’s NO surprise though with the amount of heart you put into it.
And just so that you know, even if I don’t leave comments that much lately, I’m still your # 1 fan! I think you’re amazing!!
My dog Oli hates fire works too by the way. I have a very low futon bed and in his terror he somehow manages to sqeeze underneath it, but later he can’t get out 😛

It is frustrating, even if I am in the IT field the web side of it is pretty unknown to me, it takes a lot of patience and perseverance! If you want something plain and functional it’s easy but when you want a bit more functionality it takes much more effort.
No Buggsie, I never thought it would grow like that and specially the commenting section, you were with me since the very beginning, even before the blog started, remember ? When I told you I was thinking of doing it you said that I should and that you would totally follow 🙂 and you’re still here ! How is that for a friendship ?? just amazing. Thank you !!
Poor Oli ! another one terrified 😀 oh I had a dog that did just like Oli, then it was stuck underneath and we had to push him out 😀
Yesterday Tess was so stuck in a corner I thought part of her made a hole in the wall !!!

Wow what a huge/time intense work you are doing 😀
Sometimes i’m thinking you have supernatural powers like in movies where the hero can stop the time to save someone 😀
So you are stopping the time , so you have enough time for you blog and all the comments 😀

So excited and happy for you! I think you have to admit that it is partially your “fault” for engaging with us readers, because without you being so lovely and accommodating to us all, you wouldn’t have had to worry about the comments section expanding so much 😛 It is because of how patient and willing you are with us to answer questions and follow up on everything that really has helped you form a community here 😛 And of course, everyone else for jumping in and providing their opinions and advice so that all of us are connected to each other as well 🙂

Congratulations!

Loving the extended comments feed 🙂
Do you have a ‘follow’ button hidden anywhere?
I can’t ‘like’ you because I don’t do Facebook 🙁

Ok, something peculiar is going on with the comments section. I left a short reply & then wanted to say more ( as ususal ) but after my first reply I had to use a different email addy to be able to leave another comment because the system just voided my second comment and told me my address already existed in your database. Do I need to ‘follow’ you/ subscribe again or what’s the prob?

Hi Buggsiebee,
yes.. I know 🙁 that wasn’t a “one-click” migration, I am on it, I noticed that so far there are still to solve :
The posts that contain tables
The follow buttons, the likes buttons
The comments (exactly what you mention)
I keep you updated when it should be ok and if you don’t mind to test it on your side it would be great…
On the other hand, the DNS propagation hasn’t yet complete, so you are maybe the only one who can reach it for now, most of the computers are probably still pointing to the old that I closed … gosh that migration is painful ! I hope it will be worth it !
thank you so much for your feedback !

Hi Sonia. New site looks great!
Some feedback re my login experience with the new site. When I tried to access your URL this morning, I was advised that it’s a private site now only open to members (I can’t remember the exact words but something to that effect) and that I would need to sign in otherwise it wouldn’t let me in. It didn’t recognise my already registered WordPress email address and password so I all I could was register again but it prompts you to register as a blog author (which I did, although I won’t be authoring a blog). After that, I could then access your site. Not sure if any other WordPress users encountered this and may not have registered yet being a little unsure.

A devilishly fun beauty hub – I’ll say! 🙂
Best, Star

Hi Star Girl,
Thank you !
I know… actually this is what happens when you move a site to another host there are a few tasks that may involve interruption.
The window you were getting was from the other site that I had to block until my address (sweetmakeuptemptations) was propagated worldwide and could point to only one destination : my new host and website.
the cache on each internet provider had to be refreshed and that can take up to 48 hours I have been told, it will depend on each computer how long this process has taken, even for me it took nearly 20 hours. After that process the privacy window is automatically removed since it means it points to the correct website.
I am glad I don’t move often because this is a very painful process, very very far away from a simple click and move 🙂
“devilishly” was my bf’s idea 😀 that matches pretty well with “temptations”…

I guess you are still developing on the site.
I miss your brands and products list to chose among, and I miss a “home” button in the top menu.
