After a marathon schedule at work, finally good news : a two-day break with sunny weather ahead and a brand new discovery to share !
You may remember my recent post about Serge Lutens, when I was researching for Serge Lutens style looks I found this article about Evgeny, it was the first time I read about him but if he has Serge Lutens as an icon, he can only be good, right ? Right.
Evgeny is a Russian makeup artist internationally recognized, please hop to the About page on his website to see his career path. Below a picture of him during one event. I love his style and wish it was me sitting there with him 🙂
My mission is to hunt and test new treasures for you to splurge on with confidence whenever you feel like. I have contacted Evgeny Cosmetics to ask a few questions about the brushes to get a bit more info about the hair -I hadn’t realized that when you mouse over the brushes the details are dynamically displayed on the left ! Never mind… I am really glad I contacted them !
During my first emails I did not know it was Evgeny himself replying to me, so I told them I was pleased to see that they knew their products so well and then he said :
This is Evgeny writing to you. I guess I need to know everything about
my product, right? (but I don’t remember the nicknames of every goat I
sheered:)
We have exchanged quite a few emails already, always promptly replying to me, this man has a great sense of humor, is talented, respectful and created a wonderful make up brush collection.
You know my private brush collection is quite big, well, more “diverse” than big actually, but sometimes I can still be amazed, how great is that ? when you think you have seen it all… you find little wonders like these.
I often discuss new discoveries with my friends and followers behind the scenes 🙂 “have you tried this, do you have that, what do you think? etc…” My friend Nikoleta sent me an email on Nov.7th, 2012, “have you heard/tried Evgeny brushes ?” Nikoleta is the reason why I found Koyudo in the first place, then of course I had to go totally crazy about Koyudo and their insane gorgeous creations. This time Nikoleta was asking for my opinion but I hadn’t tried the Evgeny brushes at that time and I had totally forgotten about her email until this week when I was searching for “Evgeny” in my emails and found her email hiding in the past… 🙂
It’s not that I don’t want to try all the brushes in the world, but my budget has limits. Today I focus more on making small orders to try a brand than ordering the full set without having properly seen the product before, mistakes that I made in the past !
I ordered the 3 blue squirrel brushes from Evgeny, the Polina, the Blending and the Crease. Since I ordered with the cheapest shipping option and no insurance he sent me an email with the info of the parcel, they were shipped from Canada on the 5th of April and they reached me on the 11th of April.
When I read this interview, I see at least 3 points we have in common : 1) our love for Serge Lutens, 2) the importance of mascara, and 3) we don’t want to work for companies and have to promote something we don’t really believe in.
I don’t know him personally, I never met him yet I feel extremely close to him. The reason is probably because the design of his brushes feels like we have the same vision and needs, I only got 3 brushes in my first order so I can only talk about these 3 today but I have already ordered the rest of the available collection online.
The handles are made of ebony wood, they are short and easy to carry, they feel solid, they remind me of the Hakuhodo Kokutan range, compared to the Kokutan it’s the same quality, the Polina blush brush is longer and thinner than the Kokutan e/s L. The Blending and the Crease do not have similar options in the Hakuhodo line.
Here two Kokutan and two Evgeny :
The Polina brush
I am in love with the Hakuhodo Kokutan e/s L but it has even been perfected with this Polina, if you liked the Kokutan e/s L but you wanted a softer and less dense version of it, this is the one to go for.
The Polina’s hair is approx 4mm longer than the Kokutan therefore it has a bit more flexibility and makes it more fool-proof and easy to use with different products.
In terms of softness and quality, the hair is similar to the Fine Kalla, but a bit softer than the Kokutan.
I love tiny little brushes, just like the Hakuhodo, the Tanseido is meant to be an eyeshadow brush but I use them on the cheeks, for sculpting, blush, highlight, setting powder. If you are in the hunt for little cheek brushes, I totally recommend you the Polina brush, with the Fine Kalla they are the most multi-purpose of the group, but the Polina being more flat at the surface and less flexible than the KK-002 it can provide better blending and better control.
I add the RMK cheek (full squirrel) close to them, this one is also a winner in terms of multi-tasker but as you can see it’s much bigger than the other 4.
The Blending brush
The hair of the blending brush is not as soft as the Polina but is more similar to the Kokutan brushes. This makes it more efficient for blending yet soft enough to use on my eyelids. What I love about it is the size and shape, just pointy enough to deliver more precise blending than the ones I currently use and big enough to be able to work fast on larger areas.
That’s the type of brush I was looking for since 2008 ! I have no words to explain how much I love it, a brush that has enough density without sharp edges during application, finally someone got it right ! It’s a big day for me, you don’t even imagine how much I have been looking for this one. Finally a brush that you truly can use as multi-purpose, with which you can highlight or contour without the sharp edges and the heavy blending required or the careful building of product, this one is so easy to use and you will do so many things with it, totally worth every penny.
I have similar options but this brush is unique. It’s something in between the Hakuhodo 212 and the Hakuhodo G5524, less densely packed, more suitable for efficient soft blending without the drawback of removing too much product in the process. The Kokutan T is like its little baby, they do not offer the same functionality though, the Kokutan is more adequate for precise outer V.
The other goat blending brushes I use (Edward Bess, Chomotto) are efficient but too scratchy for my eyelids, I use them but not on a daily basis, it’s depends on the sensitivity of my skin. The Edward Bess is the most similar in terms of size and efficiency but it doesn’t have the softness of the Evgeny.
The Hakuhodo J214R is in this picture for comparison purposes, it’s about the same hair length and width but the Evgeny blending brush is more dense, the J214R starts to be thinner at the middle of its hair length unlike the Evgeny which remains full till the point.
The Crease brush
The hair quality is very good, not as soft as the Chikuhodo Z-series or Suqqu brushes but I often receive emails from women looking for soft brushes but “not too soft”, mentioning that too soft brushes do not deliver enough blending or heavy application, that is true, it’s better to find the right balance between softness and efficiency, which is right where this brush belongs.
My HG are the Tom Ford 13 and the Nars 12, I can’t stop talking about these two can I… well this crease brush is located right in between the two in terms of precision and softness.
This Evgeny crease brush is softer than : the Nars brushes, the Trish 29, the Paula Dorf, the Mac 226, the Rae Morris 8, the Louise Young but it’s not as soft as the Hakuhodo S 142 or the G5522.
Some crease brushes are not tapered enough for me, others are too pointy and therefore not dense enough at the point, but this shape is very clever, the density is sufficient, it’s not too floppy, not too pointy. I wouldn’t mind if it was a bit softer since my eyelids are a pain but I can use it even better and more softly than the two Nars brushes and the application is much more pleasant than with the Nars. The softer options I own are the Hakuhodo S 142 and the G5522 but the S 142 is too floppy and the G5522 too big for the crease. Again this brush is easy to use, just like the Blending one and the Polina, so they are fantastic also for beginners.
I have only these 3 brushes to show you for now, but I did order the rest of the brushes made of goat and sable. I’ll be able to show you comparisons with the Shu Uemura brushes and since recently I have been loving and enjoying the efficiency of “soft” goat brushes I’ll be able to tell you if Kashmir goat hair is soft enough for delicate skin.
More about Evgeny
Since I had the chance to get a direct contact with the “creator” himself, I just couldn’t stop there 😉
I have asked him a few questions for our pleasure and knowledge, below an exclusive little precious interview with Evgeny :
Me: Where are your brushes assembled ? do you have a team helping you ?
Evgeny : I am receiving brushes in parts and assemble them personally as I have orders from clients and stores (same with KISSETTES).
Everything you see on Facebook page is more creative, “feathery” and fancy (as everybody likes different things). I was making few sets to match interior of the “private jet”,boudoirs or shoes, whatever client likes:)
I have basics BLACK/BROWN sets and most custom made orders I create is more colorful or just when I have new ideas and feel like make one right away (just like in life:)
The “small dome” shape will fit all “eyelid area” and will give perfect blending and smoothing any color “challenges”.
Sometimes companies changing manufactures and there are new hands and new standards, it is all personally.
****
That’s it for the questions, I hope this was helpful for you, it was such fun getting to know him a bit better.
In regards to the order, I placed it on his website, paid with paypal. Once this is done, he contacts you to ask you what shipping you would like and sends you the invoice for the selected shipping accordingly (starts from 10 cad, I have chosen the cheapest shipping option of approx 10cad and the envelop arrived in a week).
They were wrapped in silk paper with a sticker that he signed :
They come with a few leaflets and instructions :
You know that I am fighting with the renovation works at home, trying to prepare a studio for me and my brushes, I found the furniture I want to install but since the room is in pieces at the moment there is no way I can start moving in there. When it’s ready, I want to put a thin and long white dresser (or vanity?) not sure how you call these in English, it’s shiny and lackered, very sleek but simple and I have the intention of getting one of these feathery Kissettes for the decoration :
A colorful one, red or white feathers depending on the “final look” of the room 😉
And just for pleasure, you can have a final look at the gorgeous Evgeny in action 😉
I’ll keep you informed about the other brushes that I ordered. If you have any questions related to any of the brushes mentioned in these pictures, please just let me know, as always, I’ll be happy to help.
I sincerely want to thank Evgeny for his time and for authorizing me to use his pictures, I wish him all the very best and I am eagerly awaiting his cosmetic line.

yes Mimi, very much indeed 😛
OH MY OH MY!!!…These seem to be calling my name! i’m not sure i can trust myself and i alway can’t resist for long
Thanks for another great post Sonia. 😉
Hi, you are welcome 🙂 I couldn’t resist getting the other ones … I am no better than you !
What beautiful brushes! The crease brush looks perfect for me and the blending brush looks great as well. My need to buy list just keeps expanding.
Funny because there aren’t many brushes but all look spot on and really efficient, can’t wait to get the rest of the family and let you know !
Wow! That is impressive! I mean you for the great discovery and him for the work
he does. I think I will order those 3 brushes first like you did.
Thanks for all the Infos you’re sharing…
you are very welcome Maria, really glad it helps! please do let me know if and how they worked for you, it’s always useful to get feedback from you all.
The brushes look great and right in my backyard! I will be hopping into the stores they sell them in on Monday to take a look.
Cheers Sonia 🙂
Sonia, for a surprise, it is a big one indeed 🙂 I’m glad these were finally as good as they looked on the website; there was a russian blog talking about them and raving some years ago but now his brushes will finally get more attention. And what a pleasure for the eyes to see the man behind.
😀 😀 😀 told you ! I am really pleased and as I said I hope the sable and goat ones are as good !
THANK YOU ! bisous !
Ah Sonia! I love the look of these brushes and love the background you were able to provide! Thank you for the introduction 🙂 Off to check out the website again 🙂
xo Stacy
hey Stacy,
It was fun 🙂 you are welcome !!
Awesome post, Sonia! Will be looking into the crease brush and Kissettes’ pouches.
Really enjoy your blog which finds out about so many hidden gems! Through it, I have gotten to know so many brands, more about brushes and started my own growing collection. (:
Please keep me posted, let me know what Kissette you selected 🙂
and thanks again !!
Why why why must you do this to me Sonia?! I went on his FB page and I must have that sable foundation brush!! 0_0
I don’t own a sable foundation brush, his will be my first 🙂
The brushes look softer, accurately shaped and better made than ones under large labels! Definitely interested in his eye brushes.
Lt’s a warm and lovely idea to name the brush line with his dauggter’s name.
I mean tge Polina brush, not the whole line, sorry
Do you mind tellingthe area of faces you would use the blending brush for? I am too lack of experience to know something about a doom shaped brush as large as it. It would be lovely if it can excel the function of Paula Dorf sheer crease also.
Areas of the face :
eyes : all-over, crease, blending (compared to the Paula Dorf I find it softer, you can put a little bit more pressure where needed, also less “fall-outs” than with the Paula Dorf, sometimes the powder is projected when I use crease brushes like the PD, I prefer to have less elasticity and more firmness and density in a crease brush). I love very soft looks, I need a LOT of blending.
Contour : you can contour the nose (along the sides), the cheekbones, the temples, without having edges to the application and since it’s small the sculpting is more subtle and precise)
Highlight : perfect for the cupid’s bow (around the lips), the bridge of the nose, I mean anywhere you want to highlight! I don’t like big highlighting brushes because my skin will be glowy already, I just need to focus more on small zones.
Setting : I like small powder setting brushes since I will be setting my makeup in tiny zones (concealer, spots, etc)
It’s an example, I don’t know if that answers your question !
Wayne has a lot of videos on the subject on youtube, I just find it so much easier now that I have the right brush. Please let me know if you want some links.
I am not going into all that heavy work, but I follow the same ideas, just in a more subtle way for a daily use..
Thx for your detailed tips!
I also watch Wayne a lot. I especially love his demonstration of using cream contour or deeper foundation shade for contour.
I guess that you like Evgeny the blending brush much more than Z series’ candlelight when you are using product on face.
But how do you compare for eye blending between using the Evgeny crease brush and Evgeny blending brush?
For me it’s just a matter of precision in blending, if you want a more defined application and blend with more strength in a limited area then the crease brush is more appropriate, if you want a more soft all over blending the appropriate brush would be the Blending one.
yes I do like the blending for more subtle contour in small areas, I have to admit that my lighting for the moment is terrible and this brush is more forgiving and easy to use, on the other hand I won’t apply contour every where every day !
Oh , your photos are perfectly fine, I can always count on them. I just saw somebody posting a blending illustration video for neutral cooors at youtube, I can understand better about the different shapes of crease/ blending brush now.
You are one of the most modest people around me : )
It’s good to hear that your dog issue is likely to be solved now, although I am clueless to Pet Care 101. I understand how awful one feels for doctor-not-kniwing-tge-answer situations.
It’s not easy to find the right brushes, it took me a long time and you know, it’s not because a blogger or a makeup artist loves this or that, that you will love it too, unfortunately it depends on too many factors, all we can do is help a little bit, but it’s difficult to go straight to the perfect ones when you can’t feel and try them yourself 🙁
The terrible thing is that pets can’t talk and barely complain… you have to be very “aware” of their behavior change, thanks a lot for all your support !!
This lucky guy is getting more gorgeous with age!
I most definitely need some of his magic.
Thanks to Nikoleta & to you Sonia for the intro to his range.
P.S. Did you notice that Beautybay is stocking a number of the more HTF makeup ranges now?
oh waw, RBR, EB, LMdB…. thanks !
Is beautybay a good place to shop (good customer service and good delivery service)? I was a bit sad about iherd’s free delivery and feelunique’s packaging service. People also raise concern for freshness of products for online shops.
Never had a problem so far ! sometimes I am surprised that palettes arrived in a piece when I shop online, some packaging is often ignored, but I don’t remember having that problem with Beautybay…
what choice can I have ? here were I live there is not much from what I love the most !
I just cross finger for this year’s beauty habit sale, so I can shop at a lower price than buying from the brand directly (yes, I do know the brand offers free international shipping for 120 euro orders, but I am not that attracted to RBR and people like Isun from beautyhabit as well, lovely to buy them together.
But I appreciate RBR offical site for giving samples of 3 highlighter liquid shades, that was done by Zuneta only.
Dear Sonia and all,
I immediately ordered the blending brush!!!!!!! Thank yu again for making me discovering a new brand!!
By the way, I used yesterday for the first time the G5522: it has been a revelation!! I didn’t know brushes that could be so soft on the eye!!!
By the way did you see that real techniques has a limited edition 3 brushes?
Have a great sunny sunday!!!!!!!!
Hi Laurence !
That’s going to make him happy 🙂
Yes the first day I realized that there were so soft brushes out there it was a big day 😀 the beginning of a huge love story !
thanks, I’ll check that out !
it’s warm here !!! can’t believe it !!! have a lovely day too !
Thank you for that ahhhh-mazing review! Not only do the brushes seem efficient and beautiful, but it seems was if Evgeny is dedicated to his craft, and a genuine person. Perfect!
Now… let me go click on that link to his store :S
I just saw Evgeny’s shout-out to you (and Bea’s comment afterwards) on FB! He’s so sweet!
I’m now resolved to save up for a Kissette… yeah, no-buy, here we go again!!! Maybe my tax return at the end of the financial year can go towards a Kissette… I wouldn’t mind one in red leather…. or maybe I should just stick with black!
(Oh a completely random note, I feel like I’ve missed a lot in the last few days I’ve been away. The reason being…I’ve been super depressed because I can NOT find my Chanel Notorious. I’ve looked everywhere in my room, I even tidied my room, and I can’t find it, and neither can my friend who looked again for me 🙁 I hate losing things – I once overturned my room to find a PEN haha – and I simply have no idea where it is. Totally put me off using makeup the last few days. Sighhh….)
I wasn’t expecting his mention on the FB, that’s really kind of him.
I was thinking of you and the no-buy resolution… 😀 sorry….
It often happens to me, looking for a brush is not easy either, can be anywhere ! during my works everything is upside down 🙁
could it be in a hidden pocket ? (this one is efficient 99% of time for me) good luck ! hope you find it !!!
Shhhh >< Two of my friends are in a no-buy pact with me for 3 months. Whenever someone breaks it, they have to fund $50 each to the other two for their purchases once the no-buy is off :S that may motivate me. And I might actually be able to save up for a Kissette…
He seems like such a great person. Thank you for introducing us to him!
Sighhh, I've checked everything 🙁 I haven't worn makeup in a few days because I can't bear to look at anything and notice it's disappearance because Notorious is a daily part of my routine… well, in alternation with the TF S&I.. but still… 🙁
Wow, these brushes look mighty. And I love the kissettes… looks gorgeous but at the same time functional. O o…
Yes they look amazing, I hope that someone can report about them 🙂 maybe someone has one already ?
I wonder if he would ship by DHL to Myanmar (the only ones who deliver here, turns out, sigh)….
Sonia, what a wonderful post, once again!!!! And as always, you make us all want to get those wonderful brushes (and Kissette!!!) and enjoy them with you 🙂
Glad the weather is finally turning, and just lovely reading all of you ladies here 🙂
Sorry I’ve been so MIA – been desperately looking for my new home (alas, no success yet), while spending 10 hours a day at work and taking it all in! It’s been pretty intense, and still is, but except for the shopping (or rather lack thereof), it’s been all good :). But the shopping… Sigh… It’s just hopeless :(. On the bright side, every new purchase I will make when I get to travel will be very well thought through, and I’m definitely going to get a lot of use of everything I already have :). So far, I’ve mainly been wearing my Guerlain nude bronzer (for as long as I can and before I become too dark for it), and loving the pink as a very subtle blush. In terms of eyeshadow, I’ve been wearing my SL (and with the fine Kalla, I find it very possible to apply sheerly and office appropriately), Prelude, and Suqqu EX-12. I think that Suqqu EX-12 has become my favorite palette EVER, I just absolutely love it and always find it very flatering without being over the top. It just makes me feel great (and happy) every time I wear it. I think that it unexpectedly and beautifully sets off my olive green eyes and makes them pop in a non-obvious way (do i make sense??). I wouldn’t have gotten it if it hadn’t been for you Sonia, thank you 🙂
Of course, I could say that of a number of things, LOL
Hugs to all of you ladies, and Mimi, I still owe you an email (at least!) – it will be coming in the next few days, I promise!!
Hi Neo!!! So glad to hear about your most recent exploits. 🙂
Since Sonia has kindly sabotaged my brush wishlist once again with a brand that is actually available in my neck of the woods, I think I might take a trek to one of the stores that carries it this week. I am intrigued by their foundation brush so I must see it at least. I know Melissa will probably be interested in it too lol. 🙂 🙂 I have ‘liked’ their FB page since they have a ton of pics there.
LOL Bea!!! U know me so well 🙂
Yesss….I long for the foundation brush badly 🙂
Think I have developped a sable/kolinsky brushes addiction lately.
Will wait for Sonia’s review first 🙂
Oh goodie Neo, can’t wait to hear from you!
Hi Neo, I’ve been meaning to email you to see package received! But it’s been busy, busy, busy here. I’ll send you an email later haha.
Did I tell you I also ordered Ex-12 🙂 Liz from So Lonely In Gorgeous is doing a CP for me, with some Addiction and THREE products, so I threw in the Suqqu Ex-12 haha. Ooooops… It’s in the mail right now, so hopefully, I’ll receive it soon!
I can tell you that I just can’t wait to be in Tokyo !!! all these brands that I want to try !!!
Hi Neo,
happy to hear from you !
thanks for your feedback on the EX-12, I have to say that it’s absolutely a must-have. I hope you are loving the Prelude, I wish I did not make you regret the Armani 🙁
I also hope you will find a new home and you will enjoy your career over there, such a brave adventure !! keep us posted 🙂
Bonnie, what a good idea!
“Shhhh >< Two of my friends are in a no-buy pact with me for 3 months. Whenever someone breaks it, they have to fund $50 each to the other two for their purchases once the no-buy is off."
This means that you'll be increasing your purchasing pleasure tremendously, because you're REALLY living the anticipation stage of buying.
Have you decided what will be your first buy yet?
It’ll probably be one of the Kissettes now…. all the mini purchases that I (hopefully) won’t be making in the meantime will go towards a lovely Kissette + brush set! Or maybe just some of the brushes… :S
I am also interested in that foundation brush, after Bea and Melissa started talking about Kolinsky type foundation brushes! And Evgeny seems like such a wonderful person – all the more reason to support the brand…
Yes PLEASE!!!
http://www.barneys.com/Serge-Lutens-Beaute-Eye-Shadow-Palette-2/00505027349908,default,pd.html?cgid=womens-cosmetics&index=7
oh yes !
ok, not available at Serge Lutens website(s) yet 🙁
did you already see it somewhere else than Barneys ?
I wrote to Serge Lutens this morning asking when it will be available from their shop, but haven’t heard back yet. Will let you know.
I’ve ordered from Barneys because there were some CdP items I wanted too.
I hope that this palette will be as good as the #1.
How are you liking the blush #2 btw?
how did you order from Barneys ? do you have a secret ? last time I tried it was catastrophic, they debited my cc twice and never processed the order 🙁
I will let you know about the blush tonight !
Had “pet problems” again this weekend… argh…. had to take her to the vet, apparently it’s just a tomy bug and dehydration… but she really looked awful, to be honest, I thought that was it.
Poor you & your poor dog 🙁
I hope that she’s feeling better today!
As to Barneys, I have no secret 😉
I do find that when I change the currency to euro and then pay with paypal that the process is NOT particularly smooth though. The purchase seems to get stuck and although you click the proceed button, nothing happens. It appears to work better when you just leave the currency in $ and pay with credit card.
yes she is thank you !
well my cc never works (so it’s says on their website (only on their website)…)
I have tried just now and got the error msg, then of course I imagine they have debited like the last time and I have to call my bank later to check and retrieve the money back 🙁
argh, never mind ! I’ll get it later on.
Since I am a lot into smokey and greys, I think I may love this new palette !
the blush 2 is… so far… to die for. I’ll still have to try it again, sometimes I can really only see the final result in daylight.
I can see “matte glow”, glow that doesn’t shout makeup, cheeks that shout “eat me” and innocence at the same time gosh… I sound creepy-crazy right now so I need to double check that tomorrow !! but it’s very fair ! I’ll keep you updated !
Buggsiebee you are a bad one!!! My temptress friend you must have a sixth sense for these new items!! Needless to say………..
Sonia, I am so sorry about Tess! How is she doing today? Doesn’t Barney’s take pay pal internationally? Their online customer service is fantastic if you want to place the order on the phone… 8882227639 😉
I am desperate, she is not much better at all, but they say it’s just a tomy bug, she lost a lot of weight and doesn’t eat at all. She has to take a ton of medicine and if tomorrow she is not better we’ll have to do a perfusion to feed her.
I am not sure about Barneys, the last time I called them they said “no we don’t accept international cc” and never mentioned paypal 🙁 I mean, they were kind but they kept saying that my card could not work with USA (but I have always used it there and it was always debited by Barneys… each time I clicked on “order”… even though they said it wasn’t working, it was…
Don’t worry, I’ll see that when I have some more time and patience… thank you so much for your help!
Oh Sonia I am so sorry! Let me know how it goes with her….
After Tess is better we will get you your SL eye palette. Your description of the blush is quite accurate ;p. The “bite me” blush 🙂
Xoxo
I’m worried about your dog Tess. Did you have a scan done? She was ill fairly recently so I’m concerned. Is she eating something in the yard that she shouldn’t have? A poison plant or some animal (squirrel) that she’s caught or perhaps a rat poisoned by a neighbor could have died in the yard and she ate it and got the rat poisoning in her? A diseased bird? Trash? Bad water from a nearby creek? Plant spray? Fertilizer? Sometimes dogs dig up flower bulbs and eat those. There is so much that is in our yards that could be bad for a dog that we don’t necessarily realize could be a danger to them. You don’t have any neighbors that might be mad at her barking or going in their yard and could have poisoned her, do you? You never know about people these days. I will send Tess good energy when I meditate tonight.
Thank you so much Mimi. To be honest yes, I admit I have a bad neighbor that poisoned our tree some months ago (yes people is that bad, the world is crazy). Tess was away in France for holidays with my mother in law, she came back on Saturday, she must have eaten something bad there in the fields, but no idea what.
They did all analyses possible and all is good, it’s just a bad gastro and dehydration, so I make sure she drinks and I give her the medecine the vets recommended.
She will be fine, she looks awake, she stands up and wants to play tonight, very good sign although no way she wants to eat !
Thank you so much again, really truly appreciate all your sweet words !
Thank goodness she’s going to be OK. You may want to try feeding her baby food meat in the little glass jars. That’s what my mom would do for her cats when they wouldn’t eat. I know it’s bad but when our dogs won’t eat, we give them a little hot dog or bacon to get their appetites going. What is Tess’s favorite food? Cheese perhaps, or egg?
I have tried to cook her meet and chicken but anything with smell puts her off !
and she never cared about food, never ever ! just about her ball ! 🙁
See!!…..I said that I’m not a ‘darling’.
I’m a monster 😉
Neo mentioned it before she left for sunny Myanmar & I’ve been stalking the Serge Lutens site & Barneys, just waiting for this palette ever since!
I didn’t order the ‘Bite’ Blush from Barneys though because I can get it much cheaper from SL direct. I find it strange that Barneys has their new eye shadow palette listed before they do!?
Gosh, you are a monster !!! NOOO !
Stacy send me pictures of it, I am really lemming it now 🙁 it’s more lavender than grey… ouch !
I was wearing the bite me blush today, nobody has bitten me but I could see temptation in their eyes 😀 😀 😀
What is this “bite” blush you’re talking about, I am intrigued now!
it’s the Serge Lutens number 2, this one here in the middle : http://sweetmakeuptemptations.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/slblushers.jpg
I have a review coming on it 🙂
Oh goodie! Let us see it on you. It really helps when you model things. I’m tellin’ ya girl, you look like you are 28 years old.
Mimi, it really makes my day when someone tells me I look like I have 28 years old 😀
I remember the 80’s, I was 15 and I looked 40 ! really did ! today I am glad this is over, I do look younger than I did 20 years ago, can you believe it ?? 😀
When I think about that, I really believe everything is possible. When I was 20, if you had told me that at 40 I would look more “desirable” (or whatever we can call that) than I did at 20, I would never have believed it ! but I am afraid it’s so true… 🙁
Yes I will show it to you on my cheeks, I hope that despite the lighting you will be able to see the flush it provides. I am trying to find dupes at the moment, the closest I found is Bobbi Brown Nude Peach 28, other lighter option is Nars Sex Appeal (but this one is a chalky mess). Nothing adheres better than the Serge Lutens, it’s like a second skin, but I’ll keep you posted soon 🙂
They ARE gorgeous brushes!
Do you want me to get it for you? Just mail me your order.
no thank you darling, I’ll wait 🙁 thank you so much for the offer, really appreciate it !
Heh, Heh….one thing you can be sure about me is…..I ain’t no ‘darling’ 😀
Next time there’s anything interesting at Barneys we should perhaps do a combined order & have it all sent to me & then ( as our postage is cheaper than your Swiss rip-off prices ) I can pass your stuff on to you.
You are fierce and ferocious 😀
yes we should do that, or maybe I can find another way, how did you use paypal with them ? is it that complicated ?
I’ve just run through the order process again to check what I do:-
Once you decide to checkout, they ask for your international location using a drop down list. Then you move on to the next window where they have calculated your total ( with the exhorbitant shipping & customs fees!!! ) As you get into this window a little pop up aks you whether you want to change the currency to Francs. If you chose this alternative then:-
”All prices, shipping and taxes will be converted into the new currency.
Note: PayPal would be available as an additional payment option if you change currency.
After that you proceed directly using PP ( click on the PP button at the top and don’t fill anything else out on that page!! )
I hope this works for you.
thank you Buggsiebee, I will call my bank just to make sure they haven’t debited my card, then I’ll call the shop where they sell SL here (but they have only very little items), and then if they price is more interesting in Barneys I’ll order.
I think I may love these colors a lot !
Just came back from a store with the Evgeny blending brush and foundation brush. I might go back for the crease. I would have picked it up too were it not for the fact that I had a new She 5R brush sitting quite contentedly in my handbag. :X
plizzz Bea, let me know what you think of them ! I wish I could go to shops with this kind of brands in them !
oh the Shu 5R, I am so happy with mine too 🙂
OMG the SA at the Shu counter showed me the Shu #15 brush and swatched eyeshadow with it… divine application! However the price was insane lol. She told me only the 5R, 15, 11 and 10F are pure kolinsky. Is that correct?
Sonia I am really liking the blending brush! I normally use the large Kokutan eyeshadow paddle bursh for blending but that function might be usurped by the Evgeny lol. The Kokutan and G5527 feel a little bit softer than the Evgeny blending brush but it is still soft. I used the foundation brush with the sample of the Burberry you sent me on one side of my face and the Artisan & Artist brush on the other. It seemed that the Evgeny applied a slightly heavier layer of foundation than the A&A. The Evgeny has thicker hair but the A&A is wider than the former as you will see in my comparison pics. The Evgeny also has more tapered bristles so maybe those are some of the reasons for the slightly heavier application? I’ve only used the brush once so I will have to do the experiment again, maybe with my KGD Aqua foundation next time. By the way, I don’t know if the Burberry Sheer foundation can really be called that lol.
I don’t have many Kokutan, so I can’t compare to many other ones but the hair of the Evgeny is softer than the Kokutan ones I own myself. I use Nars 12 and 13 on a daily basis so I am glad that I can replace them with the 2 Evgeny (not that I want to get rid of the Nars, never ever, I still use them and will carry on using them, but it is true, I wouldn’t mind if the Evgeny were still a bit softer).
If it is more densely packed logically it will deliver heavier coverage but it will be the first time I own a sable foundation brush (not that I haven’t been eyeing the Armani before but never splurged). Oh the Burberry Sheer foundation, loool, I know, not that sheer after all, but I like the coverage it delivers, still ok for my dry skin although I prefer to wear it for shorter periods of time, it’s one of my favs when I want slightly more coverage than with the Ellis Faas 🙂
You’re lucky Bea! May I ask, what country do you live in?
Hi Mimi! I live in Toronto, CA so I am lucky enough to be in Evgeny’s neck of the woods lol. I have taken comparison pics of the two I got against the Shu 18 foundation, Hakuhodo G5527 eyeshadow and the Chikuhodo made Artisan & Artist kolinsky foundation brushes. If anyone wants to see them I will be emailing the photos to Sonia and she can forward them on to you or just ask Sonia for my email addy and I can send them. I don’t want Sonia to feel I am littering her page with all my pics lol. 🙂
gosh Bea, never ever think that !!!! I love them !
Oooooo let us see! Sonia, will you show us Bea’s photos? And I’d love to know which brush is softer, the Polina or the Chikuhodo Z ?
Hi Mimi 🙂 I have just uploaded Bea’s pic, waw, I need the “Lovely” for sure !
The fu-pa14 is on its way to me.
Was my birthday today, (oh well… 1 more year), I was out for a while and quite busy so couldn’t reply to you all, but I’ll reply tomorrow 🙂
♪♬♩ HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONIA!!! ♬♪♫ I hope you had a great day! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you !!!! yes it was great, probably one of the bests ! I’ll tell you more if you want to know 🙂
Of course we want to know! 😉 Please share!
Happy birthday Sonia!!!!! Your lovely presence has graced this earth for another year! How wonderful! I hope you have a memorable day!
So sweet Mimi, thank you thank you so much !!! big hug !!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sonia! I was thinking of you Saturday hoping you were relaxing ( I do know better) and being waited on hand and foot!
Xoxo Stacy
Thank you Stacy !
oh yes yes, I was shopping, relaxing, eating, and served 😛 fantastic day !
Hi Mimi,
Phew, finally some time for me !
I have been patting the two brushes for 10mn 😀 but I can’t tell, neither can my BF !
When I am not sure, I ask him, his 5 senses are extremely developed, he hears and sees nearly like Superman 😛 Sometimes it’s even scary 😀
He says they are the same, made with same hair.
The Polina is more densely packed and the hair are shorter that’s why you may think it’s not the same softness at first but to me they feel the same…
Hey Bea! I was born in Toronto! My dad had to go to Canada for a few months to do some accounting for the Fluor Corp. and that’s where I was born. Now, it’s a big scramble because even though both parents are American, I am in the Social Security System as a Canadian. How to get a passport? I just have a small laminated card the size of credit card but I don’t think this is a birth certificate? Is it? Can you give me any info or advice? Thanks!
@Mimi: That sounds like your birth certificate? You would have to go to the passport office with 2 photos. There are certain size/dimension requirements and if I remember correctly stamped by the photo outfit that took it. You also need a guarantor to sign the application form – a Canadian citizen who has know you for x number of years. You can’t cross the border now without a passport or some special ID card. I don’t know what provisions there are for people who have dual citizenship? Try this link. If it doesn’t provide the answers you need, I can see if I can find out more info for you. Just ask Sonia for my email addy. 🙂

Thank you so much for this information Bea! I will check it out. I don’t know if I should try for dual citizenship. Will I have to pay income taxes in Canada? Both my parents were American so they say that I am too but because I was born in Toronto, I believe I have the right to dual citizenship. I wonder if I should hire an attorney to straighten all this out?
@Mimi: Link to the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website. 🙂

I think there used to be a pure kolinsky #12 as well, but which has been discontinued. Not sure about the rest, but #10 and #12 are definitely mixed sable and kolinsky.
“Had “pet problems” again this weekend… argh…. had to take her to the vet, apparently it’s just a tomy bug and dehydration… but she really looked awful, to be honest, I thought that was it.”
Any update, Sonia?
All the best to all of you.
Yes how is the poor puppeh?! 🙁
She is better, thank you all !! that’s really kind of you to think about her 🙂
yes she is doing better tonight, thank you <3 "just" a tomy bug, a huge one but she is looking much happier ! she wants cuddles all the time !
Yeah. Pets recovering from illness show their gratitude and trust in ways that would make my mascara run, if it weren’t waterproof.
Well that’s a relief! Sylvia lolz. 🙂
poor thing, after all she endures to take her medicine (3 different ones) she still thanks me …
With everyone here, hoping that Tess is okay!
so far going to the right direction… relieved !
So glad about Tess.
So sad about the tree-killing neighbour.
So intrigued by the “bite me” blush.
So looking forward to the round of good wine Bea will invite me to in payment that comment about my mascara 😉
I will take her to the vet again tomorrow, she looks better but still…
Oh, dont worry about the neighbour, he is selling his house !!! 😀 all town is partying !!
The “bite me” blush will soon be featured, I just wish they had more colors, you can soooo easily get addicted, any complex or statement color with this texture could one be a must-have !
Good news about the neighbour.
Mine are fantastic people- I couldn’t ask for better.
Discreet, kindly and quiet.
When is your off-to-Japan thread going to start?
Thread = trip ?
end of next month I think, still trying to plan my days off at work 🙁
I just have on bad neighbor so that’s ok, the others are so kind !
How many wonderful crease brushes does a woman REALLY need?
As many as it takes!
I have a terrifying wish-list, but the crease brush is now on it.
That list is taking on a life of its own. 🙁
Sylvia Sylvia Sylvia… the correct question to pose is: “How many wonderful crease brushes does a woman really want?” The answer is “ALL of dem!!!” 😛
I stand corrected!
well, we all know that there is not only “one” perfect crease brush, all are good in their own way 😉
I envy people who can use the #2 blush (TAT), it is similar but even better than my crush, the MAC Gareth Pugh collection’s #Strada! I missed that limited blush for one; also, my complexion is darkened by the sunny season here to have this kind of elegant and nude color less likely to be shown. I love both~~~ maybe I can get the SL one in memory of my #Strada.
Hi Sonia,
how does the blue squirrel brush on the polina compare to chikihodo z series? Which one is softer?
😀 Happy Birthday dear Sonia 😀
I hope you got ALL the special treatment, yummy food & LOADS of good pressies!!
I’m not at all surprised that we’re both Aries 😉
Here’s what I find to be a pretty accurate description of the Aries character:-
It goes without saying that you should simply ignore the part about character weaknesses because we have none 😀
http://zodiac-signs-astrology.com/zodiac-signs/aries.htm
Thank you Buggsiebee ! yep, special treatment indeed, yummy food and loads of little pressies 🙂
what day is it for you ?
since Aries is now over, with delay : Happy Birthday to you !!
Not surprised we are alike, act first, think later 😀
I just read the article, omg, for me it’s totally true, every single line 😀 scary ! and the nutshell is so you and me, “wanting is always better then getting” but we won’t sleep until we get it !!! 😀
I read my BF’s, he is the total opposite of what it’s described for his sign 😀 😀 😀
Yipp, these starsigns aren’t allways right, but this Aries one is pretty spot-on for me too! Scary …like you said. Yikes!!
You & I are at opposite ends of Aries. I’m 23.03 – right at the beginning. YAY…I’m first 😀 !! Hahaha!
The strange thing is that I always have got along well with Aries females but NEVER with Aries men.
Yes! It’s interesting just how different the sun signs are in men and women. Leo men and women are totally unlike, in my experience.
Wayne posted a youtube video about the brushes with application demonstration! It’s lucky fir me to know your blog and Wayne’s channel 🙂
Thanks Gladys 🙂
Sonia, I understand that longer hair means softer effort and quite different application purpose, but when it is to be used along the crease line, do you think Z10 from Chikuhodo is similar to the Evgeny crease brush? I guess the tapered end of both brush might be very similar to each other.
Do you think TF 13’s hair bundle has much more hair than Evgeny’s crease brush?
Reply only if you find time out of the Japan planning please, or after the Japan trip as you please.
Hi Gladys,
I am off tomorrow so I will be playing with the blog and will check these brushes in detail for you ! 🙂
I finally finished the booking of the hotels, I will also give you feedback on that tomorrow ! so excited !!!
Hi Gladys,
The Evgeny crease and the Z-10 do not compare at all. The Evgeny is much bigger, has more hair at the point. The Z-10 is very very thin at the tip, not really meant for the crease but more for detailed work around the lash line.
The TF13 has more hair and density than the Evgeny, it also covers nearly twice the surface at the tip. The blending will be easier with the TF but the Evgeny is slightly more pointy. The TF is the crease queen of all the crease brushes I own, I wish TF had a more pointy version of this crease brush (but I will still need this TF13 exactly as it is, just wished the same existed with more precision without compromising on blending power).
Does this help ?
Hi Sonia
If you could only purchase one of these brush which would it be? The RMK cheek (full squirrel), the Suqqu cheek or the Evgeny Polina? I understand the RMK is larger & the price difference (especially the Suqqu) is huge but which would you prefer to have in your collection. I may one day end up with all three but for today just one (never say never lol)
I’m hoping you may purchase the powder brush one day & give your opinion as I’m a little crazy about having complete sets.
Omg they look sooooo beautiful! I’m thinking of scraping my Hakuhudo birthday order that you kindly helped me with & get the complete Evgeny set. The only thing stopping me is finding a review on the powder brush. My understanding is that its not squirrel I’m worried it won’t be as soft as I’m after.
I’m so sorry to read about your beloved dog being ill. I have children of the four legged kind & luckily know the joy they bring to your life & unfortunately the heartache you feel when they are not well. Hoping all is well now.
Thank you again for your opinions & bringing this beautiful brush collection to our attention
Cheers
Kellie 🙂
Hi Kellie,
I did purchase the powder brush if you are thinking about the Evgeny one. The review is coming soon. I am a bit disappointed about the softness of the goat hair (of the powder brush), I can use it, and it’s softer than the MAC ones for sure but for that price there are better alternatives IMHO.
If I had to choose only one of the firsts smaller brushes you mention, that’s impossible for me but when I get home tonight I will hold them and will let you know which one is the most precious to me 😉
little dog is ok, thank you for caring… she is not the best but she is doing fine, today she had an heart echo but it’s not a life situation threat, with some medecine she can be allright. Also she has something in her back but she has to be rechecked in a month… I think she did everything she could recently, I don’t know what else she could come up with 🙁
It’s a real pleasure to share my passion with you, I am delighted you enjoy 🙂
Cheers 😉
Thank you so much for your response.
I felt a little silly when I found the paragraph stating you had purchased the powder brush oops. Thank you for your opinion 🙂
I’d love to hear what you think mainly between the suqqu & Polina.
I’ve found the RMK brushes well priced & will ship to Australia from bonbon cosmetics so I will probably purchase them at some stage. I know they keep popping up somewhere in your HG list.
Thank you again & wishing your beloved dog a speedy recovery
Kellie 🙂
Hi! Just purchase three more brushes from his collection (I had the blending brush and never really knew what it was for until watching Wayne Goss present Evgeny brushes and your site). It’s now 2016 and he still contacts you personally, gives you a VERY person service (sending me a photo to calm my fears while mailing during a trip to Russia), and comes across as such a nice, “genuine” person. His brushes are so underrated and deserve more props I believe than Hakuhodo (in my opinion).
