And now for something even softer… Koyudo strikes again ! Macaron and H011- First impressions

by Sonia G.

Just a quick post to show you the first pictures of the Koyoudo H011 and also the new Koyudo Macaron (get ready to drool) :

Don’t they look like two angels in Heaven ?

I honestly wasn’t expecting such a great quality… I thought I had seen everything when it comes to brushes but actually I am happy I can still be impressed !

First, the Macaron, the first thing that comes to my mind is : gosh it’s SOFT !!!

It’s made of goat hair, it doesn’t feel like goat hair, no way. More like grey squirrel soft hair.

So dense that you have to push the hair very hard to see what it looks like inside :

Remember the Koyudo White Mushroom ?  well this is a small and VERY dense version of it.

The pink color of the base is the same as the other Koyudo FuPa brushes, nice and sparkly pink :

Compared to the other Fupa01 and the DekaFupa, the Macaron is even softer, here you can have an idea of the size :

The Koyudo H011 is actually really really soft, again same softness than the White Mushroom but much more densely packed.

The H011 is also goat hair but… really ??? I don’t even believe it, this is way too soft for goat hair…

I have the Hakuhodo Vermilion and although it’s also soft it doesn’t beat the H011.

I had purchased this Hakuhodo case (Kinoko Brush Case large) for the Hakuhodo Vermilion here but it is too small so I gave the H011 a home 🙂

This is how they came packaged :

Do you need these brushes ? yes.

What do you need them for ? we don’t care, we just need them.

I am really being silly because I don’t even know what I will use them for yet… that’s how crazy I am…

Well if you are reasonable, you will think of a use before you buy them 🙂

Unfortunately I cannot comment on how efficient they are since I haven’t use them yet, but I am starting tomorrow !

By the way, they have been washed, these pictures show the final shape after the wash.

Oooh, they are absolutely adorable!!!!!! The MacRon is to die for!!! I will be awaiting with trepidation what you think of the H011 for foundation application, and how it compares to the RM 😉 – if you still feel the H011 is suitable for foundation, that is! Thank you so much for the drool worthy pictures 🙂

I will certainly let you know as soon as possible about the H011, it feels soft like a cat’s paw ! I can’t stop patting them 😛

Made in Heaven for sure:))
I love my little macaroon & would love to collect a huge assortment! I wish they had a green one……Koyudo….are you listening???
I used my macaroon for blush – not with pigmented blush, but I think that would work too if you’re careful to tap off the excess before applying. Thisl little ‘angel’ brush is a great but gentle belnder. It’s softer post-wash by the way.

I should have picked the orange one… I want also a blue one… plizzzz …
Not sure I can afford all colors though 😀
I will play with them tomorrow for sure ! Cross-fingers they will deliver !
I am scared I will end up with clown cheeks because I won’t be able to stop applying and buffing again and again… 😀

It’s Sunday, do unless you’re going to church, just go with the clown cheeks:))
Just wait till you get the red squirrel brush, you’ll be stroking it over your face ALL day and will pay someone to continue while you sleep. OMG where does it end??? Soft, softer, softest…..mega softest, über-softest,………

Sonia: I am very interested to read that post…. I love love love what I have and have almost ordered so many more but something (intimidation from ordering from their site vs CDJapan ? ) holds me off….

Don’t worry if you are gone mad, you are at the right place here 😀

What was your second brush in the Koyudo order ?
I am not loving all the Koyudo brushes, I still have to post the review but when I am not sure about something I prefer to give them more time…

Reply
CC 28 October, 2012 - 7:48 am

I got the white mushroom and the red squirrel brush. Can you imagine my happiness stroking and touching these two brushes at the same time?? I just sent in another order for BP022, BP034, and BP039. And now you had me salivating for this H011.

So which Koyudo brushes not getting too much of your love?

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 28 October, 2012 - 11:30 am

hahahahaha 😀 oh yes I can imagine !!!
it would be these ones. They are not bad, they are Mac quality but I have problems with Mac brushes on my sensitive skin, shame because the shape of these ones is very interesting !
Don’t pay attention to the names on the labels, I am not sure they are correct ! 🙁 I think I mixed them up !
The eyeshadow brushes are horse, they are not bad for horse brushes but I don’t really like horse material so… they are not getting much love.

Buggsiebee, I love the idea: a box full of different colored baby mac brushes.. a rainbow of softness 🙂 Sonia I have decided to turn a list over to my Santa of wonderful brushes that I must have (not want or need but must have). Actually I will probably tell him, order them and let him wrap them (safer that way)!

I find myself laughing out loud at the comments too! Hope he joins in the fun ‘)

And Buggsiebee pleeeeeeeease do not tell us about the Laduree yet!!!! Please wait until the brushes slow downnnnnnnnnnnn

I am so amused by your brilliant quote. I find it so hard to differentiate between “need” and “want” when it comes to makeup brushes! This is a great post, but I am trying so hard not to think about these 2 brushes, otherwise my extensive shopping list will just grow 🙁

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 28 October, 2012 - 7:04 am

Example : I need one Macaron, but I want them all 😛
If we are reasonable there is no need or want when it comes to makeup, and “need” is not something I like to say 🙁

Christmas is next door, did you write to whoever is responsible for your presents ? It may help… 😉

Speaking of Laduree, have you guys seen the Laduree makeup? It is so… I don’t even know how to describe it. I wouldn’t say I’m a girly girl, and they DEFINITELY have a princess-y opulence, but wow! When I first saw the collection, I wanted everything…then I talked myself out of it because Sonia hasn’t done a review on their products yet 😛

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 28 October, 2012 - 11:44 am

I know Buggsiebee has some and she loves it ! The reason why I haven’t done a review yet is because I have to purchase them and that is quite expensive 🙁
But it’s definitely in my wish list 🙂
These products look really nice and I heard they were nice and pigmented too ! I tried to order some in the past but the two blushes I wanted were sold out. I have to try again !

Reply
Buggsiebee 28 October, 2012 - 1:02 pm

I hope I don’t need to clarify that I was only joking on keeping the Niche order:))
So Lonely in Gorgeous has great swatches of the Laduree makeup. I’m thinking of getting the yellow blush in 003. The colour terrifies me as a blush, but Liz says to use it for blending over other blushes to creat other nuances. Sounds like an interesting experiment. The Laduree blushes I have already are great quality but are soooooo very expensive.

Sonia, I saw your pic of the not so loved Koyudo and I’m with you on those. I also have two of the little pink C- series (? ) brushes which have landed in the ‘never use’ box and also the one you have labeled BP026. Not much love there. Can’t win them all I guess.
Did you give your new brushes a test run yet today?

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 28 October, 2012 - 8:38 pm

No we can’t win them all as you say but we are also a bit spoiled with the best ones so the standards are very high 🙂

Well I didn’t have much time today … my boyfriend’s family is here until Tuesday so I am taking care of the cooking, lunch was beef stew with apple tart for desert, dinner was chicken pie with cheesecake (very light indeed), I can tell you that I don’t even have the strength to stand up right now !
We went bowling in the afternoon, I was on fire 😛 4 strikes in a row … how can that even be possible ? I am in trouble girls 😛
Since I didn’t have much time to get ready I applied my EF foundation with the H011, the coverage was too heavy so I have to change the way I am applying it and blending it 🙂 Also used the Macaron for cream blush, I couldn’t stop applying and of course I applied too much 😛
They are really soft but so dense that I have problems controlling my heavy hand !

Reply
Buggsiebee 28 October, 2012 - 9:18 pm

OMG Sonia, don’t tell me you cooked all that yourself?? Do you enjoy cooking?
I swear that if ever I stop collecting brushes I willl invest my money in a cook instead. It’s one of the chores I hate most.
I have a brush from Hakuhodo – G543 – which looks similar to the H011 and they suggest using it for powder products. Like mineral foundation. Sort of like like a powder puff I guess – due to its extreme density:)

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 28 October, 2012 - 9:43 pm

yes I did 🙂 and yesterday it was : Fondants au Chocolat !
I enjoy eating… so somebody has to cook !!! 😀
Is the G543 soft ?
I wondered you must had goat and squirrel brushes 🙂 I really want to try this one but at least it’s not LE !
I also need to try this technique, “powder puff style with mineral foundation” but I imagine it will be a too heavy coverage for me, I wish days had 48 hours ! don’t have time to play with my brushes 🙁

Reply
Buggsiebee 28 October, 2012 - 1:56 pm

Ooops….sorry Stacy…too late. You don’t need Laduree in your life though! They are good quality but pure kitsch really & the packaging is extremely plasticy for the price. You DO need the red squirrel Koyudo brush!!!!

Reply
Bonnie 1 November, 2012 - 11:18 am

Yeah, I agree. The ones I originally saw that led me into looking more were the rose petal blushes housed in the Faberge-looking egg shells. Pretty but so expensive! I’d rather be getting more brushes 🙂

On the other hand, my lovely, lovely best friends are getting me the Tom Ford bronzer brush, amongst other things, for my birthday! Even though it’s in December ^^; I think they were sick of me using all my money on makeup and brushes…

Kay 29 October, 2012 - 2:40 am

These are so cute, like little puppies. Have yet to use two Hakuhodo kabuki type brushes, not sure why, too pretty to mess up? or perhaps I like handles? They sit there, so elegant and pristine, a little haughty perhaps, not like your happy colorful Koyudos which beg you to play with them. I didn’t know brushes have personalities but these Koyudos certainly do!

Reply
Buggsiebee 29 October, 2012 - 6:41 am

Hi Sonia, in answer to your question about the G543, I would say your Koyudo brush sounds softer. I think the slight roughness is due to the desity and short length of the hair. I never used it for applying powder. I just used it to stipple the foundation into the skin once I had already applied it with a brush. It pushes the foundation into the skin and gives a nice even finish. It was a ‘The Non Blonde’ recommendation.
As to the feast you provided your relatives with yesterday…..I also enjoy eating , but I love it sooooooo much more when someone else has done the cooking:D

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 30 October, 2012 - 8:23 am

Still trying the H011 😛 I doesn’t come close to the flawless finish of the Radiance… but I haven’t found the right way to use yet !

Nikoleta 29 October, 2012 - 7:37 am

I’m glad to share with you my love for brushes as you did for other brands 🙂 Sonia’s blog is the best place for it!
The H004 is really good for sheer application, it’s very soft, didn’t lost a single hair since now, kept shape after washing. I have some mix squirrel goat brushes from hakuhodo (B501, B505, B512) and except the B512, they are very densely packed, shorter and so they pick a lot more pigment and you need to blend more. H004 is a finishing, powder, bronzer brush, not suitable for buffing in mineral foundation or blush. I’ll ask soon koyudo if they make individual sakura brush like this http://www.koyudo.co.jp/EnHP/List/Detail/sakura/EnSakura022Detail.html (grey squirrel and goat) as cool japan now sells it in just in a set. I have something for round head brushes.

Buggsiebee 29 October, 2012 - 9:51 am

Hi Nikoleta!
I would like to try the H004 for bronzer too. Sometimes I find the Tom Ford & my Louise Young a bit too large & dense.
I need it to be denser than the mushroom though? Do you have the mushroom?

Reply
Nikoleta 29 October, 2012 - 1:28 pm

No, I don’t have the white mushroom, but I don’t think H004 is denser. This “airy” feeling is what dissapointed me at first but afterwords it was a great discovery with my givenchy croisière bronzer as it gave an “airbrushed”, no harsh lines “effect”. Do you have the chikuhodo Z-1, it seems an excellent bronzer brush from what Sonia says in her new post ?

Reply
Buggsiebee 30 October, 2012 - 9:10 am

I do have the Z1 and you are absolutely right, it does work VERY well for bronzer. I hadn’t used it yet quite frankly. I tend to get stuck onto particular brushes & don’t experiment enough. I’ve been using my Kanebo Tesshyu collection powder brushes forever and the Z1 was just part of the Chikuhodo set which I really just purchased for the Z2, Z4. & Z8. The brushes weren’t avaiable individually back when I purchased & anyway I love the pouch 🙂 Now I’m very happy to have discovered the Z1. Thanks to you & Sonia:))
I’m still getting the H004 though. It sounds divine & I will definitely try it with my Croisiere as you suggest. Merci!!

It is a foundation brush堂Yu H series Akira.
Next-to-skin soft and well, are using the mountain, which is also wool waist.

Doesn’t that just make you smile?

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 1 November, 2012 - 3:55 pm

I got a similar one that is goat but black, I really like the shape but it’s similar as Mac quality brushes, which is not soft enough for my skin…
I found that with Koyudo the white brushes I ordered are all amazing, but some black (goat) ones are not that soft, but the shape is fantastic!
I have made this order with Koyudo recently :
Koyudo Cheek Brush red
Koyudo Sakura 022
koyudo BP013
Koyudo H005
2012 Christmas Set
I will let you know what I think of them when I get them 🙂

Hi Sonia!
Do you think the macaron is a good blending brush, or is it too dense for that?
I’m looking for a good face blending brush, I was originally eyeing for the white mushroom, but I couldn’t resist macaron, it’s so cute! 😀

But since you mentioned it’s very dense, I wonder if it’ll remove too much colour when blending.

Would be interested to hear your tought!

Cheers,
Ellen

Sweet Make Up Temptations 8 February, 2013 - 8:34 am

Hi Ellen,
Probably that the macaron will be too dense and firm and it may move or alter your foundation.
The White mushroom is very soft, maybe too soft (it is for me when I want to blend more difficult products).
There are so many options for excellent blending brushes that I don’t know where to start…
my go to are these ones :
Koyudo H005
Chikuhodo Z-1
Chikuhodo G-9
Koyudo BP019
Koyudo BP026
just to mention a few, then it depends if you want a very soft and expensive option or something more affordable but still excellent, also it depends if you want a bigger one or more small and versatile…
so many options !!! 🙂

Reply
Ellen 8 February, 2013 - 12:21 pm

Thanks for your input Sonia!
That’s too bad that both aren’t fit for blending eh :/
Gone are my excuses to get some cute brush x)
What do you use macaron for these days?

I might go for koyudo H005, I prefer smaller size since I have smaller features 😀

Thanks again! 😉

Reply
Sweet Make Up Temptations 8 February, 2013 - 12:46 pm

well it depends how you blend 🙂 you could since they are very soft so sometimes when I need to “polish” I do use them, this and the H008 don’t burn my face although they are very dense and firm.
I actually use the macaron with very hard to apply blushes (I have some Addiction that are extremely hard or some Guerlain duos that are like rocks), so I dab or apply gently with this brush, works a bit like an sponge.
I also use it with powder by the way.

It’s just one of the most beautiful brushes to look at 🙂

Reply
Ellen 9 February, 2013 - 12:03 am

Haha I love how you described Guerlain duo as rocks..

I am heavy handed so I suppose me + very dense brush = foundation gone haha

Anyhoo, I just bought the H005 and the Red squirrel 😀
Woohoo

Oh yeah, how does the red squirrel koyudo compares to chikuhodo Z-4 size wise?

Karina Fogliani 17 January, 2018 - 3:44 pm

I just ordered 5 brushes – 3 Koyudo and 2 Chikuhohodo – from A-Janaika.com. I ordered the macaron is purple. I’ve always wanted a purple kabuki and just couldn’t resist it. Still no updates on shipping. Do you know if they are made to order?
