These Burberry eyeshadows are HG material for me, I am just literally obsessed with Burberry anyway, their Beauty range totally reflects the elegance of the Brand and I think it also added a sexy accent to their image.
Their makeup products are not just luxurious little compacts but the quality of the product itself couldn’t be better.
I am in love with their Sheer Foundation, their blushes and their lipsticks are amongst my favorites. Today I will talk about the eyeshadows, I don’t own all of them but I am afraid I am not that far from that, I don’t usually buy so many eyeshadows from one brand just because I like them, when this happens, it’s because I really deeply love them. I really do.
I have been watching some interviews with their Chief Creative Director, I like to hear him talking about the brand, he defines the beauty collection to be effortless, elegant, to be meant to enhance rather than cover the face, to be appropriate for all different occasions and decades, I absolutely agree.
Burberry makes Youtube videos, they show some tutorials and give some advice, like wearing their lipstick as a blush under the foundation… these videos are useful. I wish all the brands did that !
I have been collecting mine little by little, they are on the expensive side so you better aim for the ones you really want. I got some in swaps and some as presents.

Considering that you get 2.5g of product for 29$, this makes them nearly the same price as a Mac (1.5g=15$). If you buy the same quantity of product, you will only be paying 4$ more and you would be getting a beautiful packaging instead. They are worth it.
Please have a look at KarlaSugar swatches and shades descriptions since she is just the best for that. I will only show you some comparisons with other similar shades.
Burberry Midnight Plum
LMdB plum shade in Le Cirque kaleidoscope is much less pigmented, you have to pack on the swatch to show as heavy as the others. The Burberry Dark Plum is the darkest, Chantecaille and Burberry are both very flattering, a satin finish with shine. This Black Plum is a nice alternative to black, it can be really build up for a more dramatic effect.
Burberry Pale Rose
It’s the same idea as the Mac Seedy Pearl, a duochrome white-pink shade, the irisdescent effect is more subtle, less metallic on the Burberry, looks more natural, I mean it covers but doesn’t look opaque.
Burberry Pearl White
I love the three shimmery white shades below, no preference.
Burberry Taupe Brown
Taupe Brown might look like a dupeable shade but it’s a must-have from the Burberry range, more pigmented, more silky and more long lasting than any other similar in my collection.
Burberry Dark Sable
I had no similar shades, so I thought I would add a swatch to the others above, you can see that it looks quite similar than Taupe Brown…
Burberry Mulberry
I love the Chanel Sable Emouvant duo, I thought this Mulberry would look similar but it actually isn’t similar at all.
Mulberry is a must-have, there are two shades, one in LMdB Silk Road and one in Modernist Merlot that are really very similar and that also have a nice formula, I find that Mulberry blends more easily and feels more silky and creamy, it also lasts longer.
Burberry Trench
The one I use the most is Trench, as an all-over base or sometimes as a cheek highlighter when I don’t have anything else with me. You will see it disappear into the skin, micro particles are deposited and reflect the light beautifully but in a very subtle way, you barely see it at all.
Burberry Pale Barley
If you had to pick only one, pick Pale Barley. I have similar shades in my collection but Burberry is the one that has the best finish. I wear UD Underground very often, I love this shade as well, I didn’t realize it was so close !
Burberry Almond
I love the fact that even if it looks matte, it has tiny micro shimmer particles that you can barely see, it’s such a beautiful finish. So creamy and blends like a dream !
Burberry Gold Trench
Funny because I thought I didn’t have close shades to this one, but actually Mac Era and Arena are a little bit similar to Gold Trench and I use these two Mac very often.
Gold Trench is the only Burberry shadow I own that I don’t actually like, it feels a bit powdery, I’d rather use Mac Era and Arena, both Mac are nice shadows and more luminous.
Burberry Midnight Brown
A gorgeous and outstanding quality eyeshadow… Love it to pieces.
The Mac Buckwheat looks similar but not pigmented enough, I think it is LE by the way. Nars India Song is to die for, but I even find Burberry a little bit more heavily pigmented and with more long lasting power.
Burberry Porcelain
One of my favorites, such a flattering highlighter or base shade ! Buttery and not overly shimmery… perfection.
Burberry Rosewood
I started the collection with Rosewood, at first I thought it wasn’t pigmented enough, I used to wear Satin Taupe nearly every day and I thought the Burberry wasn’t as good for a taupe. It’s different, today I highly prefer Rosewood, it’s definitely more flattering on my eyelids.
I also love the RBR at lot, you can see I love this kind of taupes !
I have just received the Sisley to try from my dear friend Buggsiebee, I have many ideas for this Sisley ! I have already tried it and I actually like it very much, love the silky finish, Rosewood is much more sheer and has more shimmer.
Packaging and organization
The packaging is heavy, magnetized, not easy to store because of the magnets inside, they tend to repel each other. I found that storing them in La Duree boxes was actually quite handy 🙂
My mum just told me that one lipstick I gave her had lost the exterior coating, I think it could have touched some other cream or cleanser in her makeup bag, to be on the safe side, I would travel with the eyeshadows inside the little pouch that is sent with it.
I also put labels on them just to make it easier in the morning, it doesn’t look so luxurious with the labels but I don’t mind that.
Bottom line
My favorites are Midnight Brown, Porcelain, Pale Barley, Almond, Taupe Brown, Mulberry and Trench.
They apply evenly, they blend well and the lasting power is really good, well done Burberry !

Thanks for another wonderful post. And it is just in time. My hubby is flying off tomorrow.. Can get him to buy me some Burberry @ duty free zone. Maybe just the Pale Barley for me. I need to save up for some Chikuhodo.
you are welcome 🙂
Fantastic ! You are right, you should get some Chikuhodo !
Right now I am thinking z1, z2, and z8.. Do you think I should get z5 and z10 too?
yes I honestly think you should get the Z5 and Z10, anyone who has the possibility to get them and who loves great brushes should have these in their collection.
Mulberry is gorgeous; is it limited edition ? Galeries Lafayatte sell some burberry products but not all the shadows 🙁
I don’t know Nikoleta, I don’t think they are LE, to me it’s more a “new launch” every season, that will enter the permanent line. I read on a blog that Pale Barley was LE but you still can get it, since they number their eyeshadows, the more logical thing would be to keep the numbering in their permanent line.. Difficult to get hold of this info on the web, but maybe someone that lives close to a Burberry counter could kindly ask and give us the info ?
Why don’t they sell all the shadows in Lafayette ? how strange !
I meant Galeries Lafayette site doesn’t sell all shades right now.
Here in Switzerland they don’t sell Burberry Beauty at all 🙂
I love it when I was at the By Terry counter, one day by chance I looked inside the drawer with the person working there because she couldn’t find what I wanted and guess what ??? they had the new collections inside the drawer, nothing outside. Not only customers here don’t necessarily know By Terry so they wouldn’t ask for a product in the new collection, but what is their selling technique here ? I looked at them with my big round eyes and asked them why they wouldn’t show the collections at the counter, they told they did not had the space for that.. waw, that’s an amazing selling technique 😮 .. now every time I go I have to ask them if they have the new collections, which is actually an absolute waste of time since they will start to sell me everything and I know the brand better than them 😛
Is it by choice or by marketing that they don’t sell all the Burberry at La Fayette ?
Well, I don’t know, their site is quite badly stocked in beauty products. Most of burberry products are out of stock and late collections are not online, it’s certainely not nordstrom, I admire Americans for their sens of marketing and large offer on Internet.
… and no taxes I guess…
I totally agree Sonia! Amazing quality, understated elegance! The new Mulberry was not what I expected either but I am quite pleased with it…. As far as I know none are LE. Your pictures and swatches are so accurate and beautiful!!!!!
Nikoleta, our Internet buying options are very good it is true!
CC: thanks for the awesome swatches! You are very good at it 🙂 and it is surprisingly difficult to do!
Thanks Stacy… in the following months I will get a new camera and more important : I hope also better photography skills and I might be able to do more ‘tutorials’ pictures, I think you were interested in that 🙂
I do complain a lot about taxes for the incoming parcels but sometimes it’s more interesting to buy high end cosmetics abroad, even for Chanel, prices are 1.5x higher here, and Laura Mercier even higher than that. On some occasions it’s “less worse” to pay taxes unfortunately…
What a Gogeous collection. I have yet to try Burberry shadows, but do want to terribly. I havnt been able to get Midnight Brown out of my head for ages. I’m also really loving the pale barley, I don’t have any similar shades to that. Also love Almond. The Burberry videos are great.
Xx
Midnight Brown would look so gorgeous on your eyes… you need to start with this one 🙂
I also love me some Burberry:))
Thanks for all the comparison swatches!
The left side of Sable Emouvant looks sooooo brown next to the Mulberry. I was expecting them to be a lot more similar. The magnetized cases of the Burberry & Hourglass shadows drive me up the wall though. I think I mentioned that I have one cracked Burberry shadow because it shot off the shelf onto the floor when i stacked it on top of another Burberry. You have to be so careful which way you place them & that’s is something I don’t have time for when i’m rushiing in the morning.
I wear Sable Emouvant very often I thought it would be really similar but it isn’t.. but I love both 🙂
The Brands think that putting magnets is so cool… Burberry is just ok, I can do with it, but Hourglass is even worst, and of course don’t speak to me about Rae Morris… what a nightmare !!!
Thanks for giving me an excuse to order & gobble up some Laduree! I see i definitely need the empty boxes for my Burberry shadows:))
The Burberrys look delicious ! Would you say the Midnight Plum is a dupe for the Laura Mercier Black Plum which you included in another recent post and which I haven’t yet been able to locate . I’m thinking of using this for a ” tight line ” as my eyes can no longer take an eyeliner : would this work do you think please ? Hx
Mmm… I don’t know, let me check tomorrow during the day with better lighting, I am thinking of another LM shade but I need to check if this can work as a tight line. Speaking of which, I just cannot achieve it with my Trish brush (it’s too hard and hurts a bit), I have ordered a flat Hakuhodo J series to try, I will get there… 🙂 when I have something in my head I have to find a solution 🙂
I’ll let you know tomorrow about the Black plum dupe !
Hi Helen, the LM Black plum is a bit similar but much darker and more matte. If you want nice options for powder liner, you can have a look at the Trish Mcevoy line definers http://www.trishmcevoy.com/c-17-eye-definers-powdered-eye-liner.aspx they are really very nice, today I have only the Blackberry Granite but I love it. They have a Deep plum shade as well.
Right now, I use the brushes Hakuhodo G5514 and G5515 (little pencil brushes) to apply the dark powder liner and sometimes I use some Paula Dorf Transformer liquid (I put a tiny micro drop on the back of my hand and just very lightly dip the brush and then I pick some powder and it transforms a powder shadow into a soft eyeliner more wearable than a gel one….).
You can also use the Burberry for powder liner, once on the eyes the metallic effect is very soft yet dark enough so it makes it wearable too 🙂
I went to Burberry today yesterday and swatched a few of the shades. I love the amazingly gorgeous texture! I was originally drawn to Rosewood but when the SA tried it on me, it just pulled really yellow and washed me out 🙁 BUT I loved Midnight Brown so much that I left with it. It just looked gorgeous on. I had a look a Trench but just didn’t do anything. I might try Pale Barley next time 🙂
oooooh I can’t believe the coincidence : I am actually wearing Midnight Brown right now 🙂
Hello Sonia , I wear Almond virtually every day ; as you know I try to venture into green-gold ( recently bought the Suqqu quad ) but I think Almond looks best, and it’s texture , although a powder , is so creamy , hardly any fall-out.I’d like your advice re : foundation though please Sonia. I went to Selfridges to be made-up trying the Ellis Faas ,and I said in a recent comment that I was given the wrong advice i.e. that the coverage is different in the pens to the bottle ; which didn’t please me , bearing in mind I make the effort to go to Selfridges because I assume they train the assistants well . The 103 I left with I think is too dark , as the test is that you put a streak of it on, and you can’t tell it’s there ? Well thank goodness I have my Fu Pa 2 and Radiance 27 to distribute it evenly .I think this will be alright in the height of summer , but not now .It’s so hard to tell under the lights in the stores ; I should always go out into daylight with a mirror shouldn’t I ? Also the RMK 04 is looking a bit too ” corally ” and I am tempted to buy a Suqqu blusher . What is your opinion of the Bright Veil powder please ?
BTW I bought the Creme de la Mer concealer , and it’s very dense , but the colour is good , and although insnely expensive , meant to last for a year and a half !!!!!! Thanks Hx
Hi Helen,
What a shame ! I wear the 103 and I don’t know why but even though I am between NW20 and NW25 (from winter to summer), it always matches me perfectly… I don’t understand why, it just adapts really well to my skintone whatever the season.
It’s really difficult to match it in the store, due to the lights and also to the SA that sometimes don’t advise you correctly. Sometimes they don’t know your skin, they don’t know your preferences and sometimes they don’t even know the product. I have to say that often I did not buy a product because the SA did not apply it well so I wasn’t interested anymore. The best thing is to first have the SA advise you but then take a sample and apply it at home. Go outside (I am happy to have a balcony where nobody sees me otherwise they would think I am nuts), so look at the mirror in daylight and check the pores, check the fine lines, etc… but check closely, sometimes the foundation is not equally applied and can appear patchy. Check 2 hours later, then 5 hours later, it’s amazing how it can evolve… For example after 2 hours sometimes I already see little dry patches around the nose and the chin,or you will see that the finish is not adapted.
I match it in my neck, maybe very very slightly darker than my neck, but I prefer a foundation that is slightly too light than too dark, you can still apply some bronzer if necessary to add a little color. What I love to do also is play with two different shades, with a lighter one under the eyes and around the nose.
The Suqqu bright veil is it this one you are talking about ?
if yes, I love it !! the whitish shade I use in on my lids or inner corner of the eyes, on the cupid’s bow, etc and the other side for the face, it’s so subtle, elegant and gives just the right amount of glow totally appropriate for the office. You can reasonably built it up and it doesn’t dry out my skin.
I will try some Creme de la Mer products one day… I just need to calm down on the brushes 😛
I must have made the right choice then 😛 I meant to say ashy with Rosewood, not yellow (it made my skin look yellow though)!
I’m in love with the texture and now I want to buy everything Burberry! I might go test out a some of the more matte shadows and the bases, like Trench, Gold Trench or Porcelain and see what goes well. And Almond and Taupe Brown… and Dark Sable and Mulberry…
They are too addictive 😀
Hi Helen,
I also got the CdlM concealer after you mentioned it here last. I find it ok, but I’m not blown out of the water. You??
I think my favourite under the eye makeup product is still Bobbi Browns tinted eye brightener. I have tried so much & think that I’m coming to the sad conclusion that at my age less is definitely more. A bit of brightening = yes, but concealer under the eye = no. No matter how lightly I apply it, It just settles in the wrinkles sooner or later & that’s not my idea of pretty.
Uneducated SAs give me the zig but I always try to keep in mind that for them it’s just a job & perhaps a not very well paid one:(
Unfriendly/ unhelpful is not ok though – ever! I’m totally allergic to that.
I wanted to tell you that the Serge Lutens lip pencil is available for sale again in their online shop. Perhaps you have got it elsewhere in the meantime though?
Happy halloween:D
Hi Buggsiebee ! Thanks for tip on SG lip liner . I agree about the C.de la M. concealer ; in fact I just applied it under one eye , and my trusty Clinique Airbrush Concealer under the other , and in fact I think I prefer the Clinique because the texture is less dense .I use the Hakuhodo J005 which gives a good finish .I’m going shopping for Sonia’s recommended B.B.Long-Wear eye make -up remover so I’ll check OUT out the eye-brightener – thanks 🙂
I’m afraid I think you’re right : it’s all about damage limitation now isn’t it !!!! That’s why I was so disappointed in how I looked after applying the E.F. foundation ! You are very reasonable about the shop assistant , but if I’d had the correct information I would have worked out what was said on here i.e. much cheaper to buy the bottle .Now I’ve think I’ll have to go beg for samples of 101/2 so I can mix the right colour.
That’s why I so value this site , because you can waste an absolute fortune buying something you think will deliver ( e.g. C.d l M . concealer !) because you think a high price = good product , but it ain’t necessarily so ! I so wish we could all have a Sweet Make-Up Temptations ‘ girlie week-end somewhere , and then we could all give each other tips and someone could tell me exactly how this shade aand illuminate malarkey is meant to work on my chubby little face :))))
But then you would probably make off with my Radiance 27 huh?! hx
Hi Helen,
I’ve been pretending with my MAC 179 that I have a Radiance brush. The #179 actually works pretty well – in the same sort of fashion I imagine the Radiance to work …but it’s NOT ‘the’ radiance brush!!
When that elusive Radiance brush shows it’s head at lovemakeup again I’m going to snap it up FAST!
I hear you on the wasted time & money and now the blooming color is not right either!! I’m an S102 in Winter and can do a S103 in Summer. Do you want me to get you a bottle of the EF S102 from Niche Beauty? The sale is still ongoing and I think their Halloween sale is on till tonight which means another 15% off. Let me know OK?
This kind of weekend would be crazy 😀 I am on 😀
Helen, have you ever seen this Goss video on concealers/ correctors?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU6AKUFlVIo&feature=plcp
Happy Halloween 😀
How about we ALL come to your place Sonia??
You could entertain us & cook for us ALL weekend:))
AND while you are cooking we could play with all your makeup & brushes:D
Ooooh yeah, I LIKE this!
hahaha I bet you’ll like that 😀
but you’ll have to be my guinea pig in exchange 😛
Oh I’m in!! Sonia just tell us when we should be at your house!!! I’m booking my ticket
now…… ;p
perfect ! Can’t wait !!! 😀
Whoa Buggsiebee, we could play with all of Sonia’s brushes?
Count me in! I will cook any Asian cuisine you want. Sushi or curry anyone? 😀
My brushes are your brushes 😛 you can play with them all you want 😀
It couldn’t be more tempting ! Love Asian cuisine !!
You know what, Sonia, I didn’t realise that the shadows I’d listed just above are almost identical to those on your favourite list. Guess it’s not that hard though, considering they’re probably the most neutral, wearable shades!
Hey Bonnie!
Your NIche Beauty order arrived this afternoon. I will get it off to you tomorrow but I am going to have to downsize the box or the shipping will double. I’ll let you know as soon as it’s on it way:))
Buggsiebee you are a pearl beyond price and I appreciate the offer , but I’m going to test the 102 in daylight and make sure it’s the right colour for me before I invest ( although I think the kind of 20 years younger look I’m after is only going to be achieved by bathing in virgins’ blood :)….. do they stock that on Zuneta ?:)) well it is Halloween ! hx
Thanks so much! Feel free to repack and even unpack if you need to. I am so grateful to you for doing this! Let me know how much to paypal you after it’s sent out 🙂
they are indeed ! I don’t really use Gold trench but I am loving all the others ! the single “one shadow” smokey with Burberry is the most easy thing to do ! I am doing that when I don’t have time to think “base-lid-crease” and it’s always perfect !
I agree with the single shadow smokey that Burberry eyeshadows seem to do perfectly. I’m looking for a nice, neutralising base and a darker crease I think. Will see what else I can pick up!
By the way, for the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate, what brush do you use? I vaguely remember another post saying you used their actual brush but if you don’t have that, what would you suggest?
For the Shade and Illuminate you can use many brushes, you can place the shading cream with a flat foundation (or concealer brush) and blend with a foundation brush. I don’t really use their TF Shade & Illuminate brush since you won’t be able to blend with this one anyway… Let me know if you want me to give you precise examples of brushes but pretty much any brush can work.
My favorite way to apply it is place it with any brush I reach for (small flat foundation or a concealer brush) then blend with the Radiance, fast, flawless and efficient !!!
Oh no, everything comes down to the Radiance! I think we need to write a petition to Rae Morris and ask more stock!
It should be fine, I’ll probably just use a flat foundation or concealer and blend as you suggested. Thank you as always!
Yes at the end, when I love something I just can’t stop coming back to it… And the great thing about the Radiance is that I don’t feel like I need to clean it after every single use, since it’s only to finalize and blend the application it doesn’t get as dirty…
I dropped by Burberry today and it just so happened that the state makeup artist was there and he gave me over a makeover. Had a lovely chat (he went to my university and did the same degree as me… but it burnt him out so he’s taking some time off to focus on Burberry!) with him. He suggested Gold Trench for me, mixed it with Dark Sable (instead of Taupe Brown) and it looked lovely. Also used the Tangerine blush, which looks muddy in the pan but went on beautifully. There were so many lovely things that I wanted to buy, I really do agree that all of the products that were used on me are of excellent equality. A really nice line… now to decide what I want….
Yikes, virgins’ blood sounds messy….even at Halloween! The EF evens out my complexion nicely but is not full coverage. I think it’s probably my favourite foundation at the moment. I do change my mind regularly though.
I. am . woman:))
Thanks , I watched the Goss clip and I ” get it ” now 🙂
Sonia thanks too for sound advice about buying foundation which I shall follow to the letter . Yes , re Bright Veil , that’s the one .
I’m thinking this may be what I need to brighten up my complexion .
Also the pale powder would be good for eyelid , as it is matte. Most of the ones I have have a shimmer , and my eyelids are really too too “mature” shall we say ! and the sheen seems to highlight all the tiny wrinkles .Also following your advice , after I’ve finished the huge bottle of Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair ( which gets such good press ) a friend kindly got me at duty-free , I’m going to start on the Astalift . I was pleased to see it’s not that expensive , so relieved about that . Thanks so much for all the advice and detail and effort you put into your posts , it’s so very much appreciated Sonia; there is such so much product out there it’s so difficult to know what to choose , and it’s so nice to get the views of your other disciples too ; everyone is so encouraging and helpful .
You are spreading the love !!!!! Hxx
I picked up Dark Sable and Almond today, I wanted to get Pale Barley instead but it was out of stock 🙁 but I am very, very happy with what I got! I got the 09 Socket Line brush as GWP 🙂 I haven’t tested it out yet but it’s not as densely packed as the Edward Bess, which is my blending brush atm. Still a solid brush though 🙂
Niiiiiice ! you will love these shadows ! and a brush as a GWP ? that’s just fantastic!
I know, I thought it was an excellent and very useful GWP!
Sonia, have you tried a Burberry bronzer? I know you love TF, but Burberry’s texture must be excellent too, if it matches that of the eyeshadows.
No I haven’t, did you ?
Right now I am enjoying the Chantecaille StBarts because I am quite fair, I have the Burberry Highlighter (bronzer/highlighter) but it’s quite sparkly, I should try it again, my taste and preference evolve so I will see if I find the sparkling effect still too much 🙂
No I haven’t, but I am so infatuated by Burberry’s eyeshadows and blush – thanks to you for recommending them!!! xoxo – that I have high trust in their other products. It is just that the TF bronzer is so highly praised, that I wonder if that is better. But I think I will order a burberry one, it can’t be bad 😉
thank you Jeanette <3 I mean, you are welcome !
I don't know about these, I saw these two reviews :
http://www.temptalia.com/burberry-copper-glow-warm-glow-bronzer-review-photos-swatches
http://www.temptalia.com/burberry-summer-glow-warm-glow-natural-bronzer-review-photos-swatches
and they look quite orangey, maybe this is why I was never that attracted to them (maybe there is another I didn’t see yet). I like to have one orangey bronzer in my collection but I have the Serge Lutens and that is enough for now. The ones I use the most are really brown and neutral, TF Terra has no orange and looks very natural at any time of the year.
The Burberry in terms of quality it can’t be bad! I am loving the eyeshadows and the blushes so much.
Hi Sonia, which do you prefer in eye shadows & blushes: Burberry or RBR?
hi ! Burberry 😀
