At some point, my collection grew out of control and I am not very proud of that,Β but that’s another story…
I had to find a way to make it faster and easier in the morning rush… and also to use everything and not only the same products over and over again. If I see them I will use them, if I don’t, I will forget about them.
I started putting labels on my palettes, then the blushes, then nearly everything else… and that helped, a lot, today I can spend more time enjoying the application and less looking for the items.
I also don’t have a lot of space or a place to sit to apply my make up, today I have a nice Ikea Malm dresser with a mirror and my boyfriend added some nice little lights on the sides,Β I also have 3 more drawers in another bigger dresser and everything has to fit in there.
The brushes
My brushes are stored in drawers, Sigma cups or acrylic holders.
In the Ikea dresser, the top drawer is for eyeshadow brushes, the middle drawer is for Rae Morris and other flat kabukis, the bottom drawer is for foundation brushes, my big Louise Young powder brush or other longer brushes that don’t fit in the top one.
The white plates are in factΒ cheese plates… I know… but actuallyΒ it’s very hygienic, when I clean my brushes I also clean the plates with alcohol.Β I found them in a shop calledΒ “Casa”, they neverΒ made itΒ into the kitchen…Β π
I keep the rebel Rae Morris set in a pencil roll since they are magnetic, otherwise they would stick to each other. I have tried to put a metal plate inside the drawer but that did not work, the brushes were strongly drawn to each other and I stillΒ needed both hands to separate the brushes, in this pencil roll they don’t move and IΒ can remove a brush with one hand if I am holding a palette with the other hand for example π
I bought some Muji acrylic containers in Selfridges, they are not expensive at all, they had a photo frame like this, that I have transformed into a shelf since they were selling additional little metal feet, I just replaced the screws with the same feet.
Eyeshadow palettes and Mac Msf’s
I am a serial depotter… these are my bigger palettes with many depotted blushes or eyeshadows
Blushes, highlighters, bronzers and Chanel quads
Round blushes and lip products
I don’t even need to take them out to check the name, their name is written on the label.
I put most of the lipsticks in small acrylic holders, it takes more space but it’s much easier to pick them up if they are not squeezed all together.
If I don’t put labels on them, I try to sort them from left to right, for example the YSL go from number 4 on the left to number 19 on the right…Β Β I don’t always do that but I try if I can.
Maybe one trick I can also share is that I take pictures of my drawers with my phone, when I travel and I am not sure of the shades I already have, I zoom into the phoneΒ picture and it’s perfectly readable…Β I admit when it comes to lipsticks I don’t always remember which ones I bought exactly…
Foundation, skincare, concealer and samples
This is the dirtiest drawer of all, I have too many products and it looks ugly and dirty.. sorry about that.
and another awful one for pencils…Β I love Chanel, YSL, Rouge Bunny Rouge, Nars, I try to separate them in these little office supplies, this organization can be improved and has to be sorted !
Mac paintpots and other cream eyeshadows
I got these acrylic drawers in a local shop in Geneva, but I guess you can find them pretty much everywhere.
Some other ideas…..
I have nail polish racks but I use them mainly to keep other small blushes, the problem with these racks is the dust, but you’ll have the same problem with nail polish. I glued hooks for the scissors and the eyelash curlers.
I always keep a spray of alcohol near me for the brushes or to quickly sanitize other make up products.
These are the lights my boyfriend attached to the sides of theΒ Ikea Malm, they are nice and you can point them towards the center or the sides, but they areΒ not very bright, I am trying to convince him to add two more little thin racks on the sides of the mirror…
There is way too much acrylic … IΒ am tryingΒ to tone it down, I put a beautiful thick bright pink coaster and I cut the corner so that it fits perfectly well.
Here is my little and cheap label machine, on the right theΒ RBR eyeshadows, I don’t always put the full name on the label… as long as I know which one it is…
This is the other photo frame, I put the dirty brushes on this one when I am using them …Β Β and it’s easy to clean !
I have aΒ pink jewellery box on the left, with stackable trays,Β perfect for little charms, Β you can find a picture here. This one comes from John Lewis in the UK.

It’s too high… way too high…
Remember… make up is heavy.. you may want to do something about the drawers if you don’t want them to break due to the weight, I had to ask my boyfriend to think about something, he did that at the bottom of the drawer, it prevents it from bending :
I hope this little post gave you some ideas… if yes, please let me know ! Please also share your storage ideas in the comments below,Β or if you have a video or a blog post please link it here π I would be very happy to see them !

omg you have the best brush collection i have ever seen! can you do a post on your fav. brushes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Pim, thank you so much π I am doing it right now and it will be uploaded tomorrow π it’s not easy because I love them all, to pick my top favorites has been really difficult !
This was absolutely wonderful to stumble upon at the right time as I’m going through all of my makeup and nail polish to find a better way to organize. I have the same ‘out of sight out of mind’ problem with most of my products. I use the same stuff everyday (not a bad thing, but variety is the spice of life!) I’m actually on the market for a different vanity so thanks for posting yours. My mind was leaning that direction of storage so I’m happy to see it in ‘action.’
I am so happy it helps ! Today I still have the same organization, it makes it really easy and quick in the morning to play with all the makeup items, even the ones that we would usually forget about, as you say variety is the spice of life π …. Nothing has changed except for the billion new brushes that joined my collection, now the dresser looks like an invasion from the outer hairy space and it’s starting to freak me out π
Just kidding.. but I need to do something, really.
I hope you find the vanity of your dreams, please send me a pic when you do π
Oh MY Gosh!! I hadn’t seen this post before. You are sooo Organised. I absolutely need to rotate my stuff more. I keep it all in cupbords & drawers in my room which is kept cool. I sort according to brand or according to product. Nothing stands on shelves because I hate dusting:)) Only the items I am currently excited about are allowed into the bathroom cabinet where I do my makeup. The cabinet is soooooo full at the moment though. I definitely need to do some sorting before the entire thing & all the contents comes crashing down. Like you say……makeup is HEAVY!
Don’t you think I am a bit crazy ??? π
We will be doing a lot of changes in the house (walls etc) and I will have a room just for me, for my makeup organization, my office and the studio lights π
I honestly can’t wait ! But before this happens, I need to seal everything in boxes because I am scared all the fine dust generated will damage the products, cross fingers that all the items will survive without contamination π
sorry my english too bad, but I tried to make u undesrtand..
1st I loved ur alllllllll cosmeics
2nd I am so so so jelous, I just think if I want just like ur production maybe I should live 100 time to have little part of ur things

Hi, thanks for your sweet comment, I have to leave for thousands of years in order to finish everything I have π
It took me a 7 years I believe (I started before that but not seriously). Don’t try to do that at home, it’s not necessary π
take care !
Hey
No for sure I will not try this at home,, no money to spend π
Have a nice day
We’re waiting for more amazing blogs π
OMG!! Love your storage ideas!! I would love to see what’s in those zpalettes and are those UNI palettes?? drool….
Thank you for wonderful idea. My makeup was all over the house. I just pulled out my old computer desk from the garage, got two new desk lamps and converted it into my own vanity desk. I love it… now i just need to get to ikea to get small drawer unit.
Thanks so much for such an interesting post.
I’ll definitely use many of your ideas for my own use.
Hello! As an avid reader of your blog, I thank you for the wealth of information you bring to the blogosphere! You have single-handedly turned me into a brush fiend =). I was wondering what your thoughts were on brush guards? Do you think they are necessary? Iβve never had an issue with the shape of a brush failing to stay in shape, Iβm not too keen on wrapping my brushes tightly with plastic mesh either.
I hope you have a wonderful time in Japan (on my bucket list), and I canβt wait to see the blog posts that follow it!
Hi Julie,
I don’t use brush guards at all, they can be helpful sometimes when the hair is a bit wild but I don’t have the patience, I just don’t bother. I never found that brushes lose their shape in the cleaning process. When they are wet I shape them with my fingers and that seems to be enough. If one day I find that they loose their shape then I will probably get some.
When I travel I make sure they are not insanely squeezed and I don’t use brush guards because if they move, the hair will be trapped inside and it won’t be safe for the brush.
I could also make a brush guard with smooth wrapping paper and scotch tape if I really needed but I just don’t feel the need.
Thank you… I can’t wait to be there !
Wow! I love the way everything is so beautifully organised and tidy! This has given me so many great ideas on how to organise my stash which is slowly but surely growing into a little monster π Thanks for sharing your tips!
Thank you Kay π
Wow, I love your collection and I’m certainly getting jealous! I’m wondering where you got those nail polish racks that you store your blushes with? I think they look and work great and would like to get some too!
Hi π oh I don’t remember exactly, I think it was in Germany on an online shop, if you search for Nail polish rack and Australia, maybe you get some that deliver to you. I found this but I am not sure about the delivery :

Hi again π which labels you re using, the plastic ones? My machine has only paper but I think I can buy plastic, or metallic, not sure, but the paper ones aren’t working for the brushes especially
they look like paper but the top layer appears a bit plastified, still there after 1 year but it’s starts to rub off, normal after all the washes and use!
Understandable π thanks, I’m going to find some for my machine then!
