Blushes

Swatching RMK

RMK is one of my top favorites brands, specially when it comes to blushes. I am really surprised that these blushes aren’t more often reviewed and raved on the blogosphere. When I wanted to expand my collection I couldn’t find enough information or swatches online then saw a mission for me here… so I have gathered a few products and today I will show them to you, believe me, it’s not a sacrifice to spend my money on RMK, whatever the product the chances it doesn’t work for me are so minimal that I absolutely don’t mind taking the risk.

RMK was launched in 1997 by Rumiko, a Japanese professional makeup artist, I just wish her brand was more easily available. Thanks to Rouge Deluxe I got the info that Rumiko is actually going to leave her place to a new Creative Director in 2013.  I just sincerely hope that RMK’s phylosophy will remain exactly the same.

Unlike other brands, RMK manages to create vibrant and bold colors and make them wearable on a daily basis, I mean “easily” wearable, no need to blend for hours and to need to be a scientist to pick the right amount of product. RMK claims that their makeup will make you feel “happier, sexier and fresher”, it’s exactly what I want and what it does to me, I like to wear discrete makeup for work but discrete and subtle does not mean flat. I love when natural comes with some kind of twist, therefore, most of my RMK products made it into my Holy Grail sanctuary…

Swatching Suqqu…

First of all, I apologize for the look of the pictures, not only some palettes are a bit old and ugly but I also haven’t found the best way to take pictures of swatches -yet-, eventually one day I will get better at this, so let’s hope for the best !

After a few years collecting Suqqu palettes, I have managed to gather some of them, 16 eyeshadow palettes and 8 blushers/powders, tightly stored in my little bright green box and duly labelled for the fastest possible morning makeup routine ! Not easy to remember which one was behind each name but today I finally can.

I already mentioned in one of my posts that Suqqu was my comfort makeup : when I don’t know what to wear and when I am in a rush – which is almost every single morning –  it’s easy to take just one Suqqu palette and get ready in a minute, or two… :D

Wearing Suqqu feels good, so far all the palettes I bought work really well for me, some better than others but I am able to use them on my ageing lids whatever the shades or the finish or the mood…

suqqupalettes

I got most of them at Selfridges Uk, not easy to get them actually. I remember going to Selfridges years ago and continuously hearing “it’s sold out” again and again and again… it took time and a lot of patience (time and money) to get my hands on them.  By the way, if you are contacting Selfridges, not all the palettes they have are mentioned on the website, if you call them they might have more items available in stock (LE, etc..).

Some of these palettes are either discontinued or Limited Edition from past collections, I am showing you all of them because if you have them today you may be able to compare to the others from their current collection.

This is not a review, just sharing some swatches for some of you that might be interested :)

Le Metier de Beauté Crème Fresh Tint VS Chantecaille Cheek Crème

I had two reviews in the pipeline today, the Chantecaille Cheek Creme and Le Metier de Beauté Crème Fresh tint for lips and cheeks, I thought I could post a comparison of the two :)

The main difference between them is that the LMdB are also meant to be used on the lips, but since anyway I don’t like the feeling on the lips at all, I will compare only the “cheek” usage of these.

For reference there is a pic at the end of the post with Coral Nymph on the lips but it’s like a frosty/icy finish, not very forgiving, sits on the lips and it does also settle into the lip lines, I did not find the application flattering at all. At this moment I have the worst lips ever and I know that doesn’t help but I had the same problem with very smooth lips. However I saw pictures of bloggers wearing it and it looked nice… on them ! It doesn’t really dry the lips out and I can keep it for a while but even if that’s not a bad multipurpose product, I will not use it on my lips.

The packaging is totally different, I like that Chantecaille has a cute packaging, small and easy to carry, BUT, LMdB contains 5g and costs Usd 28, Chantecaille costs Usd 34 and contains 3g, you get definitely much more product in the LMdB.

Rouge Bunny Rouge – For love of roses – Original Skin blush swatches

Rouge Bunny Rouge claims to be targeting the “true seekers of beauty” :)

In an era when most brands are concerned with following the trend, we provide something quite different; a thoughtfully balanced palette of colours, for true seekers of beauty, who choose beauty over brand name or fad.

I am looking for a blush that enhances my cheeks, that doesn’t shout blush, with a matte but not powdery finish and with Rouge Bunny Rouge I am in the right place.

I actually find the packaging practical and trendy but for the price tag it could be a little bit more luxurious… or it could contain a bit more product !
The case is 1cm high, 5.5cm diameter with a big mirror inside, it contains 3.5g of product for 25 Gbp (I think, because I got mine without VAT so it reduces the price to Gbp 20.83). An European version of a Chanel blush is 4g and costs 31Gbp, now you know that Rouge Bunny Rouge is a very expensive brand indeed !
I am sad but also lucky they don’t have more shades available because I would be tempted to buy them all ! Today I have all their shades from their Original Skin blush range.

I stick white labels with the names on the side because of the way I store them, it helps me to pick them up more easily.

Rouge Bunny Rouge started in Russia in 2006 and even if I find their prices too high, I find most of their products to be extremely good and worth the price tag.

I like the RBR description, it really makes you want to have them :)

Original Skin Blush blends with a sheer, silky touch for a naturally luminous glow. A medley of active ingredients, including Uhaloa from Hawaii, also known as Velvet-leaf and modern technologies impart a long term brightening effect. Indian Gooseberry Fruit Extract stands guard against free radicals. Sheer pearls amplify the creamy soft touch and ensure a limpid glow. Innovative powders entwine with your skin to preserve perfection all day long.
Result is your skin but better; you’ll wonder how you blushed before…

Burberry Beauty – Light Glow Natural Blushes and the Highlighting compact

Imagine you love a brand, then imagine they launch a beauty line … exciting !

I own just a few Burberry items, my favorite being this embossed Equestrian Knight handbag that I got in a Burberry outlet, still, the most expensive handbag I ever bought…

The Burberry make up line entirely reflects the spirit of the brand, luxurious and elegant. It’s not easily accessible in Europe, so you might not have heard of it yet, be warned, they are good.
Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer, says that the philosophy behind this make up line is more about enhancing your own beauty than covering your skin.

Tom Ford blushes

The day I was the most impressed with a make up application was the day I had my make up done at a Tom Ford counter in Harrods. I went from the most exhausted looking face to the most glamourous look in about half an hour, my addiction to Tom Ford began that same day.

Tom Ford is a powerful man, I love his range. The first time I heard about his make up launch, I could not wait to fly to London and see it by myself, I did my best to schedule a business trip as soon as possible and I rushed to the TF counter.

First thing I saw from far far away : the blushes. They were hanging in the counter glowing and shouting my name :D
My first impression : I thought I could never wear them !

I was afraid to get close to them, I was fearing disappointment. I tried to get a bit closer and wanted to swatch them… but the people working there were so pushy that I  just wanted to leave…

I tried again at another TF counter,  this time it was even worst. I like to be left alone for a little while and only go talk to them when it’s time :)  this sounds weird but I am not an awful person, just need a little time to think, on my own.

My last try was finally the one, I ended at the Harrods TF counter and they were amazing. I loved their attitude and I even stayed for a full face make up application.

Guerlain by Emilio Pucci – Terra Azzurra Bronzer & Blush

Guerlain is recently creating products that are real hits. It started with the Blush G Serie Noire and since that day, I always follow closely the new collections, very excited to see what new products will come out but always waiting with trepidation because I know that if I am tempted, it’s gonna cost me… Guerlain is very expensive here and therefore, it can get really scary !

Since the collections in Switzerland come out much later than in the USA, it gives me some time to prepare and check out the online reviews, that’s the only benefit of that huge gap between the release dates  !

With this Emilio Pucci collection, this Terra Azzurra Bronzer & Blush is the star of the collection. When I saw it for real I was convinced I had to get it, to me, a must-have. Not only it’s a beautiful piece, but I love the result when I use the bronzer and the blush as two separate products, as opposed to mixed together.

It comes in a pouch with the iconic Emilio Pucci print, I am not really a great fan of this print, I don’t know why, looks a bit old fashioned to me – please don’t throw a stone at me :) – but I like that it comes in a pouch and I think it’s an absolute necessary item to keep your bronzer safe while traveling. You have to align the 3 magnets in order to snap it closed, it closes quite firmly but I would not carry it without the appropriate pouch to protect it.

I like how this kind of objects can look amazing and intriguing on the dresser, the outer case pays tribute to the paneling of a Riva yacht with an ebony-colored varnished wood.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quads and Joues Contraste blushes … USA vs The Rest of the World

Depending on where you buy your Chanel eyeshadow quads “Les 4 Ombres“, or blushes “Joues Contraste“, the texture and pigmentation will be different, there’s one “USA” version, and there’s another one for the rest of the world (Canada, Asia, Europe, …).

Chanel USA vs the Rest of the World

I have tried to find the reason why there is such a big difference in exactly the same products, so far without success. Here in Switzerland they aren’t even aware of a different version released specially for the USA… . But, I don’t give up easily and I will find out ! Some say that in Europe or Asia we tend to prefer a more sheer and subtle application, but every single Chanel make up lover I met till now, prefer the more pigmented USA releases. Even in Asia, Canada, Germany or anywhere else, when they know about this difference, they would rather pick the non-baked and more pigmented USA formula.
At some point I thought maybe the ingredients (regulations in the countries) could be the reason, but I don’t think so…

Some brands, like Dior for example, sometimes launch additional or completely different products depending on the countries, for example with their collection “Electric Tropics”, in the Diorskin Nude Glow, we had two bronzers in Europe but Dior launched a beautiful highlighter, in that same collection, exclusive to Asia : the First Light Nude Glow in 003.

But for Chanel, and for these Les 4 Ombres quads and the Joues Contraste blushes, the names are the same but the texture is completely different.
If you are interested in exclusive Asia releases or if you missed out on some Limited Edition collections, sometimes I buy my products at http://www.izzysbeautyshoppe.com, that’s were I got the Dior First Light in case you are interested.

Guerlain Sun in the City Summer 2012 – Terracotta Sun Shimmer blush

Guerlain’s Summer 2012 collection just made it to Switzerland this week, I believe this is almost one month after it was released in the USA. I often order my products from the USA as soon as they are available but since I did not know what Guerlain was capable of when it comes to liquid blushes I just waited…

When I saw them in person, I fell in love with the Sunny Pink immediately, a warm pink with tiny gold shimmer. They say this shade is more suitable for fair skin.

The lasting power of these liquid blushes is very good, you can blend them so that you have a very subtle color or you can build the color, either way you will still see the tiny sparkles. After using the pink blush for a few days… I went to get the other shade : Spicy Coral, this shade is an orange’ish’ coral on my skin, reminds me of Nars Taj Mahal, that I love and actually they are extremely close when swatched side by side.

What Guerlain says about these liquid blushes :

Looking for a tan that seems to glow from within, colour that appears lifted by a slightly flushed effect? This mother-of-pearl concentrate instantly illuminates the cheekbones, giving them incredibly sensual colour. For blondes, there is pink, the colour that naturally comes to their cheeks; while brunettes need coral to echo the spicy shades of their tan. An expert in trompe l’œil colour, with this easy-to-use product Guerlain has successfully imitated a natural blush to leave the complexion fresh and illuminate all types of tanned skin.

Warm and sensual summer notes that are totally irresistible

About the smell :

Warm and sensual summer notes that are totally irresistible

About the application :

TERRACOTTA BLUSH is applied in circular movements directly on golden skin or on top of Terracotta powder, lightly tapping with the fingertips.

The smell is nice, not heavy at all and I apply the blush with a brush and not my fingers, you can use your fingers since it blends very well but because of the pigmentation I don’t want to touch the product with my hands, I am afraid to touch my clothes by accident and stain them.

Do I look like I am glowing from within ? Yes, I think, I took a picture to show you the pink blush on my cheeks but you can’t really see the color, you can see the gold sparkles though.
